Fails of the Antis

Two good ones found at the lovely Joyce Foundation website New Trajectory. First is the general lunatic Michael Bannerman (who hides behind his dog, Laci) who is best known for getting sex offenders back on the street with plea deals, and having negligent discharges with replica firearms. He drops this hilarious bomb:

Police and professional law enforcement go into situations that no sane civilian should attempt and do have a need for these.

To even propose that you need these for self-defence “because the police have them” is silly.

Unless, you are not a sane civilian.

…Or if you were the person who CALLED the police because you have IMMEDIATE fear of your life. Of Course Mr. Bannerman would like for you to just wait patiently for the Po-po to show up. And of course even somebody of as limited faculties as he knows that police rarely PREVENT crime, but apprehend criminals. Rarely does a cop show up and actually STOP an attack or murder from happening. Generally they fill out paperwork, conduct an investigation, arrest suspects and build cases against them. And certain Philadelphia lawyers (who pretend to no-longer living in the US, despite buying a new townhouse in Philly this year) make their wealth working to invalidate the work of said law enforcement work. (I in no way have an issue with this as a whole, as we are all innocent until proven guilty, and we are entitled to the best defense, and the Police are hardly infallible…just the plea-bargain system this and other lawyers exploit really does strike me as letting known, and admitted violent criminals free…further it does show a severe ethical conflict of interest)

You see criminals don’t really want the cops to get involved, and the Cops do patrol, but the bulk of their work is done from civilian witnesses…who WITNESS the violent crimes and “situations that no sane civilian should attempt”.

Sorry Dog-Man, I don’t carry a gun because I’m “On Patrol” or “Fighting Crime”, but because crime happens, and when crime DOES happen there are lots of innocent people in the area, and many of those are endangered by the crime directly. With that I shouldn’t be forced to be restricted by your arbitrary and narrow-minded restricted. Especially somebody too stupid to pull the trigger on a loaded gun, even a blank gun, he didn’t intend to shoot.

Good news: Nonfatal violent crime plunges in US in 2010

Links to this article, but is a twofer because it was re-tweeted by non-other than Brady AND Joyce shill Joan Peterson. So they’re pleased about this:

The Justice Department says the number of violent crimes fell by 12 percent last year, several times larger than the average annual decrease from 2001 through 2009.

First, I share their pleasure at the lower violent crime rate. Everybody wins with that. Except its a fail for the Antis because while their alleged end-game is getting closer…their efforts are crashing. Linoge of course shows this in his great graphics. That overall there is MORE gun owners and private gun sales than ever before in the country, there is more conceal carry and defensive-minded shooting and guns. Lots more so-called “High Capacity” firearms, and “Assault Weapons” being sold and being used in self-defense and sport, and there are twice as many states that don’t require permits to carry, only a single state that banns conceal carry, and more states that have switched to shall-issue carry permits.

You see the antis claim that these guns and practices would result in MORE violent crimes. Just the opposite has happened.

But they’re attempting to spin this as a victory…I guess to the legions of the VERY VERY stupid.

We are blessed to have opponents such as these!

Self Defense Dead in the British Police State

The anti-rights fools point out that guns aren’t banned in the UK because you can select from a meager selection of shotguns, and .22 rifles. I think anybody rational knows what that is. Also the gun owners are subjected to registration, taxation, and restriction.

Of course the guns are nothing more than expensive playthings of the upper crust. They are for play and play alone. Shooting of game animals, and shooting gun games. And not even the “Gun Games” we readily think of. No IPSC, IDPA, or 3 Gun. No they have clay shooting, and target shooting, and that’s about it. Shoot somebody, even an armed intruder in your home and you’re going to go to jail, and probably for longer than the criminal you shot.

That’s almost understandable. Guns are treated differently than other items in the UK, and gun owners are treated differently, so its no surprise that criminal investigations involving guns, and gun owners would be treated differently by the law.

Of course its worse than that. Kevin has written about the foolishness of “Offensive Weapons” on his blog. The definition appears to be “Any item you carry because it can be used as a weapon”. Several years ago a man was jailed because after being mugged on his normal walk he took to carrying a glass milk bottle. When he was mugged again he clocked the chap with the bottle in self defense.

The courts ruled that because the bottle was being carried as a weapon and not as a milk container, he deserved some time in jail for defending himself. Kevin has several others listed just in case you think I’m kidding.

Yep from my readings, and direct talk to British subjects, if you’re attacked you DO have a right to defend yourself…it just needs to be done with hands-and-feet, or an improvised weapon, ie a rock or a stick found on the ground, or maybe a woman’s purse that is indeed used to carry goods and has not been “weaponized” in any way.

But wait, it gets worse. I just read this story over at Traction Control.

A wealthy family man was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday after allegedly stabbing a burglar to death with his own knife has been bailed until mid-October.

So have it. You have to scroll though ACRES of drivel about what a good boy the armed intruder was before you get to this single line:

Chief Superintendent Tim Forber of Greater Manchester Police said: ‘We believe the dead man was one of two men who were attempting to carry out a burglary at the house.’

OK so we have MULTIPLE intruders, armed (of course in the UK its illegal to carry a knife around, so armed with illegal weapons at that!) and attacking a home owner IN HIS HOME! One of the thugs gets stabbed WITH HIS OWN KNIFE, and the homeowner is JAILED!

Sorry, this is about as clean a case as they come, and again he’s not yet convicted, but the charges are still MURDER.

Maybe this will get ruled a wrongful miscarriage of justice, but if it doesn’t it would appear that in the British Police State if you are attacked, you are obligated to die politely.

