And Amazing Peice of History
Carteach gets his mitts on an FP Liberator.
great write-up AND a video! Go give it a read. The FP Liberator was a piece of shit gun that makes Hi-points and Jennings look like a custom build 1911. But the idea BEHIND the gun is amazing, a shame it was never deployed. Also this is why Americans with small-arms is a cornerstone of freedom and safety.
Also its why bad people want to take those guns away.
Go give it a read.

Sensible Control
Whipped Cream Difficulties points me to this story.
Mason jelly jars, whiskey quarts, wine and beer bottles — all have been among history’s vessels of choice for a homemade gasoline bomb.
Now, a less likely vehicle has come forth: the dainty, 9.5-ounce glass container used by Starbucks to house its popular Frappuccino drinks.
Investigators believe that in a rash of firebombings Sunday near the Queens-Nassau border, a Frappuccino bottle was the incendiary component of choice in most of the attacks.
He links the Gasoline “Gun Death” story to further show just how dangerous gasoline can be if abused.
Of course we won’t see “Common Sense Controls” rise up, because like comparing cars and guns, you can’t compare Starbucks and Guns because “Progressives” love Starbucks.
The people are the weapons, everything else is just tools.

Science and Religion
Wizard PC notes some odd data points in the Hybrid Shark Story
Let me just set it for you this way, Wiz. One of my first paying Marine Science jobs was a summer internship with an aquaculture research company. I got VERY interested in aquaculture and did a lot of research and projects in it.
Now I spent a LOT of time on Atlantic Salmon. Atlantic Salmon gets a LOT of attention in Maine, as the native diadromous fish (the ones that migrate into the ocean, then return to fresh water to spawn) are essentially extinct, but there are a good deal of land-locked populations (The fish don’t NEED to travel into salt water, and can live their entire life cycle in rivers streams, and lakes). The purist environmentalists are big into getting the diadromous fish to return to Maine’s rivers. I really could care less because it costs a lot of money for what is essentially vanity. Still they claim three big problems to this. #1 is physical impedance, these rivers were used heavily during the industrial revolution, and are still used for hydro-electric power. The fish can’t cross the dams and barriers, so this warrants expensive fish ladders, they cost a lot of money, and generally don’t work.
#2. Industrial Chemicals. Its strongly believed that fish find their way back to their ancestral lakes and streams by smell. If the local paper or industrial mill is dumping chemicals when the Smolts are going down stream, but they’re not running, or dumping different chemicals when the adult salmon are heading back upstream they could be confused and not go to the right place, or spawn at all.
#3. Farm fish. Aquaculture salmon, while the same species, are bred like Holstein cows, they are not “Genetically pure” and designed for farming.
Now look at the last two, and note that a Farm fish is raised in a land-based hatchery, then trucked to an ocean-based farm, and salmon cannot spawn in salt water.
If the fish are so touchy on how they find their way home, how can a farm fish EVER spawn with native fish? One of those principals HAS to be wrong.
But this NEVER comes up. Why? Well because industry AND farming are both “Unnatural”, and seen as bad by the same brand of greenies who think the world is somehow a desolate place now that Salmon don’t migrate up the Penobscot or Androscoggin river anymore.
The Scientists who aren’t in industry, and therefore responsible for concrete results (ie none of these scientists get fired if the salmon don’t use the Fish ladder, or if a Farm salmon is found swimming in a stream that it has never lived in) are just as susceptible to religious zealotry as the goofball hippie waiving a sign on Wall Street.

Follow-up on Pharmacy Robbery
Yep, the ATF Agent stopping a robbery was Shot by a Retired cop.
I don’t want to armchair QB this story but it seems the BIG issue was two cops without uniforms acting like uniformed cops was the big issue. The ATF agent was perusing the armed robber with his gun drawn. Kosher behavior for a cop, but verboten for an armed citizen.
Be careful out there. Same goes for cops, just because YOU know you’re a cop, doesn’t mean anybody else does, or if they’ll take your word for it.

Neat Video
Fishing under ice from Juuso Mettälä on Vimeo.
From Pissed. I knew a few people who did diving below frozen lakes for fun. Frankly I used to watch the divers do work on the fishing boats in the dead of winter and thought “There is no fucking way those guys are getting enough money to do this shit!” But these guys are lunatics.
That being said that is an AMAZING video and they did some awesome production. Still its 8 degrees outside and I feel even colder now.

