How It Should Be!

Have a read of this story.

A Cleveland restaurant owner shot and killed a gun-waving customer Thursday just hours after Democratic hopefuls for Cuyahoga County prosecutor had gathered in an adjacent party room for a candidate forum….Police say Abrams, who had a lengthy criminal record for guns, theft, drugs and violence, became upset and argued with employees after ordering food. He left and returned about 15 minutes later armed with two loaded handguns.

Abrams threatened employees, including Nelson, who shot Abrams in the chest with a shotgun, police said.

So we have a violent criminal who is barred from having guns, not to mention deadly threat, assault, and lord knows whatever other mayhem he would have done if not stopped.

Meanwhile, Ohio being moderately friendly to guns and gun owners, the store owner was able to keep a firearm for just this occasion, and used it, saving who knows how many lives.

Gun control laws only disarm the law abiding. Allowing liberal gun laws means the good guys can shoot back!

Carry your guns, People, because you ARE the good guys!

More From Ogden

I keep following this story, and it seems every time I check the wires, I’m rewarded, and every turn it looks more and more like it was a jackboot raid rather than a lawful arrest.

First Reason is dropping the hammer on the SWAT team. Go read the whole thing as they provide a LOT of background on how the local door-kickers operate, including linking this video.

That murder was ruled “Justified”. Remember you’re allowed to defend yourself when a criminal kicks down your door…but if the person kicking down your door is Police, then they’ll kill you!

And more from the parents. It does appear he had the standard depression and anxiety, and was choosing to treat it with marijuana rather than drugs. I’ll just say as I type this I’m currently treating my ADD with Caffeine rather than deal with the cost and side-effects of prescription medication for what is essentially similar results…and a better taste! But overall it seems that besides smoking, and growing an illegal weed, he was an upstanding citizen.

This is VERY telling tho:

The Stewarts have not been allowed to see their son at an undisclosed hospital. And they don’t know what happened when the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force entered the house with a search warrant.

Michael Stewart said his son kept a handgun for protection. But he said that his son’s shotgun had been in his parents’ possession for years and he didn’t have any automatic weapons.

Michael and Sonja Stewart say they can’t understand why the strike force would execute a search warrant the way that it did, knocking down the door and rushing into the residence.

If Matthew Stewart was sleeping or listening to music in his back room, there is a good chance they would not have heard police announce their arrival.

“If they had done some research, why not arrest him at Walmart?” Michael Stewart said.

“I’m hoping the citizens of this state can look at what’s happened here and rethink the drug war,” he added. “Are we losing the drug war?”

This is looking more and more like the wanton abuse of Police power. If they didn’t feel like they might encounter armed resistance, why bring a SWAT team? If they felt the suspect was armed and dangerous…but was gainfully employed in the community, why not arrest him at work or while he drove on public streets? And why again for somebody who was growing a few pot plants?

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

“Gun Death” Pepper Spray

First Reported by Uncle but sent to me by Wallphone as a “Gun Death”.

“This photo is a picture of a man who is strapped to a chair naked inside a jail for hours with a hood over his face. That evokes thoughts of being tortured,” says Cleveland-based lawyer Nick DiCello who represents the Christie family.

The photo, which was obtained by FOX 13’s investigative unit, was taken in the final hours of Christie’s life.

The District 21 Medical Examiner ruled his death was a homicide because he had been restrained and sprayed with pepper sprayed by law enforcement officers. But to this day, nobody has ever been charged with a crime, and the Lee County State Attorney cleared the sheriff’s office of any wrong doing.

The man had some mental illness and was off his meds. He was arrested for drunken and disorderly contact, which makes perfect sense. What doesn’t make any sense is why he was restrained naked in a chair and sprayed with pepper spray until he died, or why nobody has been fired or even disciplined for this.

Brutal, but not a “Gun Death”, as if that matters…. Hopefully the family will find some semblance of justice.

Well Decided since there was no set name, and being a crass asshole, I declared them all “Cock Drives”, and it lead me here.

Gun Control Sucess Story

I’ll link directly to the blog of Joyce Shill “Ohh Shoot”

20-year-old Jason Denison and 20-year-old Jonathan Flores, both of New Bedford, Massachusetts, have been charged with murder in connection with a gun battle last month that fatally injured an innocent bystander….Denison has also been charged with armed assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and obstruction of justice. Flores has also been charged with possession of a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearms and possession of a firearm without an FID card.

