When Will They Learn?

Power’s out again

Really we can’t keep meeting this way. At least the town power company is fast.

BTW, this time I was facing the transformer when this little guy crossed it, and the flash was really bright…and that was through a closed window shade!

Well, he won’t do that anymore!

“Gun Death” Kickboxer

Maybe we need to ban Kickboxing and Martial Arts
.

It seems that Rasul Mirzaev now has a follower. A kickboxer from Russia’s Saratov killed a passer by at one blow.

Alexander Khromov, 20, a kickboxer, was going home from a nightclub with his girlfriend and several friends. The young man was trying to demonstrate his macho qualities in front of the young lady, so he was picking on casual passers by, The Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper wrote.

BTW this is in Russia where there is VERY strong gun control…and also very high “Gun Death” (BTW, Russia is one of those nations that the Anti-Rights people claim is “undeveloped”), still all it took was a fist.

“Gun Death” Domestic Dispute

There are people who use “Gun Death” who claim that guns make domestic violence worse.

A domestic dispute where a woman was stabbed and nearly murdered.

We all have knives, but so few of us have done anything remotely like this.

Its not the guns, its the criminals.

Tour De Hospitale

Gonna be a long meandering post, so bear with me…or skip it.

So back in 2003 I was living in Portland and working wherever the boats were throwing their lines. I had just gotten back from Virginia and getting the shit kicked out of me, and not paid much at all with various hurricanes.

As was standard every time I cross the Mason Dixon line I get a nasty cold. This one was the WORST, I was essentially on my back for almost two weeks with common-cold symptoms turned up to 11. When the cold started to break my right arm and throat were achy. I assumed the pain was from coughing and excessive video game play….but it kept getting worse, so my Mom brought me to a clinic.

The clinic looked at me like I was crazy (my arm hurt, but it wasn’t tender anywhere, and there was no weakness) until they hooked me up to an EKG…then they called an ambulance to take me to the hospital because I might be having a heart-attack.

I was 24, no family history, non-smoker and I don’t do cocaine. They believed all of that but the cocaine part. Seriously, they asked it a million times, because coke is the only thing that will make a 24 year old with no family history, in good health have a heart attack.

Turned out I had a bout with Pericarditis, I spend the night hooked up to a heart monitor getting my blood drawn, and then they turned me lose with an advisory to take ibuprofen for the pain, and don’t strain myself.

I told you that story so I could tell you this one.

Last night I was headed up to bed when my left shoulder started to ache. I lifted weights the night before, and had been slacking so it could have been some soreness.

But the pain was VERY general, and more of a dull ache, and it seemed to wander into my upper arm and neck.

It reminded me of the bout with Pericarditis, so I talked to Mrs. Weer’d, and my Mom (who’s an RN), and at this stage I was getting myself a bit worked up guessing and second guessing.

So we decided to take a little trip to ye local small hospital…which is awesome by the way as the lines were short and the staff was awesome.

Fast forward 3 hours, my EKG was normal, blood work was normal, and the Ibuprofen I took before bed were working and there was no discomfort.

I was discharged with a referral to a cardiologist just-in-case.

Frankly I think I probably pulled something, but thought it felt like dissociated chest pain…which if read anything about it doesn’t feel like anything in particular, and can feel like anything.

So yeah, we got to bed at a little after 0200 this morning.

Alarm rang at 0600 so we could go into Boston to go to Mass General Hospital to talk to Mrs. Weer’ds new Epileptologist who is awesome (and because I’m a racist I think because he’s Indian that also makes him a better doctor…Her Surgeon was Arab of some sort…Brown makes good Doctors, yo!) and thinks are looking good for going forward with Weer’d-lings! Yayyyy!

So yeah that’s been my Friday so far, how’s yours?

“Gun Death” Guns And Cars

We can never compare guns and cars.

A 68-year-old woman died Thursday night when she was intentionally hit by a car driven by her son as she was being loaded into an ambulance, police said.

How fucked up is that story?

Of course you can’t compare guns and cars because cars aren’t “designed to kill”.

Well: A) What’s wrong with having an instrument that can kill? Justifiable self defense is a legal and acceptable reason to kill another person. If such a situation happens where its kill or be-killed, I’d like to have an item that will do that job well, rather than poorly.

