More Government Waste

Because you know the Secret Service is really just the Director’s Private Security firm:

Members of a Secret Service special unit responsible for patrolling near the White House were pulled off that assignment over at least two months in 2011 to protect the assistant of the agency’s director while she was engaged in a dispute with a neighbor, according to a report in The Washington Post.

Agents were told that the Secret Service director at the time, Mark Sullivan, was concerned that his assistant was being harassed by her neighbor, the Post reported in a story posted Saturday night on its website. The newspaper cited three people familiar with the operation but did not provide their names.

The agents were pulled from a surveillance team that patrols the outskirts of the White House compound and monitors the southern side of the executive mansion whenever crowds gather to watch the president and first family travel via motorcade or helicopter, the Post reported.

Agents inside the Washington field office were concerned that the diversion of agents increased security risks to the compound and the president, two people familiar with the discussion told the newspaper. A spokesman for the agency told the Post that the agents involved were not part of the president’s protective detail and therefore the operation had no impact on it.

…Called “Operation Moonlight” within the agency, the assignment that summer of 2011 called for two agents twice a day, in the morning and at night, to monitor the home of his assistant, the Post reported. The residence was in rural area outside the southern Maryland town of La Plata, nearly an hour’s drive from Washington.

Two agents put on Operation Moonlight thought the reassignment was a potentially illegal use of government resources and were concerned enough about their own liability that they kept records of their involvement and their superiors’ instructions, the Post reported. Some informed the inspector general for the Homeland Security Department about the operation, the newspaper said.

Tho it appears the director acted on his own, you wonder if the number of horrible scandals the Whitehouse has been involved in if a “Culture of Corruption” isn’t to blame.

Another Gun Control Sucess Story

From California Chicago:

Part of a shipment of semiautomatic assault rifles was stolen this week from a freight train container at a rail yard in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, federal authorities and a railroad spokesman said.

The 13 Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport rifles were stolen from a yard located in the 6100 block of South Lafayette Avenue sometime between Sunday and Tuesday, a spokesman with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said.

“We’re hoping to recover them before they’re … used in any type of crime,” said Special Agent Thomas Ahern, spokesman for the ATF’s Chicago field office.

I’m not really sure why the guns were in California, given that A: They’re illegal there and B) California is on the exact other side of the map from Smith and Wesson here in Massachusetts. Could be they were being shipped from a distributor down South to one of the Free states to the North. **UPDATE** It’s Illinois, so yeah the idea that a train car destined for places west of Chicago from Springfield MA might pass through Chicago is VERY plausible. Carry on, I goofed!

Still, even when new production rifles like these were 100% illegal for civilians to own all the companies that made such guns kept making them for military, law enforcement, and private security. This story sort of reminds me of the Depression era Gangsters who got their military weapons (tho they were legal to buy in any place that was willing to stock and sell them) from breaking into Police and Military armories.

Same goes for Mexico, the cartels have real-deal armies of their own armed with all the weapons you would expect any infantry to have. Where did they come from? Well apart from the guns illegally given to them by the US Government in part of the Fast And Furious debacle, they stole them (or illegally bought them) from the Mexican police and military, or they had them smuggled in from South America and China.

Gun control laws only disarm the law abiding!

Some DGUs and The Narrative

One from Sean a black woman who was working a double shift was attacked outside her home. She defended herself, and the wounded assailents were apprehended.

The Second Via Hot Air

Officials say the man knocked on the couple’s back door around 1:30 a.m. Thursday screaming “My wife is hurt, my wife is hurt. Please help!” When 70-year-old Sarah Hudgins opened the door, the man, wearing a ski mask and all black, attacked her grabbing her throat and pushing her inside.

The husband, who officials say is fighting a battle with cancer, came out and pointed a loaded gun at the suspect and was able to scare him off and out of the house.

Go follow the links and watch the videos. Do these stories fit the narrative? Do these look like fat angry white men with racist tendencies to you? I’ll also note that the woman probably lives in a so-called “Bad Neighborhood”, which is generally where anti-rights advocates focus their efforts to make sure people can’t have guns.

The cancer patient who defended himself and his wife without firing a shot is probably on all sorts of medications, and looks really bad. I hope he manages to beat cancer as much as he fended off these thugs. Still you can see the antis not wanting this gentleman to have a gun either! He’s old, He’s sick, he’s on medications! HE’S Dangerous! Except he managed to get his gun when he saw trouble, and keep his head with him and NOT SHOOT when it wasn’t needed.