Why somebody who campaigns for tougher gun laws would link a post like this shows how short-sighted and desperate they are. Two violent criminals illegally owning guns, at an illegal street-fight, likely affiliated with the many street gangs of New Bedford, who are carrying their illegal guns illegally, in a state that does not allow the transfer of a firearm without a background check, and are willing to murder each other aren’t going to balk at yet another stupid rule.

This is the world they want for us, they should be PROUD, not upset!

Point Blank

There’s been a little bit of banter in this post about Point Blank Range.

I was unaware that point-blank may or may-not have a forensics definition of “Shot at Very Close Range”, and the linked wikipedia page cites a dead link so I can’t confirm that. Generally when a non-gunnie says the term that’s what they mean, and to some extent they are correct, but read this definition:

Point blank range is the distance a marksman can reasonably expect to fire a specific weapon hitting a specific target without further adjustment of the fixed sights.

Now on handguns (which is the gun used in the Kroger shooting) this is more-or-less true. The factory fixed sights on most handguns are set for a very close zero, of about 10-15 feet. That means you line up the sights at this range and the bullet trajectory won’t wander too far from that zero in that range or a bit beyond it. The furthest I’ve ever shot pistols with any expected results is about 25 yards, and with that you need very little hold-over, and generally no matter what my sights are set on, my skill with a pistol is not suited for those ranges.

Also as a defensive shooting I’d find it VERY hard to justify a lethal force scenario much beyond those ranges without getting into a bit of fantasy. Generally we’re talking contact to maybe 30 feet, which on most pistol sights “Point Blank”.

On a rifle things can get interesting. First with a modern rifle like an AR-15 you have a little something called “Sight Offset“. Rifles that have a stock that his more-or-less inline with the bore to control recoil and muzzle climb need to elevate their sights a few inches above the bore-line of the rifle. The AR-15 is known for having high iron sights as you can see in the link. On the linked rifle it means at very close range the rifle will print about 2 inches low because the sights are about an inch high above the rifle.

Since the bullet travels in an arc it actually RISES to the line of sight before dropping. The faster the bullet travels the flatter this arc will appear if fired on a level plane.

When zeroing my FAL for the first time I did a little research and found that if I set the zero on the gun at 100 yards using 150 grain NATO 7.62x51mm Ammo the rounds won’t stray much beyond +/- 2” from muzzle out to about 125 yards, at which point I’d need to either adjust my hold higher on the target, or crank the sight ladder up a notch, which is conveniently set in 100 meter graduations. Since I’m not doing any match target shooting with this gun, and it is generally a defensive arm, and possibly a deer rifle for Maine “Brush Hunting”, that is VERY reasonable.

This means that taking a shot with the rifle at a target inside of 125 yards I would indeed be shooting “point Blank”.

But what if I click the rear sight up one mark? Suddenly my zero will be moved to approximately 200 yards (I say approximately as I haven’t done any of the math, nor marked a page at these ranges to verify) And things start looking a LOT different.

A shot held dead-on at 100 yards will be about 2″ HIGH and suddenly “Point Blank” is at about 35 yards, and 200 yards.

Just an interesting term to think about, and also its always interesting to study bullet ballistics because most people assume when they level their sights it means the bore of their gun is also level, but in fact its canted slightly up so the bullet will rise and then fall to the point of aim.

More on the Utah SWAT Shooting

Just found this interesting.

Police continued Friday to seek answers as to why Stewart opened fire when a total of 12 officers arrived to serve a “knock-and-announce” search warrant on a red brick home at 3268 Jackson Ave. Police say no one answered, but the officers came under heavy fire when they entered the home. Police have not released details about the firearms Stewart had, but the suspect reportedly was armed with multiple guns.

According to this it was a standard warrant, not a no-knock. Also this was a bit fishy:

Stewart, 37, the oldest of five children, served as an Army multichannel transmission systems operator in North Carolina and Germany for four years. He was awarded the Army Achievement Medal and a National Defense Service Medal before leaving the military in 1998, an Army spokesman said. He worked as a security guard for the IRS before getting a warehouse job on the graveyard shift at Walmart in Riverdale three years ago. A check of Utah court records shows only a traffic ticket for driving without insurance.