Kids And Guns
Erin sends this VERY interesting story that puts an interesting twist on the “Kids and Guns” issue.
Just hours after a widow laid her husband to rest, she’s forced to shoot a pair of intruders who showed up to her Blanchard home, threatening her and her 3-month-old baby.
One of the alleged burglars was killed in the gunfire.
Now in the first report I read her simply described as a “Teen Mother” (which is correct), and didn’t give her name, which I assumed meant she was underage. Still she can’t be more than 364 days past 17 which would make her legally a “Child”, and also while most states allow people 18 and older (and in many cases younger) to own long-guns like the shotgun she used, but most states say this mother can’t defend herself outside the home or own a handgun.
Still good on her for taking the initiative for her defense and the defense of her young baby.
Also go read the article about the community reaching out to help her through this horrible experience.
Anti-rights people believe that people are mostly bad, and can’t be trusted with any power or responsibility. BTW they believe this because they ARE the bad people who can’t be trusted with power and responsibility. While pro-rights people believe that most people are good and can be trusted….but there are VERY bad people about who don’t follow rules and sometimes need to be killed.
This story seems to cover them all.
Carry your guns, and do good, people.

Like the Sun Rises in the East
Comments are now moderated and being conveniently deleted over at the Joyce Foundation blog “Kid Shootings”

Baldr DOES have a commenting policy:
Commenting Policy
Please keep comments respectful. Anonymous comments are not allowed.
Now have a look at this thread. Now look at how it looked last night (image capture thanks to google cache). You be the judge of not only why Baldr deleted those comments (after letting them stand for several hours and RESPONDING to them) but what his motives are.
BTW Baldr has often brought up that he is no allowed to comment on this blog any longer. I don’t have a commenting policy, and thankfully I haven’t needed one to date as I’ve easily dealt with problem people on a case-by-case basis, personally and with respect. Baldr’s case is here.
Essentially the nature of his troll status and what he’s doing here are one and the same. If he can’t control the message he doesn’t want to talk. His comments here were simply Joyce talking points and personal attacks, and he refused to address any rebuttals. (Again his open refusal is published)
This is the state of gun control in America, they aren’t even concerned with winning anymore…just APPEARING to be NOT LOSING.
If they weren’t such a wretched, bigoted, and depraved lot, I might feel sorry for them. Instead I don’t, I mock them.
BTW the next time an anti talks about “Compromise” or “Cooperation”, the apropriate response is: “Pound Sand! We don’t NEED you, you keep doing what you’re doing, while we keep succeeding.”
There’s been a lot of talk about what the antis mean by “Compromise”, the bottom line is that even with OUR definition we don’t need their help. They are stupid, and they are liars, and they bring NOTHING to the table. They deserve nothing but our Mockery as we continue past them to our goals.
You lose!

Iowa Mess
Romney defeats Santorum by 8 votes in Iowa
Essentially there are two kinds of Republican Primary voters. The Establishment people who vote for whoever came in 2nd place last time, without even wondering if they’d make a good president or not….and the people dumb enough to think there’s actually anybody better out there.
Romney has the Momentum of a party that has produced such amazing statesmen as Bob Dole, George W. Bush, and John McCain (see a trend here?) and the others guys aren’t any better, but the people are SEARCHING.
Santorum is the king of the fag-bashing losers, and he hasn’t garnered any support…well until the people who KNOW they dislike Romney but have been disgusted by Bachman, Perry, Cain, and Gingrich.
Now the interesting question is will they actually consider Ron Paul (I’ll be voting for him in the Massachusetts Primary) or will they simply chose to elect yet another George Bush/Barack Obama politician.
Santorum won’t last, nobody really likes him, and the attacks have already started, so the question is, is it Romney, and will people who dislike Obama vote for the Gun-banning Author of Obamacare?
Me? I’ll be voting for Obama in November, knowing with a clear conscience that I voted for the lesser of two evils.
What this country needs is a brutal GOP defeat so maybe these Authoritarian assholes will get the message.

“Gun Death” Knockout King
Several people sent me this story, but Bubblehead Les was the first.
Matthew Quain still struggles to piece together what happened after a trip to the grocery store nearly turned deadly. He remembers a group of loitering young people, a dimly lit street — then nothing. The next thing he knew he was waking up with blood pouring out of his head.
The 51-year-old pizza kitchen worker’s surreal experience happened just before midnight earlier this year, when he became another victim of what is generally known as “Knockout King” or simply “Knock Out,” a so-called game of unprovoked violence that targets random victims.
Now I’ve heard of this game being used for Gang initiations, and I know there were at least two deaths in my home town of Portland, Maine in about the last 15 years, and I’ve covered this in the “Gun Death?” Files before. Still this is the first I’ve heard of it being a game of “Sport”.
First, let’s point out that this “game” is frequently fatal, but also uses nothing but the attacker’s fists. Also the victim is chosen based only on how oblivious they are to the “Game”. Condition white can very much be fatal. Always be aware of who’s around you and their behavior. Street thugs are generally not trained actors so there is almost always a “Tell” no matter how hard they try to conceal it.
Be careful out there.
