The fatal stabbing of a 45-year-old woman in a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp over the weekend does not appear to have been the result of a random attack, police said Sunday.
An employee of the ramp at 9th Street and LaSalle Avenue called security guards about 9 p.m. Saturday after finding the woman lying on the ramp’s concrete floor, and police were quickly summoned, said Sgt. Stephen McCarty.

Just found a cool video of Larry Correia talking about authors who mess up gun stuff in their books, and why we should care.
There are countless books where I totally stop reading for a moment just because something impossible, improbably, or just dumb happens with guns, its distracting and can inadvertently change your impression of the story or the characters.
To pick on myself, as a young man I had aspirations of becoming a fiction author (I have since settled for being a blogger), and one of my stories was a tough New York cop who was modeled after the action movies of the 80s and 90s that I loved…lots of gun play, no knowledge of guns on my part, and it was full of foolish mistakes. The best example was this character’s sidearm was a Colt SAA. Why? Well because I had a toy replica of one, and thought it looked cool. Oh, and BTW the toy was a double-action cap gun!
The character grew up in a gun shop and learned at an early age how to shoot, so it was assumed and claimed he was an expert in them. Also a SAA is hardly a bad gun. Still I had scenes where he was quickly reloading, and never an explanation on WHY he carried such a unique gun.
I was actually thinking about it the other day, and I suspect that if I re-wrote this *awful* story today the gun would more likely be a Colt 1911, or a S&W Model 29, or 25. Those would have made a LOT more sense, but I didn’t know. Of course just because YOU don’t know, doesn’t mean NOBODY else does.

After hitting an Olympic skeet record 148 of 150 targets over two days — including 25-25 in the final — the 23-year-old stood atop the podium for the playing of the U.S. national anthem.
He held his hand over his heart and stood ramrod straight like the Army sergeant he is.

We all know NYC is one of the most anti-gun places in this country. But we should also know by now that anti-gun people really aren’t anti-gun, they’re just anti-freedom:
Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.
Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.
Your body, your choice…unless they don’t like the choice. Also kinda neat that its a man dictating how women raise their infants.

They’re trying to ban online ammo sales:
The proposal was introduced outside New York City Hall by New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg and New York Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, and it marked the latest development in the gun control debate rekindled after 12 people were killed and 58 others wounded in the July 20 shooting inside an Aurora, Colo., movie theater….The Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act would require buyers who are not dealers to present a photo ID at the time of purchase, “effectively banning the online or mail-order purchase of ammo by regular citizens,” according to a summary of the legislation provided to Fox News.
The three other provisions are: Only licensed dealers can sell ammunition, the licensed dealers must keep records of ammunition sales and they must report the sales of more than 1,000 rounds to an unlicensed buyer within five business days.
Lautenberg and McCarthy said they will introduce the legislation later this week.
First up this won’t fly. Lautenberg and McCarthy are two of the biggest losers on the hill, and everybody knows they come from extremist districts of anti-freedom moonbats, and to tie in with them is the political equivalent to grabbing a boat anchor in the deep end of the pool.
He also said the legislation is a “common sense” effort to flag suspicious activity and help prevent such sales to “a terrorist or the next would-be mass murderer.”
Or maybe not. Let’s say you bought a Nagant revolver because you like history, and they’re cheap. Then you want to shoot it. Privi Partizan is NOT boutique ammo, its fairly cheap stuff from Croatia, but that’s 50c per round.
But the Nagant is a miliary sidearm, so they have surplus ammo! Buy that can and you’re looking at 30c per round! That adds up quicky. Hell just one string in the 7-shot Nagant you’re saving $1.40!!! Hey, but that’s 92 rounds over 1,000!!!! You must be a terrorist!!!!
To comply with the law the house will have to open the sealed tin (which is a bit of a selling point in itself, as while the tin is sealed its preserved from the effects of time) and sell the packs in multiples under 1,000…and of course they’ll charge for their time re-bundling the ammo packs!
And of course this isn’t a safety factor. I’ve bought thousands of rounds online, often in large multiples (generally in lots of 500 or 1,000 because most standard packs of ammo come in boxes of 20 or 50, but odd deals get odd numbers, like my crate of 900 rounds of 7.62×51 NATO, that could have easily been 1,100 rounds, it was a good deal for a good number of rounds, so I bought it!), and of course with shipping costs its not uncommon for two or three people to go in on one bulk deal for a common caliber.
This is not terrorist or criminal acts…its not even an uncommon act. Thankfully people already know that and this bill will go nowhere.