However, his father, Michael Stewart, said his son, who has “issues,” may have been growing marijuana to “self-medicate.” The father said they are estranged, but maintained that Matthew Stewart was not a drug dealer and may have been surprised by police.

According to this he was not a combat vet, and served honerably, also had no criminal background. Also no claims he was dealing drugs, or using anything worse than Marijuana. As for “self medicating” I’ve heard of people using weed for everything from Anxiety to sleep troubles. I do know that a dozen men with automatic weapons in ninja-garb would make me a might bit anxious.

Could it have been he just didn’t want to open the door, or was taking a nap? There is nothing about this that smells right.

Also, no disrespect for the fallen officer, but this story is disgusting.

Ogden officer Jared Francom died early Thursday at a hospital, hours after he and a team of bulletproof vest-wearing officers rapped on the door of a small, red-brick Ogden house to serve a search warrant in a drug investigation.

When no one responded, the officers burst inside only to meet a hail of gunfire, authorities say.

“Jared died doing what he loved,” brother Travis Francom said. “He worried at times, for his safety. I don’t think so much for himself, but for his family, his two little girls and his wife … but I don’t think he was ever afraid.”

So you’re saying he loved kicking down the doors of stoners? This is either a sad story of the Police State, or a Newspaper trumping up a bad story to glorify a man who died doing something VERY stupid, and very bad.

Spearhead

This story is bouncing around from the antis.

A 24-year-old man was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after accidentally shooting himself while on the Weber State University campus.

WSU spokesman John Kowalewski said the man, who is believed to be a student enrolled at the university, was injured around 6:30 p.m. when his handgun accidentally discharged…..The man was taken to an Ogden hospital for treatment of his wound, which was not believed to be life-threatening, Kowalewski said.

The antis will say that this is reason why no college students (or anybody in general) should carry a gun. I’ll just point that this is a wakeup call about respect for your carry gun.

USE A HOLSTER! and not just any holster, but a good holster that is designed for the gun you’re carrying, and the method you’re carrying it in.

STOP TOUCHING IT!, the more you handle a firearm, the greater the risk of a negligent discharge. Put on your holster in the morning, and do NOT touch the gun unless you are disarming for the day, or are engaging a deadly threat.

PERIOD! Don’t Show your gun to friends by manipulating the gun (you may manipulate the holster if you are using a good one), don’t adjust the gun (you may adjust the holster, as per the first corollary), and don’t fiddle with, or play with your gun!

There is no way this happened without one or both of these rules being ignored.

Don’t be that guy!

Carry your guns, and be safe about it!

Scott Brown: Just Go Away!

I officially hate Scott Brown. He campaigned as a conservative and used the support of the national Tea Party chapters. His big campaign issue was he would vote against Obamacare. Recently he told me he “Supports The Second Amendment” by being anti-gun and anti-freedom, and now this.

U.S. Sen. Scott Brown said he supports President Barack Obama’s decision to name Richard Cordray as the nation’s chief consumer watchdog despite the objections of Brown’s fellow Senate Republicans.

I’ll be voting against Senator Brown in November. He has broken every promise, and has shown himself to be a despicable human being.

When I was talking about this with Jay, Jay noted that for me to vote AGAINST Senator Brown I’d need to vote for the moonbat “Progressive” who’s running against him.

I asked Jay to name a single vote that Scott Brown made that Leftist Puppet Martha Coakley wouldn’t have made?

I extend that same question to my Massachusetts readers who will be voting in November.

Also I’ll point out that with Scott Brown in office it will require a successful Massachusetts GOP Nomination challenge to get anything but a leftist scumbag in that seat (The current occupant included), and I don’t see this happening. Putting a green, idiot “Progressive” in the seat is the ONLY move that will keep Scott Brown to be sitting in that seat in his turncoat “Progressive” 70s, as a better-looking Barny Frank, or John Kerry.

Meanwhile Elisabeth Warren is a CarpetBagger from Oklahoma, a College Professor, and a general Leftist Useful Idiot. Her first term as a Senator won’t be any different than Scott Brown as Brown will ALWAYS vote with the Marxists, and hopefully her first term will be her last. Meanwhile if Scott Brown gets re-elected, the chances of him never being successfully opposed again is a very strong possibility. Remember, the man who held that seat before him was a murderer, a drunk, and a rapist.

I look forward to seeing your concession speech, Senator Brown, you’re a disgrace to the Senate, To the Uniform you wear for the US Army, and to the Country.
