School Dress Code Stupidity

First up is this pile of “Common Sense” “Zero Tolerance” bullshit:

A high school student in upstate New York was suspended for wearing an NRA T-shirt that touted the second amendment after he refused to turn it inside out or cover the words with duct tape.

Shane Kinney, a 16-year-old sophomore from Grand Island, located between Niagara Falls and Buffalo, served a one-day, in-school suspension Monday after he refused last Friday to turn his T-shirt inside out at the request of the vice principal at Grand Island High School. The shirt was emblazoned with the NRA logo and the words, “2nd Amendment Shall not be Infringed” across the back.

“Mr. Lauria [the vice principal] told me I had to either turn the shirt inside out or put duct tape over the words,” Shane Kinney told FoxNews.com. “I told them that I wasn’t going to do it. I had to sit in the suspension room and eat lunch alone until my father brought me a new shirt to school.”

Yep a shirt with the NRA local and words from the US Constitution as well as crossed frikkin’ Flint-locks upset these non-thinking so-called “Administrators”.

Nothing on the shirt was ACTUALLY against school policy. The student’s parents are not going to fight the suspension, which I have mixed feelings on. On one hand I 100% understand, as these fights get in the way of a good student getting his diploma and getting the fuck out of his shit-heel “Progressive” school district and becoming a productive citizen.

Still it also encourages this foolish behavior. Maybe other students will choose to wear affirming, but non-confrontational political shirts…

And on another subject I have mixed feelings on:

Teachers in West Virginia’s largest school district don’t want to be told they can’t show up for work in jeans and flip-flops.

In fact, they don’t want to be told how to dress, period.

The Kanawha County school district’s board of ed last week introduced a proposed dress code, which also bars facial piercings, and immediately got a dressing down from the teachers union. It’s not that the local teachers want to wear their weekend attire, they insist, it’s that codifying it so strictly is insulting.

First off, I call bullshit! If the teachers are so “insulted” by this, and it in no way is a problem, why do they care?

Overall I’m 100% fine with there being dress codes for faculty in school, or any other place of employment. If you’re going to pay somebody to do a job, you set standards on that job, and appearance, and conduct are just as important as actual performance, especially given the fact that teachers are public employees both in where their pay comes from, but also from the fact that parents and students are mandated to interact with them by law.

Still most of these teachers are likely my age, and none of us were actually raised in a world where professional dress really equaled professionalism. Also given that my father was a teacher, I frequently saw teachers out side of school and on their own time, heck after I graduated I ended up tossing back beers with many of my former teacher at parties my dad held. It really didn’t change anything for me.

Also I have no tattoos, and no piercings, and for somebody my age, that’s a rarity. The fact that most of the teachers who are 21-35 are expected to NOT have facial piercings seems a little against the tide.

On the other hand, my wife chose to pull out her very attractive nose ring once she started working on a professional level, I know many others who have chosen to tame-down their youthful look for one of professionalism.

In the end, I side with the dress code, as if they don’t like coming to work looking presentable, per the given standards they can go to work at Starbucks and look like total hell.

And flip-flops? Seriously? I think anybody who wears them in a public space is a damn fool. I mean what if you need to RUN?

“Gun Death” Satanic Ritual

Man, it feels like I’m back in the 90s reading this:

The teenage boy charged with capital murder in the satanic killing of a girl in Clear Lake made a court appearance Tuesday in Harris County and new gruesome details were revealed including confirmation that the crime was sparked by Satan worship.

The 15 year old victim, Corriann Cervantes, was strangled, sexually assaulted with a curtain rod, stabbed with a screw driver, hit with an ashtray and toilet lid. Court documents says puncture wounds were found on her face and an upside down cross was carved on to her abdomen.

Man I always assumed that the whole “Satanic Sacrifice” thing was an urban legend cooked up by fear mongers in the 90s. I guess not!

Also note the common items used in this killing. I thought only guns killed!

Cool Way To Rid Your Yard of an Ant Problem

Fill the colony with molten aluminum!

)

Came out really neat looking! I generally don’t respond to these non-traditional art projects, but damn, if I don’t think that finished product doesn’t make a neat little sculpture!

Further not only is it a cool piece of metal, but it has a STORY AND a purpose!

More art, less fire ants!

Win Win!

Gun Control Is Winning!

Or at least so they say:

Watts talked about how Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America (MDAGSA) uses digital technology and social media to build its movement.

“When you talk about digital organising, who better to do that than moms? We are a major social media presence,” she said. “For us, email, Twitter, Facebook has become a major way to organise.”

