Second Verse…

….Same as the First, a little bit louder and a whole lot worse!

The VPC, AKA the Joyce Foundation’s version of the Special Olympics now has a publication out on the Ruger Mini-14.

First up they call the Mini-14 the “Poor Man’s Assault Rifle”…which on that line A Winchester 94 is also a “Poor Man’s Assault Rifle” if you definition is “inexpensive, and can be used to assault”. Of course the Mini-14 is just a scaled down version of the Springfield M1A rifle, both of which are not “Assault Weapons” under the Federal Assault Weapons ban, both guns did have select fire variants, the M14 and the AC-556, but honestly both Assault Rifles are obscure footnotes in firearm history, and as far as I know both Assault Rifles are no longer in production by any company.

Now both rifles can be modified to be considered “Assault Weapons”, and actually one guy did to make this really neat video:

The Assault Weapons Ban was a law written by idiots to fix a problem that didn’t exist. Still there are scores of people who won’t admit that they have the IQ of a garden salad and are doubling down on their past mistakes.

But then comes the “Data”. The Mini-14 is a horrible weapon of destruction they list six mass shootings over the course of 24 years…and a grand total of ONE of them (the earliest shooting cited in 1987) The rest seem to simply involve other Ruger handguns. Odd that they’d include an arbitrary, and cherry-picked data set that doesn’t even support their point. Special Olympics. Who wants a hug?

They then use the ravings of known lunatic Anders Behring Breivik to support their cause! Yeah their biggest supporter will probably be admitted to a mental hospital for the rest of his life by the end of the year. Who wants a hug?

Of course those who know reality, know that Old Bill Ruger was actually a go-along-to-get-along sort of guy. He never made high capacity magazines for the Mini-14 available to the public (until recently all large Mini-14 magazines needed to be sourced from 3rd parties) and was known saying “No honest man needs a handgun smaller than a canned ham”.

Some of that attitude has left Ruger when Old Bill passed away, they now have a great line of concealed carry handguns, and offer the Mini-14 with the 20 round magazine, adjustable stock, and flash suppressor pictured above (from all pictures of Breivik, he was simply using a standard Mini-14 with an after-market rail system), still most of their handguns have manual safeties, and magazine disconnects, as well as loaded chamber indicators, so they can comply with “Safety Regulations” imposed by fools like the VPC.

Yawn, yet another report showing the Joyce Foundation attempting to appear relevant, and failing miserably!

“Gun Death” Another Beaten Child

Found here:

Brutal and something that comes up quite often in the “Gun Death?” files. Don’t know how much more to offer to this but that a gun wasn’t used so it wasn’t a “Gun Death”….like that makes any difference to anybody who is still human…

Typical Anti

Discredit opposition (Obviously only Canton Residents can validly claim misconduct when a Police officer threatens to beat and murder a handcuffed and compliant citizen)

Lots of fear mongering about gun rights. Note that he keeps claiming that this is some horrible event because the man was carrying, but the most dangerous person was the out-of-control cop. He also drops the fear flag about carrying in universities and restaurants, which of course he fails to reference problems with that…because there aren’t any.

And of course a combo: “I’m not against guns…” and “Common Sense Gun Control”, well played.

This guy is a total smarmy asshole, and I hope he’s the lawyer defending Officer Roid Rage because this is the best defense that pig deserves!

An Easy Answer

Waldo sends me this article from the Portland Press Herald. Overall its quite the balanced article given that the Press Herald is the Boston Globe of Maine, and acknowledging individual liberties isn’t high on their priority list.

Still the last line stuck to me:

In any case, his bloody attacks raise a question that is being asked with more frequency than before: How can free societies defend themselves from those who use their liberties to plot and carry out deadly assaults on innocent people?

Tragically, it is a far easier question to ask than it is to answer — but part of the response has to be that giving up our liberties for safety is the one sure way to let the violent among us win.

Well if they want a perfect answer, there isn’t one. Iz Life, Iz Not Safe. There is always danger and there is nothing you can do to eliminate it. Still as a free society we can support and respect human life by being willing to stand up against those who do not. When you encounter violence against yourself or others FIGHT BACK! Have tools to make sure your efforts aren’t wasted!

Even our opponents see the writing on the wall:

“There are some in America who will use this shooting to assert that Norway’s strong gun laws don’t work or to support the American gun lobby’s campaign to make it easier to carry guns in public places,” Acting President of the Brady Campaign Dennis Henigan said.

And those who say that, Dennis, would be right!

Looks CAN Kill

Very Good looks! Go check out Chasing Freedom (AKA Mrs. Heath) and her lovely Ren-Fair outfit.

Note the rocking Dragon Leatherworks Pistol pouch.

Just because you’re dressed in medieval garb doesn’t mean you can’t pack 20th Century firepower!

I really dig the “concealed in plain sight” idea behind the pistol pouch. Its the same idea as those who carry in a fanny-pack, but with vastly more class!

Again, Carry Your Damn Gun!

Check out this Video sent to me by Blackhawk101

Caption is:

A home surveillance video captures an armed assault, and a Parkland homeowner’s defense, that occurred early Sunday morning. The homeowner – who only wanted his first name, Danny, used – said he and his brother were checking security around the house prior to a trip out of town. When the two men walked back into the open garage, a man wearing a Ninja mask ran from across the street waving a pistol.
The assailant got into a fight with Danny’s brother, Mike, but then ran away when Danny pulled out his own pistol and fired three shots. Danny said the man returned fire, but only hit the house and a Mercedes Benz parked nearby.