That is one way to solve the problem that Great Briton has Become. After a few generations of this nonsense there won’t be anything left and maybe the United States can buy it cheap. Be kinda cool if the River Thames flowed through the state of New Rhode Island.

“Gun Death” Family Brawl

I’m sure your family gatherings are like this. Mine sure are.

A bloody brawl between two families erupted on a California-Kirkbride street early Wednesday, leaving one man dead and a father and son facing homicide charges…Police said the feud began when Mr. Weismantle’s sister, whom authorities did not name, and Mr. Osborne’s daughter, Kierston Simpson, had a “falling out,” according to a criminal complaint…Alex Osborne told police that the woman and Ms. Simpson started brawling in the street. Mr. Weismantle, clutching a glass bottle, said they should “let the girls fight.” Alex Osborne then went back into the home and grabbed a meat cleaver. Mr. Richard said he watched Bryan Osborne do the same.

When Alex Osborne came back out, he and Mr. Weismantle began arguing. Mr. Weismantle chucked the bottle at him and came at him with his fists up, Mr. Osborne told police. Mr. Osborne then lunged at Mr. Weismantle with the cleaver, striking him at least twice, causing the knife to break.

Mr. Richard told police that the elder Mr. Osborne also stabbed Mr. Weismantle during the brawl. When he attempted to stop the men, the elder Mr. Osborne turned and stabbed him twice in the shoulder.

Man that story just goes on-and-on. This is Pittsburgh where guns are “Readily Available”, but oddly no guns were involved, but there was a dead body and injuries. But no “Gun Death”, so it’s OK, right?

Tunes and Guns

Got thinking about this song:

The Rocky Theme made famous by the Late and Great Maynard Ferguson. We actually hosted a concert of his in my High School back in the late 90s and I got a chance to meet him. Great musician and showman, and was a very kind guy, I’m glad I got a chance to meet him.

Still one thing I got thinking about was this clip is indicative of how he ran his shows. The band framed up him playing VERY loud and VERY high. The guy had AMAZING pipes and could really drive a trumpet to its limits.

That got me thinking, tho. As a Tubist, I found that the lower range could carry just as far without so many calories being expended. Of course its a lot of work getting such a big instrument going.

Got me thinking of the various schools of ballistics. Some like fast and small rounds, say .357 SIG, and others, like myself prefer the heavy and slow rounds like .45 ACP. In the end we’re both right, but none of us will admit it.

Been a long day, and there’s a Monday around the corner. Pour me a Bourbon and put on the sweet tunes of Mr. Bobby Cummings!

Rock-solid song. And as you might know the title is from this horror novel, that spawned three films. The first, Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent Price was quite impressive. Chuck Heston’s Omega man was quite interesting, but didn’t strike me as much. I didn’t even bother with the Will Smith I am Legend, given that most of the major plot points weren’t even touched on.

“Gun Death” Mom’s Boyfriend

Seems when we get these “Gun Death” of kids, its very often the Mom’s boyfriend.

On Tuesday, murder charges were filed against Anthony W. Urban, 24, an Andover man accused of physically abusing Devin. Urban, the boyfriend of Devin’s mother, Elizabeth Moorman, had been charged with assault. Moorman, 40, has been charged with neglect…According to complaints filed Friday, Urban told police he had struck the boy on the side of the head after the child bit down on his fingers as Urban helped him brush his teeth. Urban said the boy’s head then hit the bathroom floor, according to the charges. Authorities said Moorman offered three versions of how the boy became injured. Both remain in jail.

Not his flesh-and-blood, and not a “Gun Death”, gotta be pretty sick for that to make a difference.

What are They Doing There?

We often anti-rights people asking what we’re so afraid of carrying around guns, or keeping rifles for defense. Still reading this quote from Joan Peterson of the Brady Campaign and the Joyce Foundation riffing on this interesting article:

Somehow I don’t think knowing that every shop owner had a loaded AK-47 behind the counter would make me feel any safer while shopping.

Well Joan what are you doing while shopping? This is a key point for every gun-control activist I know of. They are pro-criminals, or criminals themselves. Joan herself gives every defense in the world for her criminally insane and violent brother-in-law, so that she can blame a gun for her sister’s death. Many of her allies on her blog admit to criminal behavior, or are comprised of mostly criminals, or simply give the criminal element every doubt to their violent acts, in favor of persecuting those who are simply defending themselves.

When I shop I’m not stealing, disturbing the peace, or doing illegal drugs. I don’t support violent mobs or riots. If the shop keeper has an AK behind the counter, I have NOTHING to fear…especially when you look at the numbers. The more guns that are out there the LESS likely they are to be used for anything bad.

But maybe the anti-gun types have something legitimate to fear. That’s a good reason for me to carry a gun too, because Anti-Gun people are out there, and they promote antisocial behaviors.

“Gun Death” Baby in Bag

The Winona County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a newborn girl found Monday afternoon inside a bag floating in the Mississippi River.

The baby was a newborn, only one way she ended up in the river.

Yep, not a “gun Death”…yeah…

Just got an Email from Dennis of Dragon Leatherworks fame, he’s unpacking his moving truck this Sunday in the Knoxville area. Anybody who’s willing to help him and his family out can call 845-665-6028 to get the finer details. He’s hoping to start at 0900. I have it on good authority that there will be free pizza and beer for all willing to put in some sweat.

We’ve all been there, moving sucks ass, and lugging boxes suck ass. But we’ve also all been there where there were lots of hands and good conversation, and it isn’t half bad.

So if you can spare some time and a little energy, and you’re in the area, give Dennis a call.
