Gun Free Zones Work Well

**UPDATE BELOW**

Strange case here.

A man carrying a pistol on Tuesday took hostages at a school board meeting in Florida’s Panama City, and was later shot in the standoff, according to local TV report.

How’d he get a gun into a gun-free zone?

The report said it’s believed the man fired blanks at school board members, and was then shot by authorities. Other details were not immediately available.

Blanks can be just as deadly as live bullets, and of course if this freak HAD loaded real ammo there WOULD be dead people. Also given that blanks take a bit of hunting to find either he was a horrible shot and the cops just haven’t found his bullet holes yet…or he was dead-set to raise some pulses. Then there’s this:

The man addressed the school board briefly before using a can of red spray paint to paint a large “V” with a circle around it on the wall of the building.

Sounds like the symbol of the Alan Moore comic V for Vendetta.

I blame 4-Chan!

**UPDATE** Appears that first story is almost 100% bullshit.

Looks like no blanks, just bad shooting, and no cops, he did himself in. I guess he was pissed because his wife was fired, and that is DEFINITELY a v-for-vendetta V he painted.

Wow, This Doesn’t Smell Right

Have a Watch of this video.

First up in defense of the Police, I don’t think its fair for anybody to have the direct confrontation with the grieving family and the police. Also if the police believe they are encountering an immediate threat with a man with a gun they shouldn’t be thinking about shouting commander, using less-lethal weapons, and in this case if long arms like the shotgun used are available they are some of the best tools to keep officers safe.

Now all that being said, the man was observed for some time openly holding a HOSE NOZZLE. Now if the story had been that some dork mistook a hose nozzle for a firearm and called the police, and when the police arrived he had it concealed someplace and the first glimpse they got of it was at the moment of confrontation I can give more leeway. There are lots of stories of people being shot by police because when they confronted a suspect the suspect started pulling random sundry items from their pockets that the cops in the heat of the moment and fractions of seconds mistook it for a gun. Even THOSE cases are often controversial.

That being said this WASN’T the case, he was holding a hose nozzle, which while it does have a pistol grip looks no more like a firearm than a hair drier of a caulking gun.

More disturbing is the mention of “Making sounds consistent with a handgun”. Now I have used hose nozzles similar to this, the only noises they make when they are spraying water is the locking device that holds the grip depressed. For somebody who has poor eyesight and only a basic understanding of guns this could ONLY be confused with DRY FIRING “Click”.

So the cops are observing the suspect and he’s “pulling the trigger” and no rounds are being discharged. Furthermore they call in everybody but the damn national guard to “Contain” this man who at worst is holding an UNLOADED “gun”.

I’m sorry, but this story totally stinks. There’s also a mention from the family (who again is distraught which should be noted) that the deceased was still in the sitting position when he was shot. What comes to mind is did he place his hands on the armrests of the chair, with the nozzle in hand, to get himself up to meet with the officers?

I hope the facts come to light and justice is served, because this does not sound like a good shooting to me.

WTF?

OK Now this is just strange. Yesterday the Gay Community was up in arms about several text books that talk about “Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered issues” were “Vandalized” with urine. Well maybe not…

A mysteriously misplaced bottle of urine and a clumsy staffer — not a hate-filled vandal — were the culprits behind the destruction of three dozen Harvard library books related to gay and lesbian studies, the university said yesterday.

“We have learned this morning that the books, while indeed damaged, were damaged by our own library personnel spilling a bottle of what was reported to be urine that had been left on the shelf,” Harvard College Dean Evelynn M. Hammonds said in a statement. “I believe this is an important new fact in the investigation.”

WTF? OK I gotta ask our resident Librarian How exactly does a library employee end up down in the basement of the library with a bottle of urine? Stranger yet, said employee has a bottle of urine in such a condition that it can be spilled by “Clumsy Action”…

Huh??

Joan Peterson and “Gun Death?”

I’ve been talking to a few people about Brady Campaign Board Member Joan Peterson’s Sister’s murder. Turns out there is a book that talks about it. Found the chapter on the Barbara Lund murder was quite interesting, as its a VERY bizarre case.