This reminds me actually of this morning. We went out for pizza last night and brought the last slices home for leftovers. And like the dumbasses we are I forgot them in the truck. I remembered that this morning, so I decided to go out and trash the pizza before I forgot again and things turned really nasty. It was still dark, and for no other reason than “just in case” I holstered my 1911, went outside, trashed the pizza, then got on with my day.

Paranoid? Not really. Overly Cautious? Sure, why not, but I was putting on the gun anyway so why not then? I bet the guy in the video was glad he was packing his piece.

Also I can’t really tell who’s shooting and when, but it does appear that the fleeing robber is shooting behind him as he runs. There are ALWAYS exceptions to the “Never Shoot Anybody in the Back” rule. Remember that, as that’s why the School security guard hesitated during this event.

Great video, and carry your damn guns. Sounds like this is a nice neighborhood, it can happen to you, it can happen to me. I may not, but I’ll be prepared anyway.

Culture of Fear

VPC, the Joyce Foundations Favorite propiganda outlet tells us we should now fear Glock pistols. And with VPC’s usual disregard for the scientific method they give 6 shootings over the course of 20 years.

Of course anybody knows that over the last 20 years the most common pistols in America are the Glock series of pistols, and various makes, models, and sizes of M1911 pistol. So yeah of course they used Glocks, EVERYBODY uses Glocks. Gabriel Giffords was shot with a Glock 19….Gabby Giffords herself owns and carried a Glock 19. Sung Cho used a Glock 19 in the Virginia Tech shooting, guess what the cops who responded to the shooting were carrying? GLOCKS.

Also what’s interesting is that the firearm world is starting to crowd the niche that was once dominated by Gaston’s Polymer pistol. We have S&W M&Ps, Springfield XDs, Walther P99s, The Sig P250, and a bit further out the Ruger SR9, Sig Pro, H&K lineup, Taurus, FNP, etc etc. Heck even Lone Wolf has made the Timberwolf which is a non-Glock Glock.

Given also Glock’s resistance to change, and the various problems with the 4th Generation of their pistols, I wonder how hard Glock is hemorrhaging market share to the other people who are building simple polymer pistols at an affordable price. Glock certainly isn’t dominating the market like it once was, then who will VPC pick on?

Frankly I have no interest in picking on Glocks, they work, and the people who have them love them. Frankly I dislike their grip angle, and while just some basic dry-training will fix the high point-of-aim problems I have when picking up a Glock, I’ll note that they are the ONLY company (Maybe besides Styer who’s pistol line has an even more aggressive angle to the grip) who feels the need to angle the grip as such. Also it seems that other gun makers seem to do just fine when it comes to reliability and can do it with fully supported chambers. That being said the Glock and the M1911 have been around for so long, and sold so well that you won’t find parts and magazines with greater ease than these two pistols.

Pet Peeve

I like that politicians are getting the right idea that the 2nd Amendment isn’t about ducks and deer, and that carrying and personal defense are great reasons to own guns. Looks like Tim Pawlenty is giving a good showing for those who love freedom.

Still this is the lead image:

Good choice on the Glock 19, probably one of the most popular Conceal carry and self defense gun on the market. Still LOOK AT THAT STANCE! This is one of those things anybody who teaches proper shooting needs to look for. When you hold the gun out in front of you even a lightweight Glock weighs a good deal, as does that double-stack magazine. (Good idea also only to gas it up with a few rounds with new shooters) all that weight forward the natural reaction is to lean back to cantilever the weight of the gun at your hips. If the game was just lining up the sight and say shooting a laser at the target, this would actually be an ideal stance. But that isn’t the game, you’re going to have to launch that projectile, and adsorb the recoil. With your body canted back the recoil is going to knock you off balance and make even that very controllable G19 feel like a handful.

It pisses me off even more when I see it in publications about people receiving instruction. I got a Second Amendment Sisters newsletter once that had 3 women in a row on a firing line all rolled back on their heels shooting pistols. When teaching new shooters get that weight forward. The weight should be on the balls of the feet, not the heels, if you teach Weaver or Modern Isosceles where the feet aren’t squared with the target, about 70% of your weight should be on that front foot, and you should be bent slightly forward at the waist. You’ll need to watch and reinforce this, as when the new shooter works to align the sights they will naturally want to roll back to get better balance on the gun. This will only make the recoil feel worse, and they will not be as in control of the firearm, which not only decreases safety (tho not drastically) but will also require more confidence building in the long run.

Get them in control of the gun and recoil, then you can see if they want to work up to more powerful guns.

Be safe out there, and have fun!

Perpetual Children

I’ve always refereed to “Progressives” as “Perpetual Children” as they have strong desired to be cared for by and authority, not much interest to be self-sufficient or self-supporting, and they are prone to wild phobias, and demand their Big Daddy Government protect them from that which they fear without concerns for validity, or for the rights of others.

Well it seems that Miguel discovered the apex of that on the CSGV Facebook. You MUST have a look, and a LOL!

I have noted that all “Progressives” are Trolls and Stalkers, just some conceal it better, they are also all like this guy, just some conceal it better.

Gunnie Recycling

Go over hear and give a good read to TinCan Assassin’s account of turning range scrap into loaded ammo.

Very very cool! I thought about casting my own bullets, but my club forbids berm mining (the club lets the company that does the berm replenishment keep all the lead and copper they find, and the scrap cost covers the replenishment) furthermore the local auto shops are all holding on to their lead wheel weights and such, so really if I were to cast my own I’d need to buy the lead, and at that point I might as well just save my time and buy the bullets…and buy them coated in copper.

Still if you can get your hands on scrap lead of some sort it acutally seems like a pretty slick way to further turn “Trash” into live ammo.

VERY cool!