B) Most guns in this country don’t kill or hurt ANYTHING, and cars cause LOTS more UNINTENTIONAL deaths than guns, and unintentional “Gun Death” is almost nothing.

But as this story shows, being “Designed to Kill” doesn’t make it any less effective a murder weapon.

Underpants on the Outside

I had heard about him before when some loser on Livejournal was praising “Angle Grinder Man” who was some asshole who cut boots off cars that had outstanding parking tickets. Then Phoenix Jones walked in on a Nerdist recording (I forget which one), and his bravado mixed with the lackluster confirmed actions. (He claims to be shot and stabbed and such, but there is zero record of such things….and he claims to have stopped a bunch of crimes, with no records. There are a few “Crimes” he has “Stopped” but really I found his heroics to not even approach his swagger, and I find his behavior to be stupid, dangerous, and border on vigilantism.

Well Tam reports that Phoenix Jones got unmasked and arrested allegedly for spraying down some innocent people with OC.

This is why Anti gun people WANT to portray us as Vigilantes, and why our most vocal people always advise we don’t pull our guns unless somebody we know well is in immediate danger.

Phoenix Jones is an idiot who walks around Washington looking for trouble…he found it. This is why I don’t go looking around for trouble…I just carry a gun because trouble just might find me despite my best interests.

**UPDATE** Thought I’d post the video here:

Phoenix Jones Stops Assault from Ryan McNamee on Vimeo.

From what I can see it looks like there MAY have been a fight, and then a bunch of bitchy girls hitting the dorks (possibly because they go a whiff of that bear spray) And then we see a ton of de-escalation of violent behavior likely spurred on buy a man with OC spray playing super hero. Looks like the people Phoenix was “breaking up” were likely drunk, and not up-standing. But the whole bit with the cars running them down, and rocks being thrown was all because he didn’t stand back and let the cops handle it. And really how bad would that fight have been if he just watched from a distance?

Don’t be that guy, people!

Who Knows Kettlebells?

So a co-worker just stopped by my desk telling me the joys of Kettlebells

Just so happened I had recent seen this video after reading up on Lynn Thompson

Say what you will about Lynn and the odd way everybody seems to want to tell all who will hear about how strong and Fast Lynn is, they do look interesting and a neat way to add muscle and fight fat.

So anybody use them? What would be a good set to buy where I won’t kill myself on the price, but not get shit equipment, and any books or DVDs on how to put the hurtin’ on my fat ass whilst not damaging my house and back?

More Occupy Boston Irony

They’re getting ready for the Cold

The first guy has it right, good sleeping bag, good clothes, and a propane heater can make camping very comfortable. I know people who camp in the dead of winter and their hardest task is finding a spot to make a fire and pitch a tent where the snow won’t melt away from under them.

That being said where’s this equipment going to come from. North Face? EMS? LL Bean? REI? BTW who makes those tents they have? This smacks of the irony of people flying Chinese-made American Flags on 9-11.

I wish somebody had been smart enough to get professional film crews in here, because this appears to have all the makings of those “Let’s put a bunch of city idiots outside in the woods and watch them hurt themselves” reality programming.

Oh I found that video looking for this story.

The “Greenway Mobile Food Fest” set for Saturday has been canceled and won’t be held until the spring, the conservancy announced today.

“Saturday’s event was to include 12 mobile food vendors, many of them in large trucks. It was to take place on Dewey Square, the only parcel large enough to accommodate this type of gathering,” the conservancy said today in a release.

I’m not familiar with this food festival, but if you look at my waistline you might figure out that I think food festivals are awesome and have attended a few.

You know who you see at food festivals? Red Lobster? Olive Garden? McDonalds? Pizza Hut? KFC?

No, you see the small local restaurants, and the owner-operated chains getting out to show off their food. You know, like the EXACT opposite of big corporations!

I still think these guys as a movement are Marxists…but they’re starting to do work that looks like Anarchists. Thankfully they aren’t doing any harm that won’t clean up…well except for the harm to the Democrats that seem so enamored with them.

Keep it up you stinky hippies!