If Davenport had stopped there, he would be remembered as just an ordinary killer; most criminologists define mass murder as the killing of at least three people in a single incident. After beating the Mallorys to death, however, Davenport burned the house down, killing their three grandchildren….A mass murderer’s weapon of choice depends somewhat on his victims. Attacks with guns, fire, knives, and bare hands are far more likely to be directed against family and acquaintances than total strangers, while mass murderers prefer to use explosives against people they don’t know. Also of note: Those who use firearms in a killing spree turn the gun on themselves 34 percent of the time, while only 9 percent of mass-murdering arsonists take their own lives.
I write the “Gun Death?” Files because the metric of “Gun Death” is the biggest tool in the anti-gun toolbox, and I really don’t agree with their selfish attitude of discounting so many murders and violent crimes simply because the violent criminal didn’t use a tool they want to ban.
They shouldn’t be using the metric of “Gun Death”, because as a society we don’t care if somebody uses a gun, a knife, a milk bottle, or fire to kill another person, murder is murder, and the degrees of murder intend on the court determining the intent and course of action of the killer. Tools are only referenced to show intent and planning, but the TYPE of tool really isn’t relevant. A man who kills his cheating wife by louring her to a park and pushing her off a cliff will likely face more serious charges than the man who walks into his bedroom to find his wife with the mailman and grabs a gun from the closet and shoots her, as one could be argued a crime of passion, and the other “Cold Blooded Murder”.
“Gun Death” is NOT a valid metric!

A man who suffered lacerations to his legs while in the water at a Massachusetts beach Monday apparently was bitten by a shark, authorities said.
“It looked like a shark bite to me,” Truro, Massachusetts, Fire Chief Brian Davis said of the incident at nearby Ballston Beach. “Witnesses said they saw (a) fin. They saw him go under water. He was hollering for help.”…He also said there were seals in the area at the time of the incident, and the seals may have been a lure to a shark.
Greg Skomal, a marine biologist for the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, told CNN recently that more great white sharks are being seen off the coast of Cape Cod each year.
I used to ship out on long-liners off of Chatham Mass, which is approximately the elbow of Cape Cod, and where people have been seeing a LOT of these sharks have been seeing, and its just a hair South of this beach, which is on the Atlantic side of the Cape. There were times when I thought I could step off the docks and walk to the nearby islands without getting my feet wet, because there are so many damn grey seals. These guys are a delicacy for the large sharks. Is there any wonder why we’ve seen so many of them?

A former middle school principal with a criminal record for crack cocaine could face the death penalty after going on a deadly knife, car and hammer rampage in Florida.
Anthony Giancola is charged with first-degree murder after a frenzied attack on Friday in which he killed two people before crashing his car into a crowded porch and brutally attacking a couple at a motel….Giancola went to a group home for the hearing impaired and stabbed four people, authorities said.
Mass murder by a registered individual and a convicted felon in an institution that probably has SOME form of security if anything just to protect the kids from wandering out. Hey but no “Gun Death” so really this is a success story!!

Some questioned the validity of calling AR-15s and other modern self-loading rifle “Modern Sports Rifles”, but its hard to argue that the AR-15 isn’t all of that. They are well known for their accuracy, making them great for target shooting for both fun and competition. They can be easily accessorized and modified with different stocks, barrel lengths and calibers, and with collapsible stocks and lightweight construction they are ideal guns for hunting and varmint control. Of course the fact that they are ideal for personal defense is just gravy!
Hilarious that the antis are still claiming they’re no good for sporting….not that the second Amendment had anything to do with that. We all know George Washington didn’t cross the Delaware River to get to his duck blind!