MDAGSA’s first digital campaign pitted the organisation against Starbucks, pushing the company to change its policy against guns being allowed in its stores.

The campaign included Skip Starbucks Saturdays, encouraging mothers to make coffee at home then take photos of themselves drinking it outside Starbucks outlets, sharing them on social media. They were also asked to share photos of people carrying guns in Starbucks.

“This was happening, and we made that public. It really just took three months, and Starbucks changed their policies, saying guns were no longer welcome in their stores,” she said.

A month ago, MDAGSA started a new campaign asking Facebook and Instagram to crack down on people using the social networks to promote their willingness to sell guns or help people evade the law.

The campaign included spoofing Facebook’s “Look Back” videos to highlight groups on the social network advertising guns for sale, as well as personal status updates boasting about not requiring background checks. The video has been watched more than 400,000 times, and it sparked action quickly.

“Last week, Facebook and Instagram announced nine new policies that they were putting in place in response to our campaign,” she said. “We are going to continue this. We are only 15 months old, and we have had major wins. But obviously there is a lot more work to do.”

She suggested that the traditional NRA strategy of stimulating fear among its members that their guns will be taken away by the government can be matched by mothers’ fear that their children will be taken away – i.e. killed in shootings.

“At the end of the day that emotion is what will enable us to go toe-to-toe with he gun lobby, and achieve change quickly,” she said. Social media will continue to be a key way MDAGSA’s members express this emotion.

Wow that’s pretty impressive from one motivated Mom! We’re DOOMED! Well we’re doomed if it was at all true. Shannon Watts is not just an ordinary Mom, she’s a high-paid PR consultant, and none of her “Victories” are true. Starbucks will still serve you coffee if you’re armed, even if you are openly armed, they just might ask you to NOT be openly armed in the name of politeness. Facebook simply said “Go ahead and keep selling your guns, just don’t break any laws, and we don’t like the phrase ‘no background required’, so even if you have no means to conduct a background check, and one ISN’T required, don’t say those words”.

Hell the Brady Campaign calls Watts’ “victory” a defeat.

Further have a look at this picture from the above article:

The gun-control panel at SXSW. Photograph: Stuart Dredge/The Guardian (Thanks for the PR guys! -ed)

That’s Thirteen (13!!!) heads in that picture, almost none of them in the front row (maybe because they came in late, or might want to slip out early). Now let’s talk for a second about convention panels. My #1 experience is via a small Anime Convention in Maine, its hardly South By Southwest, and we occasionally have panels this small. They’re also booked for small rooms, and are generally subjects that are of limited interest. I’ve actually sat on panel boards to audiences of over 100, and I’m a friggin’ nobody.

What the anti-gun groups appear to be doing right now is the “Big Lie“. In some cases it seems to work. Hell look at Lady GaGa’s career! She was the #1 artist in the world, and was selling out Arenas, and now she’s struggling to sell her latest album, one can assume with this that most of the people packing those Arenas weren’t die-hard fans, otherwise she’d still be on top.

Still even in politics this flash-in-the-pan “popularity” CAN work, there are so many laws that have passes, but have since become unpopular, but haven’t been repealed. If this is successfully wielded against us, it could very much hurt us. Hell look at Colorado’s magazine ban, or the New York SAFE act. Both are terribly unpopular, but they are still law for the foreseeable future. They can be repealed, but it takes a very non-trivial effort to do that, and it takes considerably LESS effort to let an unpopular law ride.

Still Watts, and the other anti-gun groups are trying it. How often do you read that “90% of Gun Owners Support more restrictions”?

Still if we did, why do they keep getting defeated, and why is Ms. Watts trumpeting obviously hollow victories?

As I’ve been saying to anti-gun people, if anything you say is true, DO IT! There’s obviously nothing stopping you!

In reality they are sitting at the table with a pile of Michael Bloomberg-funded poker chips, and a hand filled with garbage, and they’re betting big in hopes we’ll cave to their bluff.

Call that bluff!

“Gun Death” Polo

The sport with stereotypes for wealthy elitism can be fatal:

A Mexican-born polo star died after an accident at a match in Florida. Harold Ruslander, an investigator for the Palm Beach County medical examiner, said Carlos Gracida died Tuesday. The Palm Beach Post reported Gracida, 53, was playing at Everglades Polo Club when another player accidentally hit his horse. The horse banged heads with Gracida, who fell off. The horse then rolled on top of Gracida, a five-time player of the year.

Sad, but not a “Gun Death”.

Defensive “Gun Death”

Its not always grim when the “Gun Death?” tag pops up!

An 82-year-old Detroit man attacked a home invasion suspect with a hammer Sunday after the intruder refused to leave his property, MyFoxDetroit.com reported.

