“Gun Death” Washing Machine

Really what’s wrong with people?

A man in France has been charged with murdering his son by shoving him in a washing machine and turning it on, AFP reports….Maud, Bastien’s five-year-old sister, told Fidelio, the husband of a neighbor, that it wasn’t the first time that her father put the little boy in the machine. Sometimes, he locked his son inside for two hours to punish him.

What, do we want to add background checks before somebody buying a Washing Machine? How about an explicit warning label printed on the door of the unit with the images of drowned babies?

Obviously more government will fix this? Or so goes the mentality of those who use the metric of “Gun Death”. They need to be exposed as the fools that they are!

NICE Rifle!

I’m a huge fan of 7.62x51mm/.308 Winchester as a defensive, hunting, and all-round useful cartridge. Put it in a handy battle-rifle and it can easily be deployed for all sorts of uses.
My Go-to Rife happens to be a mish-mash of FAL parts.

Looks like Bluesun went another great route with an AR-10.

Government Knows Best

An official with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who was charged with two counts of child molestation and bestiality involving a 6-year-old has returned to work with the agency….Lindsey, 44, was arrested in October along with her boyfriend Thomas Westerman. Lindsey was being held in the DeKalb County Jail on a $25,000 bond, while Westerman was released on a $16,000 bond.

It is unknown if Westerman, also a CDC employee and charged with two counts of child molestation, has returned to work as a resource management specialist with the agency, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

No word if these creeps will be workers or a case study at the CDC!

A man was found fatally stabbed outside in the Warehouse District of Minneapolis early Monday, and police are looking for who is responsible.

The attack occurred about 3:30 a.m. on 2nd Avenue N. near Washington Avenue, said Sgt. John Sullivan.

A dead man, but not a “Gun Death”. Why does anybody use the term “Gun Death”?

If you WERE to have a Mass Carry Permit

In discussing HR822 Countertop raises this interesting question.

What about Mass and Cali legal guns? If I visit Cali carrying my gun that’s not on their approved list, am I in violation of local law?

Jack points Countertop in the direction of The Story of Eleanor where I discuss the bullshit required to get an off-roster handgun in Massachusetts.

But if HR-822 becomes law then all you pistol packers will have Valid Massachusetts carry permits, and you might want to hang out at the Boston Aquarium with me, because fish are cool!

OK so first up the “Handgun Safety Roster” is NOT a “Gun Control” law, but a “Consumer Safety” law. It is not illegal to own, posses, carry, or use Off-Roster handguns in Massachusetts. The law ONLY applies to FFLs SELLING “Safe” guns to private citizens. The hard part of getting my PM45 was legally BUYING the gun, not actually GETTING the gun. Jay has a great story of getting a T&E S&W Bodyguard 38, only for his FFL to point out the gun wasn’t yet approved (BTW in the latest Roster update they are now legal for Massachusetts sale). The gun arrived at the FFL for transfer, and Jay was even allowed to handle it and take pictures, but the FFL couldn’t make the transfer.

Now IF the FFL had given the AG the finger, or assumed since S&W is a Massachusetts company and it was a T&E gun that it was OK for transfer, Jay could walk out of the store and the ONLY legal repercussions is the FFL could be fined for selling an off-roster gun.

Oh BTW fun-fact, if I decided I didn’t want to keep my PM45 anymore and decided to sell it at a local gun shop. They could BUY the gun, but could only SELL the gun to other FFLs (preferably out-of-state) or to a Law Enforcement officer, who of course exempt from such laws. Of course if I wanted to sell this gun I could easily sell it to another Massachusetts resident.

How the laws are currently written, if handguns were treated like long-guns when it came to interstate commerce I could simply cross over to New Hampshire and buy guns there and walk back and it would be 100% legal.

So when it comes to non Massachusetts residents legally carrying with a permit, you can carry ANY gun you want, barring that it does not have a post ’94 magazine holding more than 10 rounds, or that it was considered an “Assault Weapon” under the ’94 federal law.

Hopefully this law will pass so this isn’t just conjecture.

Punish The Criminal Not the Object

Look, the problem isn’t selling a gun to a stranger any more than selling a set of knives at a yard sale is. You have no clue that the nice lady offering you 76¢ for the old set of Wüsthof is planning on using them to slice & dice her rich husband, do you? Does the guy manning the convenience store have any clue if the young man filling up a gasoline can is going to use the liquid to fuel his lawnmower or to pour over the family he has tied up in his trailer? I cannot possibly find the time to inspect the minute details of everyone’s lives who I wish to do business with, nor is it healthy for any society to automatically assume every person they interact with is guilty of some sort of crime until we can prove their innocence.

