Seriously this made the morning news wire:
Rapper Snoop Dogg was arrested over the weekend after border control agents found what they said was a small amount of marijuana on his tour bus.
The singer and record producer, 40, was stopped at the same Sierra Blanca, Texas, checkpoint on Saturday where country singer Willie Nelson was arrested for marijuana possession in 2010, customs officials said.
Ummm yeah, that’ll happen. He doesn’t get on the Bus without his medicine! 🙂
So Joan Peterson is obviously upset that our simple counter protest went better than her massive organizations joint-effort snit went. So she complains.
And this, my friends, is how the gun rights extremists reacted to a nation wide vigil with thousands of victims and others lighting candles and ringing bells. Cynical, stupid, wrong-headed, rude, twisted, ridiculous…. These folks think of themselves as clever and want to get into the faces of victims and gun violence prevention organizations. It is not funny. And they are uncomfortable when the focus is on victims. I wonder why? They don’t like victims because victims is what this is all about. There are too many victims. The video above is so immature and ridiculous as to make the public wonder what kind of country we live in. These folks could have just sat back and shut up. But they needed to mock. They felt a need to try to call attention to themselves. If they think this helped, they are sadly mistaken. And they are wrong. Victims matter. If the public begins to realize just how many victims there are, they might just demand common sense from elected leaders. If elected leaders truly realize the impact of gun violence on our American society, they might just act. So mocking victims and making fun of serious and emotional vigils is just plain tasteless.
You want to talk about victims? How about A Girl and Her Gun who was mugged, and now carries a gun so she won’t have to be at the mercy of a monster ever again. How about Sarah and Cee who sent a home invader packing with a 9mm JHP? Or Caleb who was glad to have more than just a cup of coffee when he encountered a knife-wielding mugger. Or Robb, who rather than posting a picture of his snazzy Glock 20, or his new M&P40, or his limeted edition Gunblog 45…he posted his Dan Wesson .357.
What makes this particular picture special is that what you see is an actual firearm that was used to prevent violence. As a ‘gun violence survivor’, I am alive today because I had that particular Dan Wesson .357 in my car while driving up to reserve duty. Had I not had that pistol in my front seat, I would have surely been dead or severely wounded when two thugs decided I was disrespecting them by not driving off the road to get out of their way not only threatened me but the passenger decided to show me exactly what they meant.
Or Tam who’s well known for her S&W Revolvers, her 1911s, and her recent switch to an M&P, but there was one day when she found that pepper spray wasn’t enugh, but a Glock 23 was the tool she needed.
Or the Young Widow that had to shoot a knife-wielding thug to protect her young baby!
Or the Kroger Manager who shot a violent thief who was taking hostages and threatening lives.
Or these people who were held hostage by a rocked-up bank-robber. Go read the whole story. Do you think those people maybe wished they had something a little more substantial than an clothes iron, and some guile? (h/t to Maddmedic for that story)
No we talk about victims too, Joan. We also don’t Mock, as you claim. We respect, but where we part ways is we talk about SOLUTIONS. Joan will PRETEND to talk solutions. She’s talked about her murdered sister when talking about background checks, gun bans, magazine bans, carry bans, and mental health reporting, among other things. Not yet has she ever mentioned a law, proposal, or idea that if implemented before the time of her sister’s murder would have done a damn thing.
Meanwhile I just talked about several people who’s lives would have been MUCH worse off had they not had the tools to defend themselves. Meanwhile your group has Collin Goddard, a man who was shot by a lunatic in a gun-free zone, who is seeking to inflict all sorts of laws that will make more people as helpless as he was, or simply restrict freedom for ZERO gain.
Oh and we talk about solutions to VIOLENCE and to CRIME, or “Gun Violence” and “Gun Crime”, a made-up metric who’s irrelevance Joan can’t or won’t understand.
How is that smart, or showing “Common Sense”?

As we saw here, the Ogden SWAT wants total compliance or Death. They got neither in their recent raid on a decorated Army Vet who allegedly was growing pot for recreational and medicinal use. They’re still out for blood.
A Utah prosecutor says he’ll pursue the death penalty against a man who opened fire on police, leaving one officer dead and five others injured.
Weber County District Attorney Dee Smith said Monday that Matthew David Stewart of Ogden is being investigated on suspicion of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated and marijuana cultivation.
They’re going to kill this boy any way they can…all over a naturally growing weed, and the fact that they wanted to go in hot with their ninja gear, rather than simply arresting him when he went to work that night. You can see from the video the person being assaulted has NO way of knowing the people attacking him are police with a warrant until its too late.
This is thrill seeking cops working overtime to justify a SWAT team they don’t need, and shouldn’t have.
A sad tale from Japan, a nation with very little “Gun Death”.
A pair of Taiwanese students were found stabbed to death in their blood-drenched Tokyo dormitory, having come to Japan to learn Japanese and study anime, it is reported…The pair was found at the dormitory they had been staying at, owned by the Intercultural Institute of Japan and situated in Tokyo’s Taito ward – near Akihabara.
One was found collapsed in the entrance to her room, whilst the other was lying on a bed inside. The room was said to be “covered in blood.” The attack apparently occurred late the previous evening.
Police say they both died from blood loss after being stabbed in the throat, each being the victim of a dozen or more stab wounds, with one being found dead and the other expiring after arriving at hospital.
Investigators have not been able to recover the murder weapon or the keys to the residence.
No suspects are currently being held, although the father of one of the victims says he suspects an acquaintance must be responsible as nobody else would have had easy access to their room
Does it make it any less brutal that a gun wasn’t used? If not, why are people using the metric of “Gun Death”?

Can’t sleep so I thought I’d discuss this song:
A great song, and it has just about all the factors why I really dig Dubstep.
First up it has a nice driving beat, and uses some nice funky otherworldly sounds. What’s the point of Electronica if it sounds like regular acoustic music?
Also note the heavy amount of dissonant chords as well as the 6/8 time signature which is common with dubstep. Other Commonalities that are particularly unique to dubstep are progressing the melody with sub-harmonic basslines, and setting the beat by modulating the sound.
This song also gets bonus points for being in a harmonic minor key, and having a video game sample in the mix! (AT 4:13 on this mix, bonus points for the first person to name it correctly, it’s an easy one)
Good stuff, and really neat to listen to if you’ve taken a music theory course or two, or can put your finger on many of the oddities in the mix.

So when I originally planned our Candlelight Vigil to Stop Violence I didn’t plan it for us. Granted I think we all had fun taking pictures and seeing how others showed their support, plus the SCOPE of the support. Still fun is just fun, my goals were a little more serious. As always I want to give the fence sitters something to think about, specifically which is more rational, lighting a candle, or having the resolve to defend yourself and others against violence, and wanting to extend that right to anybody who is willing and legal.
Also I wanted the anti-rights people to see us. They are constantly saying the gun industry is dying, and gun ownership, and the belief that the 2nd Amendment means the rights to protect yourself from harm and oppression from enemies foreign and domestic is an unpopular belief.
They are liar, and I want them to look at their own lies. Well they have.

No, Ladd, I think lighting a candle is a pointless gesture if that’s the extent of your actions. I too lit a candle…but I also carry a gun, because as North Said: “Please defend yourself with something more than hot wax.”

Authorities have arrested three Philippine nationals on charges of violating arms import laws by selling a grenade launcher and other weapons to an undercover officer…Dennis Lao, a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, says that beginning in 2010, the men sold the undercover agent weapons that they exported from the Philippines, including 12 fully automatic rifles, a sniper rifle and rocket propelled grenade. The items were seized when they entered the U.S.
That’s the ATF’s job!
