Now I’ll note that Joe and Barron who are in that video are both educated Engineers, and are generally kind, and deep-thinking guys. Don’t know any of the other shooters, but it wouldn’t surprise me if most of them are educated white-collar professionals.

Last weekend the wife and I bellied up to a nice BBQ shack in New Hampshire and spent most of the night talking with the various local gunnies, gun bloggers, and lurkers (BTW Nathan, drop me an email or leave a comment, we need to get together again!). There were a LOT of Engineers, a bunch of nurses and EMTs, a large smattering of Scientists including the Wife and I who are Chemists, and Biologists respectively.

Borepatch remarked that he missed the bog meets since he moved down south, well we missed you too! I will note that Borepatch is some crazy super-genius who knows more about computer security than most, and spent a lot of his time plying his trade in three-letter government agencies that require securities clearances and don’t have much tolerance to “beer swilling Hillbillies”.

JD has a great rebuttal that hits it out of the park.

They tell me as a gun owner I am just a dumb redneck who doesn’t get it. I hold a Bachelors in Psych, and one in Electrical Engineering, I also hold a Master in Engineering Management. .. Yet they call me stupid for looking at the facts and seeing the truth, I am really missing it because of my lack of education. . ..

And to finish it off they tell me it is better that my own wife or daughter is better off at the mercy of some thug who wants to mug, possible rape, beat and kill her than for her to have the know how and tools to defend herself from the bad guy.

Sorry I don’t get it. How can any rational person give up their right to protect themselves and their family when our founders knew it was so important.

Go read the whole thing, its awesome, and I’m proud to call JD a friend, and to know his lovely family (or at least his wife and eldest daughter who are too cool for words).

The truth is, sticks and stones may break our bones, but names will never hurt us. But calling scientists, engineers, researchers, and software developers “a bunch of beer guzzling, uneducated hillbillies” really sends a LOT of insults at YOU rather than us.

So say what you will, we KNOW who we are, and we’re not ashamed!

Joan knows us because she says so!

So far, no comments from the gun rights extremists are worth publishing. Come on guys, you can do better. “Dancing in the blood of victims”? Really guys. How rude and insensitive. I rest my case about everything I said in my post. I don’t believe you care about victims and are not interested in preventing shootings.

I know I called her a “Blood Dancer” when I sent her a copy of “Too many Victims” this morning.

Joan’s good at reading posts sent to her, so I suspect she read it. So there it is, She thinks our time is better spent ringing bells and lighting candles than carrying defensive arms.

Also if you’re one of those people I mentioned who defended your life, Joan would have rather you take your chances with your dangerous threat.

This is the best the anti-gun people can argue. I’m glad because I like my freedom and I like my life.

Police State Thug

So we can’t legalize Marijuana because when you sent the Ninja Murder Squad sometimes the people who are growing marijuana shoot back.

Typical Goal post moving. People defend themselves when their door gets kicked in, and Yelling Police isn’t exactly a sure way to identify yourself.

Also note that these death squads don’t always pick a house with somebody who IS committing a crime.

Who’s the violent people shooting up the neighborhoods again?

Bolt Gun Wizzard

I prefer a pump-action shotgun for shooting, and I find that I’m just as fast on the target and engaging multiples as I am with a semi-auto. The same can be done with a bolt-action

TSA Keeping Us Safe!

Boy the TSA does a good job!

Two passengers were found with ammunition in their luggage at Logan Airport Saturday, Massachusetts State Police said.

In the first incident, a TSA screener found a pistol magazine at a Jet Blue security checkpoint while X-raying a passenger’s luggage.

The passenger, a 55 year-old man from Connecticut, told police he had forgotten that he had the magazine in an obscure compartment in his luggage. The man, who has a firearms license, was cited for unlawful possession of ammunition and allowed to continue on his flight.

A second passenger was found to have a shotgun shell in his baggage at a Southwest Airlines security checkpoint. Troopers found that the shell was empty and allowed the passenger to continue on his flight.

No charges were filed in the second incident.

Seriously, he had forgotten an old magazine in his bag, and another guy had a SPENT shotgun hull! Boy that’s some dangerous shit right there! Just think somebody could have…umm…well maybe somebody could have swallowed the shotgun hull and choked!

Maybe somebody could have popped a few rounds out of the magazine into the aisle and somebody could have slipped on them.

Boy I’m glad we pay BILLIONS on NOTHING!

Straw Man Made Flesh

What do you call a Straw Man that isn’t made of Straw?

Lowry’s question is revealing, largely because he doesn’t bother to attempt to name any of the “gun controllers” who wouldn’t want McKinley to be able to defend herself.

Major gun violence prevention groups are upfront about their support for law-abiding citizens to be able to keep firearms for their own protection.

They then quote some Brady Boilerplate about how they “Support the 2nd Amendment” and Self-Defense. Well two can play at this game.

Brady on “Assault Weapons”

Sporting rifles and assault weapons are two distinct classes of firearms. While semi-automatic hunting rifles are designed to be fired from the shoulder and depend upon the accuracy of a precisely aimed projectile to kill an animal, semi-automatic assault weapons are designed to kill as many people quickly, as would be needed in combat.

Opponents of banning assault weapons argue that these military-style weapons only “look” scary. Assault weapons look scary and are scary because they are equipped with combat hardware. Combat features like high-capacity ammunition magazines, pistol grips, folding stocks, and bayonets, which are not found on sporting guns, are designed specifically to facilitate the killing of human beings in battle.

Scary terms, but so called “Assault Weapons” are better suited for self-defense than duck and deer guns that have low capacities, more powerful ammunition for longer shots against larger animals, and are often heavier.

On Magazines.

Assault clips are designed to enable shooting mass numbers of people quickly and efficiently without reloading. They have been used in numerous mass shootings, including in Tucson, Virginia Tech, Fort Hood, and Columbine, but they are not useful for hunting or self-defense.

Well except for when they are used in self defense. Seems those “Assault Clips” are riding in the holsters of a huge number of lawful Americans, as well as Law Enforcement officers, and are used to save lives EVERY days. Oh and I said carry holsters, how do they feel about carry?

Allowing untrained, under-trained, and/or emotionally unstable or impulsive persons to carry loaded hidden handguns in public puts people at risk of being killed or injured, intentionally and unintentionally. It also makes it harder for law enforcement to identify the real perpetrators during a shooting. Allowing more people to carry concealed handguns in densely populated cities, on crowded subways, on buses and in sports stadiums, is a recipe for disaster.

I assume “Disaster” is crime being deterred, and bad people getting shot. I can’t say I agree with that goal.

They also quote Mayors against illegal guns, which is indeed a sister group of the Brady Campaign, and also get funds and resources from the same Joyce Foundation that pays for the Media Matters website.

You see they’re FOR personal defense, just not in any way you get to USE it.

Sorry but the “Straw Man” is real.
