Rundown: Guy holds a big shoot on his farm once a year where everybody brings their favorite guns from the pedestrian .22s to M2 Heavy Machine guns. This year sombody’s 7mm Arisaka WWII rifle gives up the ghost. Sounds like the rifle wasn’t in good shape to begin with, as in the report claimed it had a hairline crack in the receiver. Maybe this was rifle that shouldn’t have been shot, maybe it was dumb luck. Either way one man and one boy suffered minor injuries.
Joan is pushing this story as a scare tactic, and I think its hilarious at how warped her world view is that this story merited her posting. Now we talking about gun accidents here, as well as safety issues, as well as negligent behavior. I’m an honest man, Joan is NOT and honest person at all. She never talks about justifiable self defense, (when she DOES talk about a clean shooting she attempts to vilify the justified party), she doesn’t talk about safety course or safety measure, and certainly would never talk about fun recreational shooting.
But she talked about this. First up its a WWII bolt-action rifle in a caliber ballistically similar to most modern hunting calibers. Second is this statement that we all take for granted, but people who have never spend any time sport shooting might be surprised with:

Shoots like this are REALLY common, and serious injuries are extremely rare, so rare that they’re still talking about this horrible story from back in 2008, and this case was a very young boy who was allowed to shoot a micro-uzi which is an EXTREMELY difficult gun to shoot, even for grown men with extensive full-auto experience. This was a major error by the organizers of the group, not anything inherently unsafe about the shooting sports. The fact that this case is STILL being talked about, and despite it being a local story to me, its being talking about NATIONALLY because there aren’t any other similar events.
While the above is technically a story about two injuries at a machine gun shoot, its really a testament to the safety of the shooting sports.
Joan of course doesn’t see this at all. This is how rational she is.
In the end shooting machine guns is safer than waiving pom-poms!

Makes sense. But such negligence with a gun is worth discussing, but this, well this is nothing! No “Gun Death” no big deal!

So Today the weather was warm, sunny, with a gentle breeze! I was looking forward to getting out of work and going on a nice walk and take in the spring air.
By the time I was able to get out of work it dropped 10 degrees and started raining!

Of course the list doesn’t actually have any Claims the NRA has actually made. If you look at them in a fun-house mirror maybe they resemble some factual claims, but really its a field of Straw Men.
Oh also what it doesn’t contain are any facts, references, or citations.
Its nothing but a pile of “Proof by Assertion” Fallacies.
And they have this adorable little remark.

If you hear ANYTHING about guns that seems appealing, reasonable or factual IT IS MOST LIKELY NOT TRUE.

Yeah except it doesn’t. And of course they’re such sticklers for facts and truth that they’re forced to pay off bloggers when blatant falsehoods appear on their site, I believe other citations by Thirdpower and other activists have been ignored.

Not only does carrying your gun mean you have a gun when you need one, but it also means your gun is always under your direct control.
A 3-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself with a gun he found in a car as a family made a stop early Wednesday at a gas station in Washington state.
Police Officer Naveed Benjamin says the man put his pistol under the seat and got out to pump gas while the boy’s mother went inside the gas station in Tacoma. They left her son and the man’s 4- or 5-year-old daughter in the car.
Benjamin says the boy climbed out of his child seat, found the gun and accidentally shot himself. He was declared dead at a hospital.
I have no idea if the kid has escaped his seat before, but assuming the best, this was his first (and saddly last) escape.
Still why chance it? CARRY your gun. Of course here’s also a good argument against gun free zones. There are places that MANDATE you disarm before entering. One could argue that he should have unloaded his gun. That is a ROYAL bitch to do in the cramped confines of a car and just BEGGING for a negligent discharge. Also I’m concerned that somebody might see me stowing my gun and think: “Well I wasn’t planning on stealing a car today, but man that’s mighty tempting!”
My heart goes out to the family, and my heart goes out to all the families that hopefully we can save from this!

Two Columbine High School students in suburban Denver suffered injuries when they were attacked by another student with a hammer.
Jefferson County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley says the attack occurred Monday morning at school.
The 14-year-old suspect was arrested and faces assault charges. Kelley says the condition of the two students was not known.
When it was gunfire and explosives, the antis ignored the explosives and focused on the guns (and ignore the straw buyer who bought them). Hammer? What story?

LOL. This is all about the stupid new Double-1911 making the chatter around the blogs recently. I love me some 1911s, but I must say even if this gun isn’t considered a Machine Gun by NFA standards, I see no real point to it. The gun is a monster brick and I can’t see any advantage it offers over say an STI 2011 (and I suspect the STIs will be easier to aquire, cheaper, and of vastly better build quality and reliability)
Its a screaming answer to a question nobody asked, and in a world where double-stack, double-action, polymer framed guns are king, and advanced JHP ammo has really rendered the .45 vs 9x19mm argument moot (maybe in WWII Europe when German troops with 9×19 Walthers, Mausers, and Lugers went up against M1911A1s, both loaded with Ball ammo, but in civilian or law enforcement guns loaded with modern JHP ammo, maybe loaded to +P pressures, the 9×19 has the edge because of capacity alone.
Still the big thing that got me chuckling is this moron has obviously never read anything about firearms. If they HAD they might be aware of a thing called a “Howdah Pistol”, a heavy double-barrel percussion or Flintlock pistol designed for two quick shots against big scary cats that are capable of plucking men out of their Howdah (that basket for passengers on the backs of Elephants….AKA the SUVs of the per-industrial age). They were in fact double (or in some cases triple or quadruple) barreled shotguns the size of a very large handgun.
What’s even neater is given that they’re black powder muzzle-loading firearms they are not considered a “Firearm” by BATFE standards. So if you were to find a shop that sells them you can simply have them mail it to your door!
