Where Does the Scotus Ruling Lead?

Miguel has an interesting and upsetting post up. He points out that the NFA is now legally very similar to Obamacare. Its a tax, not a ban, nor a restriction. He points out the people killed in Waco and Ruby Ridge were killed for tax evasion. Same goes for the various moonshiners who have butted heads with the ATF over their stills. Now Healthcare.

Still Daniel in Brookline sent me this article from Hot Air.

First, the government needs to issue a mandate that all households must own at least one firearm. We will need a federal agency to ensure that people aren’t just buying cheap BB guns or .22 pistols, even though that may be all they need or want. It has to be 9mm or above, with .44 magnums getting a one-time tax credit on their own. Let’s pick an agency known for its aptitude on firearms and home protection to issue required annual certifications each year, without which the government will have to levy hefty fines. Which agency would do the best job? Hmmmm … I know! How about TSA? With their track record of excellence, we should have no problems implementing this mandate.

Don’t want to own a gun? Hey, no worries. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts says citizens have the right to refuse to comply with mandates. The government will just seize some of your cash in fines, that’s all. Isn’t choice great? Those fines will go toward federal credits that will fund firearm purchases for the less well off, so that they can protect their homes as adequately as those who can afford guns on their own. Since they generally live in neighborhoods where police response is appreciably worse than their higher-earning fellow Americans, they need them more anyway. Besides — gun ownership is actually mentioned in the Constitution, unlike health care, which isn’t. Obviously, that means that the federal government should be funding gun ownership.

I guess the slippery slope goes both ways.

Further Lee Dorin mirrors what Borepatch said on the latest Squirrel Report

They SCOTUS didn’t make a ruling on the law, simply telling the people what the law was and let us decide for ourselves. This slippery slope can slide any way…or not at all. Its up to us.

These are interesting times….

“Gun Death” Sword

Again with the Samurai swords! And in the UK??? I thought they banned them there!

The man, 65, had the sword on display in his living room and tried to scare off the youths in his garden in Barking Road, East Ham.

But it is thought two of them got inside the house and in the confrontation the man was stabbed.

The victim is in a stable condition with multiple stab wounds following the incident at 01:30 BST on Saturday.

don’t use a sword! The Thugs will just take it away from you! Worst part?

Police said the sword has not been found and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

It is now a black market Wall-hanger sword! Chances are this blade is a cheap decorative POS, but in a nation that has all but banned guns, that’s all you need! Isn’t gun control grand! At least they have low “Gun Death”!

Golden Parachute

This is just great

One day after the House voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to provide documents relating to the Fast and Furious gunwalking program, White House spokesperson Jay Carney said the criminal prosecution of the contempt charges will not move forward.

“The prosecution will not take place in this circumstance,” Carney said during a press gaggle aboard Air Force One en route to Colorado. He said the president’s assertion of executive privilege over the related documents makes the matter moot.

The contempt charge does not address the controversial Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Fast and Furious operation itself, which allowed more than 2,000 weapons to fall into the hands of suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels. Instead, it concerns subpoenaed documents the Justice Department is withholding from Congress that cover a period after the operation ended.

I’m not really surprised that the White House is protecting Holder. I suspect the documents in question lead directly to the Oval Office. I don’t know much about what options congress has, but I hope they can get SOMETHING like a special prosecutor that answers to them rather than the people trying to cover their collective asses.

Of course by the time that happens the documents in question will be destroyed, and possibly replaced with forgeries.

Still I suspect there is a LOT going on with this.

“Gun Death” Train

“Progressives” love trains. people in Europe use them, they’re good for the environment (so long as they’re always running a max capacity) and they’re fiscally irresponsible. They are also dangerous!

According to Fort Worth Fire department spokesman Tim Hardeman, the male victim may have went onto the tracks just as the train approached.

“The individual was seen walking toward the tracks and appeared to lay down on the tracks and by that time the train was unable to stop and struck the individual,” Hardeman said. “He [the conductor] did hit his brakes but again by the time he realized that there was gonna be a problem it was too late for him to stop.”

There is indication that others used a shortcut in the area to cross the rails.

You know, the places with the most trains have the most “Train Death”! BAN TRAINS!

Larry Really is OK!

Awesome! For those not in the know Comedian Larry Miller recently took a nasty spill and suffered a head injury and had to put both his podcast and road show on indefinite hiatus. His crew has been keeping his podcast current by giving updates and posting encore performances.

Still head injuries are crazy things, and I wondered how good he REALLY was doing.

Well they have another encore up, but this time the intro is by Larry himself!

He still has it, and now I can rest easier! Get better soon Larry!
