Great Video

My hat goes off to all who served and are currently serving this fine country.

I didn’t serve so part of me gets the side of the idiots (especially back when I was a snot-nosed “Progressive” kid who knew EVERYTHING) but also I know enough vets from guys who did their service in peace time, to those who were support crews in war theater, to those who’d rather not talk about it.

Great video, and H/t To ENDO

I didn’t serve, but I have three boys who did. All overseas. Two in various sandboxes. All Marines . . . Semper Fi (no really serious injuries, thankfully).

So . . . this video is funny, and so true, and funny BECAUSE it’s true. My boys appreciate genuine sentiments of appreciation; it took one of them a while to understand that the “thank you for your service” comments were not just trite slogans, but genuine appreciation. And for most people, those sentiments are genuine, and as Dad, I thank you for them.

Aside from that, don’t ask. If they want to talk, they’ll open up. And when they do, just listen and try to understand. My oldest son in particular has had experiences I have no idea how to relate to. All I can do is try to understand. He came back, in some ways, a different person than when he left. We are all different persons as we grow.

Be supportive. Be understanding. But don’t ask stupid questions.

I remember calling a buddy of mine on the first Veteran’s day after he got back from Iraq to wish him a happy Veteran’s day and take a moment to thank him for what he did.

Vets are so constantly humble they always seem to wonder what the big deal is.

I don’t quit doing it, and they get used to it.

    “Can I get a raise?”

    BUHUHAHAHWAHA!

Good times. Brought back more than a few memories…

    Thanks Weerd!

    Haha…

Short of being accused of being a lesbian I think I’ve had every single one of those conversations at some point in the last 4 years.

I LOVED the jealousy about SEALs……

    Go Navy! Rangers? Bwahahahaha!

    Just joking……please don’t kill me…..

Great video. Only time I’ve ever had someone ask me if I’ve killed someone was in a letter from a little kid. Wow. I answered the letter. Thank God I never saw combat. THOSE guys are the real heroes. Thank THEM. I just made sure they got their stuff from Kuwait.

even the Heroes in the front need the help from the people in the rear otherwise that would be a pretty easy budget cut! 😀

And every war and skirmish that broke out, the first boots on the ground were the people serving in peacetime positions.

I don’t think its fair to make distinctions of that sort.

Hubbs is in the Army, and I *still* LMAO’d. He also contracted to ROTC straight out of high school, where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering, which he’s used to an extent over in Afghanistan.

When he comes home in a few months, I believe that my job as his wife consists of the following: be supportive and aid him in his transition back to living in the States and with his wife. R&R gave me a preview of what to expect, and I only pray that I’m better prepared when he comes home.