When I was in college there were all sorts of parties where alcohol was served and not everybody was 21 (Another fool law, you’re either an adult or you’re not! But again “Anti-Freedom” not “Anti-Gun”) but hey the guy buying the booze showed his ID that showed HE was 21 buying 10 cases of Milwaukee’s Best with loose bills. (And BTW at least in the parties I attended the worst that happened were some HORRIBLE hangovers)

They didn’t background check me when I bought my new camera to verify I wasn’t a child pornographer.

Blah blah blah. Of course in Massachusetts all “private” sales must be logged with the state and both participants must present a valid FID/LTC, and oddly enough the criminal still get guns.

The antis say its because Maine and New Hampshire and Vermont aren’t anti-rights dumps and the guns come from the lax laws there….except there are no numbers to support that.

No matter what you feel ethically, or morally, the laws the Antis propose don’t work at all, so if we were to impose them everywhere else…or scrap them here and everywhere that bans ACTUAL private sale, the results would be the same.

Now if we actually PUNISHED people who not only abused guns, but abused VIOLENCE, maybe THEN we’d see some results. But that’s not the point, as Sebastian Says:

As I’ve said, there are a lot of solutions one could think of that would alleviate the concerns regarding background checks, but the other side doesn’t want to speak about them. Why? Because the true purpose of what they propose has nothing to do with background checks, and never has. They are more interested in tightening the de facto registration scheme that the 4473 represents than they are in expanding background checks.

And remember registration leads to Confiscation…with “Fair Market Value” of course!

What Does it Mean, Then?

Gun dealers flooded the FBI with background check requests for prospective buyers last Friday, smashing the single-day, all-time high by 32%, according to bureau records….The actual number of firearms sold last Friday is likely higher because multiple firearms can be included in a transaction by a single buyer. And the FBI does not track actual gun sales.

Awesome. But even more awesome was they got an opposition statement from Dennis Hennigan:

Dennis Henigan, acting president of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, said he was “skeptical” of the Black Friday gun surge.

“I think there may be no real signifcance at all,” Henigan said. “It’s possible that gun companies are just catching on to creating a Black Friday frenzy for themselves.”

Well with most of his lies, there is a grain of truth. Its no coincidence that this surge in NICS checks was on Black Friday. There were lots of good deals to be had, and most people had the day off work, why not buy a new gun?

But what exactly are you “Skeptical” of? Are you saying people were wandering into gun shops and filling out Form 4473s and then walking out without a gun? Are you saying FFLs are crank-calling NICS with fake 4473? Are you claiming that most of those people were denied their transfer because they were criminals? (BTW if that was true you’d think the FBI would mention it).

The bottom line was a HUGE number of people had a NICS check on Black Friday, and with each NICS at LEAST one firearm (tho with a day like that I’d imagine the number of multiple transfers is also up) was released into civilian hands.

As far as sales and deals on Black Friday, let’s look at the significance of that: This Christmas (December 25th…Which is the last Sunday in 2011) a bunch of people will receive as gifts their first firearm. Because it was the END of the year rather than the BEGINNING or MIDDLE how does this change the number of new gun owners in America?

Oh BTW one of the common arguments to the insignificance of NICS numbers is that that these are not “new gun owners” just gun owners buying MORE guns. Well that’s partly true, I’m always buying new guns, and just because I add another Mosin Nagant to my collection doesn’t really mean anything to the position of Anti-Rights people.

Still look concealed carry course. Look at club memberships. Look at the new faces at clubs. Hang out in a gun shop and listen to the shop keeper answering newbie questions. In Massachusetts where you need a permit to BUY a gun, look at those numbers.

One other anecdote. Look at your own collection. I used to buy a TON of guns every year. Why? Well I started out with NOTHING. I wanted to fill niches I didn’t have. Home Defense Gun, Carry gun, Backup Gun, Defensive Rifle, Long-Range rifle, Collector guns, .22 trainers. After a while you see a new gun on the market that doesn’t do anything better than guns you already have in the safe, you decide to just buy more ammo, take classes and log time on the range.

Nope, there are a lot of people joining the cause…and abandoning your cause, Dennis.