Now one thing I read at Joan’s Blog in response to a comment by MAgunowner (who’s blog I only recently discovered) really struck a chord with me.

“I think you’re very sincere but misinformed. Do you have any idea how rare it is for an AR15 to be used in violent crime in the US?

The reason you’re getting such a strong negative reaction to your posts is that you’re trying to mess with a hobby that millions of Americans enjoy.

If you really want to save lives, can’t you just try to ban swimming pools or motorcycles, and leave us alone?” -MAgunowner

The Response?

“No, I won’t be doing that but thanks, anyway.” -Joan Peterson.

On page 134 of “Greed, Rage, and Love Gone Wrong: Murder in Minnesota” is this line.

Russ married Barbara Berglund in 1968. They had two children, a daughter who drowned at age five, and a son, Rober, and officer at Lunds.

Now this struck a chord with me, because #1 MAgunowner has a great point, in that Motorcycles and Swimming Pools kills lots more people than guns do, and certainly lots more than “Assault Weapons”.

Now every Brady and Joyce press release and biography of Joan talks about her sister’s murder, and Joan doesn’t let too much time pass between mentioning her sister’s death.

Now of course her sister was presumably close family member who was tragically killed…but what of her niece?

The whole point to the “Gun Death?” category is to #1. show that controlling the tool does NOT control the problem, but also #2. points out the desire for the Pro-Ignorance, anti-freedom crowd to overlook other deaths in favor of focusing on politically useful ones.

Is not a drowning death senseless and preventable? Isn’t the death of a young child hold more gravity than that of a middle-aged woman?

Of course everybody reacts to tragedy differently, but don’t you think this is a little bit strange, and likely self-serving?

“Gun Death” Philadelphia Strangler

Here’s a recent story I got wind of.

The FBI says it is joining the hunt for a killer who has strangled at least two women in Philadelphia.

Agents from a behavioral analysis unit at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va., will create a profile of the attacker, bureau spokesman J.J. Klaver told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

All the stories I’m hearing are talking about a serial strangler. Pretty scary, don’t ya think? Not too scary to those who consider “Gun Death” to be a valid metric, because strangling deaths simply don’t count, and aren’t worth note.

Play Me Out, Cyriak

I found this guy a while back, and he doesn’t post very often, but his music videos really amuse me.

If you like that check out this one, and this one.

Kinda reminds me of dreams I’ve had while running a fever.

“Inciting Violence”

So recently I’ve been seeing a lot of talk of conservative people, especially those involved in the Tea Party movement “inciting violence”. Here’s an example I pulled out.

Yep Glenn Beck is going to get people killed for his talk on Obama’s authoritarian presidency, and the fact that he’s a little bit of a drama queen.

Now see this local news story.

Burning of Cape Cod homes (and not particularly spectacular ones) with “Fuck the Rich” scrawled at the scene…. More video.

Who’s inciting violence?

Well the honest answer, neither. Let’s face it, there is only a small fraction of people who are violently antisocial. We know this to be true because humanity isn’t extinct. These small number of people who are violent and anti-social are still social enough to latch onto a larger group. They’re never an active member, but somebody who is only obliquely involved. These freaks are acting alone, and allow the rest of the world to be their Rorschach test.

Gun Free Zone Works Good

Heard this story this morning when driving to work. Jennifer did too, and thought of me and emailed me the same story. (Thanks Jennifer!)

A French teenager who held 20 nursery school children and their teacher hostage in Besancon, eastern France, for more than four hours today is now in police custody, the interior ministry said.

France has lots of gun control laws, and I’m sure there are further restrictions of having guns around schools….

The 17-year-old-boy, who was “depressed and suicidal,” according to BFM TV, walked into the Charles-Fourier nursery school at 8:30 a.m. local time, armed with two 30 centimeter- (12 inches) long swords.

Thankfully nobody was hurt, but we can easily see the futility of gun control laws, and also the power that such laws give to people even with very crude weapons. How long do you suppose this hostage situation would have lasted if an adult in the school had a personal firearm and the will to use it?

As I said, nobody got hurt, but we’ve talked before of VERY similar cases in China where they didn’t.

