Quote of the Day: Waldo

From my Buddy Waldo on guns with extraneous safeties.

I guess what I’m trying to say is if someone wants a gun, but doesn’t trust themselves with it unless it’s got three different safeties to disengage before a DA shot, than maybe they should hire a handler or something to keep them from drowning in their soup, or walking through glass doors, or some shit. My frustration with how we so readily accommodate the incompetent

Any gun that is capable of sending a round down range, is capable of sending a round some place regrettable. I complain about the new crop of Ruger pistols having unnecessary safeties. Still no matter how many stupid safeties are on a gun, if you don’t follow the 4 rules, you will eventually have something regrettable happen. Meanwhile there are so many expert shooters who use Glocks for self defense, work, and competition and have had NO problems because if you follow the 4 rules you’ll NEVER have anything regrettable.

The safety is between your ears, and nowhere else.

Oh also what’s Ironic is Waldo and I both own and carry 1911s that have a thumb safety, grip safety, and a firing pin block. I dunno if he feels the need to justify his love for the 1911….but I point out that the 1911 is a proven platform, so as excessive the safeties are, they work as advertised, so let’s not get silly! 😀

“Gun Death” Hidden Pregnancy

Stuff I will just never get:

A Tennessee woman secretly gave birth to twin boys in a toilet in the home she shares with her parents and then smothered the infants and hid their bodies in a bedroom laundry basket, police said Friday.

I’ve heard of severely overweight women concealing a pregnancy, but I don’t see her as one of those, so did the folks know she was pregnant?

Also what is up with somebody carrying a baby to term and then killing it.

Of course no “Gun Death”, but I’ll note that if she instead had gone to planned parenthood a few months earlier this wouldn’t be considered a death at all. Does that make sense to you?

OK, Worth a Listen

Saw last night that Adam Carolla put up a podcast interviewing the revolting Michael Moore. I immediatly thought of this Tom Green Abortion from Nerdist, but knowing that I can always delete it if it goes off the rails, I thought I’d give it a shot. Before we get going, it was good. Of course when Mike got speaking either I knew he was lying, or a suspected he was lying. He’s a pathological liar (BTW there are a ton of great documentaries about Mr. Moore and his total lack of ethics and honesty, also I recommend this book by the great Dave Hardy…and it might be fun if you think that $12 for an awesome book is doable to click through Adam Carolla’s Amazon banner, just for irony), but he seemed to know Carolla well enough to keep from stuffing his fat foot to far in his mouth.

Still it was overall an interesting and funny show. Still if you don’t listen to podcasts, or just aren’t interested, the big part I wanted to tell everybody about was what Adam put up on his youtube channel:

This whole clip proceeds a talk about United Flight 93 where the passengers resisted the terrorists. Mike even says that if “All the terrorists had guns they’d still be overwhelmed by the passengers if they all fought back” (paraphrased quote)…I’ll note that Mike is 100% right there, just look at the Tuscon Arizona Shooting, people didn’t comply and they fought back, even unarmed, and stopped the attack.

Irony reaches critical mass with that video clip, where Moore, a champion for victim disarmament points out that bare-handed isn’t the way to go into a fight, and talks about carrying improvised weapons on a plane.

Now Moore is a disgustingly obese and out-of-shape guy, but a lot of fat guys were big dudes who let their waists go (and it seems that big burly guys don’t seem to have the metabolism through life of the pipe-cleaner dudes), but Moore of course was a scrawny kid who packed on a pile of dead weight, likely through self loathing (one thing Mr. Moore and I agree on, we both loathe Michael Moore), just look at the muscle tone on his arms as he lifts them up to feign a garrote. This is the anti-gun Kung-fu Panda X100, do you think Moore could muster the speed and strength to use either of his improvised weapons with any affect?

I suspect, and why he is talking about it, he expects some all-American line-backer to take his advice and come to his rescue. If an attack like this happens again, I hope he’s right, because besides Moore there will likely be people on the plane worth saving.

Kinda interesting when Antis have to comfort themselves with self-defense, to justify wanting to ban guns.

And then they call me paranoid for wearing a .45.

“Sniper Rifles Capable of Taking Down a Commertial Jet”

We’ve all seen and heard the Propaganda:

.50 Caliber Sniper Rifles capable of taking down a commercial jet. We call bullshit, the antis say we lie. Well The Duck links this interesting article.

The NYPD began fitting police helicopters with heavy machine guns to shoot down terrorist airplanes about five years ago, after intelligence surfaced that al-Qaida was considering the use of crop dusters and other small craft for attacks, a senior city law enforcement official said Monday.

But while police officers have been trained to use helicopter-mounted .50-caliber machine guns against light planes, there was no intention to take down commercial passenger jets with such weaponry, said the official, who asked not to be identified.

Now first let’s just briefly mention the stupidity of the Civilian Police force using heavy machine guns. I’m curious how NYPD might be the FIRST to know that a terrorist is doing a light-plane strike. Generally I suspect post people wouldn’t know jack until after the plane crashed. And frankly I think the FAA might be the first to get the idea. No matter who finds out, don’t break out a traffic chopper with a Ma’Deuce and a door gunner. SCRAMBLE THE FIGHTERS!

OK onto the big point. This is what we all know. .50 BMG is a BIG round, but 0.511″ (12.7mm) isn’t shit compared to an airplane. The military used some crazy M2 configurations to attempt to take down aircraft…and most militaries instead opted for the auto-cannon (generally loaded with explosive shells) to take down aircraft. And we’re not talking Boeing 777s here we’re talking little Mitsubishi planes.

A Barret M82 (The Rolls Royce of .50 Cal target/sniper rifles) only feeds from a 10 round box, vs the belt-fed M2 which will just keep shooting until you run out of ammo, or the dork beside you forgets to clip on the next belt.

Can we throw a “The Science is Settled” flag on the play now?

**UPDATE**I only briefly touched on the militarization of the NYPD (among just about every other Police force that issues black fatigues and has a SWAT team and equipment) Thirdpower does an awesome job at expanding on that, give his post a read.

Bear Arms

Wow, Wally told me about this one.

Wildlife officials are warning residents that bears are on the prowl for food this time of year after a black bear was shot and killed Friday in a residential neighborhood in Maine’s largest city.

A 220-pound bear was killed at about 7 a.m. in the East Deering section of Portland after a resident reported spotting the bear in a tree 2 1/2 hours earlier. A warden tracked the bear down streets and through backyards before shooting the animal as a last resort because of safety concerns with commuter traffic picking up and schools preparing to open for the day.

That’s a good size bear, and the Deering section of Portland is hardly “The Woods”, its a fairly dense residential zone of the largest city in Maine.

Makes this little number look that much more appealing.

Carry your damn gun, its not just muggers and rapists out there.

“Gun Death” Multiple

Of course “Gun Death” is more relevant than other violent crime because guns create multi-victim crimes.

Two men were stabbed, one fatally, after a dispute early Monday in a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp near Interstates 394 and 94, authorities said.

And of course the whole multi-victim crime is a fallacy, given that most “Gun Deaths” are single-victim.

Obviously it’s “common sense” to ban knives, right?

Play Me Out: My Theme

All the talk of Shanties got me thinking of This Gem

I will note I do not know, nor have a met any members of the Mad Caddies, which makes it very eerie that they wrote such an apt theme for me.

They fucked up the spelling! Fitting really! 😉

Play Me Out: Salty Songs

Offshore life is a dirty hard one, and until very recently devoid of women. The music bread in this environment takes on a certain crude tone that I find quite appealing.