Also I suspect all parties are not of affluent means, meaning that all the latest joys of anti-rights activism would effect them the most. Expensive permits, taxes, training classes, expensive sci-fi guns. All of these laws and pipe dreams might very well have prevented these people from being armed when they most needed it.

The woman from Detroit would have been chalked up as another “Gun Death” and used to push FURTHER gun control, and of course the elderly couple would have been easy pickings for even this unarmed man looking to do violence, and that case would be ignored.

This is exactly what anti-rights advocates DON’T EVER Want to see! Me? I celebrate their ability to not be victims, and fighting crime by showing criminals their chosen vocation is NOT a safe one.

“Gun Death” GWB

No this has nothing to do with Chris Christie:

A man and a woman were killed after jumping off New York’s George Washington Bridge in an apparent joint suicide on Monday morning,

Rescuers ended up pulling the pair, who appeared to be between 40 and 50 years old, from the water.

Sad, and I wouldn’t really care much about this, because their body, their choice, but those poor rescue workers had to retrieve their bodies. Still the “Gun Death” fanatics like to use the event of “gun suicides” as a way to ban or restrict guns, while ignoring cases like this.

Images of the Antis: Intentionally Vague

This is an interesting one:

So first up, Wayne LaPierre is paid to sell guns? How is his payment linked to gun sales? It isn’t. Of course he’s paid to represent members of the NRA and keep the organization running, which has nothing to do with gun sales. That part is just simply a lie.

Now onto the police chief. He’s paid to protect and serve. But who? Note that police chiefs are high ranking officers of the police force that serve at the pleasure of the politician that runs their jurisdiction. They aren’t elected like sheriffs are, and they don’t simply climb up the ranks like other officers. They’re appointed. So who do they “Protect and Serve”? Why the politician who can drop them back to the lower ranks whenever they feel like it. In this case the Mayor of Baltimore.

So each person has an agenda, but Wayne LaPierre is speaking for the millions of NRA members, Jim Johnson is speaking for ONE man, who is open about his hatred of guns and the second amendment.

Who do you trust, indeed?

Quote of the Day

From Tam on Swiss and their weapons and what they’re used for:

The fundamental difference can be summed up in the fact that participation in schutzenfest is seen as a civic duty in Switzerland, while our second most popular televised sport is directly based on running from the cops. 😉

Yep NASCAR’s roots are from moonshine runners evading the cops in fast cars. Rights and Need have a common origin but quickly deviate once we’re past the hardship of need.

Of course the converse is also true, the antis want to disarm us because society is so safe we don’t NEED those icky guns…which leads to an unsafe society where we are victims to the monsters among us.

Fountain of Youth

Seems a bit hokey, but it seems like some researchers have reversed some of the aging effects in mice!

The fountain of youth might not be made of water after all.

Three new studies describe how the blood of young mice may help rejuvenate the brains and muscle tissues of older mice. For now, it has only been tried in rodents, but this line of research might one day lead to therapies for medical conditions often found in aging humans.

…Two studies, both in Science, focused on a protein called GDF11, which, in its mature form, is identical in mice and humans, Wagers said.

“By boosting the levels of GDF11, we could, in mice, see a restoration of the ability of muscle to repair itself after injury,” she said.

Among the wondrous apparent benefits of this protein: In a resting state the muscles of older mice were structurally improved, and they could generate more force when pulling on a bar, too.

…Researchers also saw benefits of injecting old mice with the plasma of young mice. These old mice performed better on a maze test — in which they had to find a hidden platform in a container with water — than old mice who got plasma from other old mice, or who were not injected.

In another test, researchers trained mice to freeze in place in a particular environment. This fear response lasted longer in mice who more easily recognized the environment. Older mice who received young plasma did better on this test after receiving young plasma, but not old plasma.

It is possible that GDF11 in the plasma could be responsible for these results as well, but that has yet to be investigated, Wagers said.

Very interesting. We’ll see where this goes looking forward!

“Gun Death” Auto Crash

Guns are different from cars because they are different!

A county medical examiner has identified a woman killed in Cleveland after a car in which she was a passenger crashed into a convenience store.

…The driver has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in the crash. Police suspect alcohol was involved.

Even when cars are used as killing implements, only “Gun Death” counts!

Two Baby Enter, One Baby Leave!

I mentioned this on the Squirrel Report the other night, and today while Mrs. Weer’d and Rockstar were out getting their nails done as a Mother’s Day Present, Vector and I were left alone with the kids.

When this happens the only logical solution is of course BABY THUNDERDOME!!!

Thunderdome

OK, both babies had a great time, and both left unharmed. Still it had to be done!

For those not in the know:

Don’t leave your children alone with g33ks, we do bizarre things!