Remember gun control laws without any actions taken against the criminal element simply throws good people at the mercy of a class of people who by definition are not known for mercy.

And of course if you control the criminal population why do you care if the good guys have guns?

Bigotry Exposed

Justice Breyer shows how dishonest and bigoted he is in this interview. First up he mentions shooting handguns for sport. Hey sport shooting is really cool and fun, and I damn enjoy it, but is the 2nd Amendment written so Americans can punch holes in paper? Well the money quote is this:

“Are you a sportsman? Do you like to shoot pistols at targets? Well, get on the subway and go to Maryland. There is no problem, I don’t think, for anyone who really wants to have a gun.”

Well first up Maryland isn’t great for getting a gun, but let’s play a little word switch.

“Are you a NEGRO? Do you like to Eat at the Lunch Counter with all the White Folks? Well, get on the subway and go to Deleware. There is no problem, I don’t think, for Negro who really wants to Eat at a lunch counter.

Yep:

“In the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.” -George Wallace

You’ll notice that he totally dodges the Brown Vs. Board of Education question. I think its obvious why.

Also because I like exposing the bigots on the other side lets play a little with our Favorite Brady Board Member Joan Peterson.

At times, I have been made to doubt myself and my own long held convictions as if they were not thought out or without fact or reason. Then I suddenly get jolted by one too many comments. One such was from one who comments regularly.

She then goes on the misrepresent Sean who she’s banned from commenting pointing out that her Brother in law WAS violating the law by possessing a firearm while under a protection order. (There’s also some evidence that by her sister making contact with him, she was also violating the law…but that’s beside the point).

Of course she doubts her position, it is a house of cards built on emotion and lies, and the comments that she deletes contain facts and reason that fly in the face of her anti-rights cause.

So why does she continue? Well its pretty clear. She doesn’t continue to reduce “Gun Deaths”, she doesn’t continue to reduce violence, she doesn’t continue to increase public safety, she doesn’t continue because she believes the laws she lobbies for would have saved her sister.

She continues for one reason only. She HATES people who honor their second amendment rights. She hates people who own guns. And yes that includes her church members and her own husband. She’s driven by emotion, but many think that the emotion is fear. No the emotion is HATRED. Remember that!

Joan Peterson is a Liar

Heh, so what else is new? But I just thought I’d throw this quote up for you fellas to mull over while I’m in the lab.

Absolutely. They (The members of her Church) know who I am and with whom I am associated. None of that makes a difference to them. They don’t hunt with sniper rifles. These are just regular guys who aren’t afraid of their rights being taken away. In other words, they are reasonable people. They support what I am doing 100%.And, by the way, most of them are fed up with the NRA and have nothing to do with it.

Hmmm

All images courtesy of World Guns (Which BTW has recently revamped and added to his website. Go check it out, its an awesome resource)

All of the above are rifles used by Military and Police Snipers and sharpshooters. They are also common guns used to hunt various game animals in North America.

Hell the AR platform, both the AR-15 and AR-10 pattern rifles are pretty much the #1 rifle found in the field these days because of the modular nature of the gun, the wide variability of calibers and accessories available for them, and I suspect the large amount of veterans of both Iraq wars, and the war in Afghanistan are more comfortable with a gun that is operated similar to their GI M4 and M16. Hell I was talking with a VERY liberal family member (who also happens to be a West Point grad, and combat veteran) and he said if he was going to buy a gun his first choice would be an AR-15 just because he’s logged so much time with that rifle, why learn something new that does the same job?

So of course I must put a dig in, because Joan is such a nasty person, both politically, and personally.

If she’s so full of shit about “Sniper Rifles” and her sister organization’s efforts to ban them. Do you think she’s correct that the members of her Church are supportive of her anti-rights efforts?

If I had to guess, Joan is the type of person where everybody is warned to “Not get her started” at social gatherings. This is just speculation, but I’ll note that I have a LOT of very far-left family members, and I know when they’re just attempting to end a discussion, and I don’t take that as them ceding to my argument.

But then again, I’m actually pretty open about discussing issues with people with differing opinions….
