If there is any doubt that gun control is an ideology relegated to the “Progressive” Left this should clear that up:
FFLs licensed by the government should do so for free. With each gun sale made they conduct a background check; a vital public service.
So FFLs need to pay a fee, thanks to the draconian Clinton reform 50% of all FFLs were shut down in the 90s because they did not posses a storefront-type shop, and were rather “Kitchen Table” dealers doing their work on word-of-mouth and Gun shows, so today most FFLs need a shop. States like Massachusetts mandate further restrictions including types of security systems and types of storefronts, as well as state inspections.
To keep many of these shops open they need employees….
So now if somebody orders a gun from an out-of-state FFL, or comes in because of state-mandated background checks, those people will come into the shop, tie up the owner or their employees for anywhere from 20 mins to a few hours (depending on how quickly the background check goes through or how clearly the participants understand the paperwork) and they make NOTHING off of that transaction.
Also note how common such transactions would become is the antis get their way and ban private sale of firearms. This would drive many gun shops out of business, not because firearms sale isn’t a lucrative business, but because the shops would be spending so much of their time doing work for free by government mandate.
This is of course a feature, not a flaw to the antis plans, as if owning a gun is too much of a pain in the ass, many people won’t bother, and if guns become the playthings of the rich and connected…well that’s how all the British Commonwealth nations passed their gun control laws.
Also of course note that “Progressive” is just a code word for “Socialist”, and students of history know what THOSE people do after they ban guns….