George Bradford told the station that he woke up to the screams of his daughter and granddaughter after someone broke into the home through a basement window.

Bradford “could hear him walking up the stairs” and said he went into his kitchen to fetch a hammer. When the intruder refused to leave, Bradford said he “let him have it.”

“He asked me not to kill him,” said Bradford. who hit the intruder once with the hammer.

Detroit police officers then arrived at the scene and say they found a man in his 30s in the front living room area with blood dripping from his head.

The suspect, 33, was treated by medics at the scene, then arrested for home invasion and taken into custody.

Its always a good home defense story when both parties live to tell the tale, and the invader lives to tell the tail in the grey-bar hotel awaiting trial. Still an older gentleman with a hammer against a younger one who wasn’t deterred by invading an occupied home, he was lucky the fight was over quick, and his blow landed true, and the attacker wasn’t so crazy or tweaked out on drugs that he could overlook a new dent in his skull.

The blow doesn’t sound like it was hard enough to concuss the attacker, so the attack was stopped simply because the attacker wasn’t expecting violence in return for his aggressive act.

I’ll stop my Monday-morning quarter-backing now with “All’s Well that Ends Well”

“Gun Death” 2×4

A common building materiel turned murder weapon:

A man died after getting hit by a 2-by-4 at a house party in Pasadena early Sunday, police said.

Two men got in a fight around 2 a.m. at the party in the 600 block of Fresa. One ended up fatally striking the other with the piece of wood, said Vance Mitchell with the Pasadena Police Department.

California doesn’t seem to have Common Sense Lumber restrictions.

People Illegally Crossing Borders…

Shouldn’t throw rocks.

The U.S. Border Patrol told its agents on Friday that when they confront suspected illegal immigrants crossing the frontier who throw rocks at them, they should try to take cover or move away rather than immediately open fire.

Michael J. Fischer, head of the Border Patrol, said in a conference call with reporters that immigrant smugglers were increasingly using rock-throwing as a way to drive away patrols.

Since 2010, agency personnel have opened fire 43 times, killing 10 people, in response to 1,713 rock-throwing attacks against them, Fischer said in the preface to a directive he issued to agents.

He said three officers had been killed in more than 6,000 assaults on agents since 2007.

So illegal aliens sneaking into the country are throwing rocks at border officers to drive them away, and the agency policy is “That sounds like a good idea! Make sure that tactic works!”

This tactical action makes some sense if it was legal US citizens on US streets, because you can call in the riot teams with better armor and tear gas and arrest them. Still most of these illegal border crossings exist because backup and tactics are near impossible to get and execute.

Look, this is a clean shoot:

Ugly, but clean. This situation was easy to avoid. Step 1, don’t get unreasonably drunk in a public place. That’s against the law. Step 2. Don’t fight with the officer who’s arresting you. This also goes for cases where the officer is NOT justified in slapping the cuffs on your ass. Once the officer is arresting you, your fight is in the courts, not in the streets. In this case the officer was justified in his arrest, and it is obvious in the video. Once the officer was on his back and getting his head punched that’s deadly force.

Now think of illegal aliens throwing rocks at boarder agents. Now think of this new policy.

Yeah…

In cellular biology one way cells kill other cells, either by pathogen attack, or immune response, is by rupturing the cellular membrane. When a cell can no longer regulate its inside from its outside, that cell is dead.

Same goes for macro biology. Put a big enough hole in a person, or give them a disease where extreme vomiting and diarrhea occur, they die.

This is what’s happening to this country right now.

More Snow

Seriously!

Its snowing right now. And not what we usually get in March, which hides in the shadows, sticks to tress and grass, but otherwise melts. Its piling up. Its piling up on top of other piles of snow.

I keep telling my neighbors we’ll be out shoveling in April. I hate when I’m right.

Something GOOD out of CPAC

Despite their long parade of RINO and Gay-Bashing headliners, its nice to see this coming from the Attendees.

One day after riveting a packed convention ballroom, tea party darling Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) topped the 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll, his second consecutive victory in the conservative confab’s contest.

Paul won 31 percent of the vote (compared with the 25 percent he won last year), beating a crowded field of more than two dozen names, including a number of potential 2016 GOP presidential contenders. He crushed second-place finisher Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), who came in with 11 percent.

Its good to see the small-government pro-freedom guys getting the votes. I don’t know what this means in the mid-term election, or the Presidential election in 2016, but its better than Chris Cristi cleaning up, or some other anti-gay anti-freedom prick.

Also Paul’s speech was AWESOME!
