Kids And Guns

Erin sends this VERY interesting story that puts an interesting twist on the “Kids and Guns” issue.

Just hours after a widow laid her husband to rest, she’s forced to shoot a pair of intruders who showed up to her Blanchard home, threatening her and her 3-month-old baby.

One of the alleged burglars was killed in the gunfire.

Now in the first report I read her simply described as a “Teen Mother” (which is correct), and didn’t give her name, which I assumed meant she was underage. Still she can’t be more than 364 days past 17 which would make her legally a “Child”, and also while most states allow people 18 and older (and in many cases younger) to own long-guns like the shotgun she used, but most states say this mother can’t defend herself outside the home or own a handgun.

Still good on her for taking the initiative for her defense and the defense of her young baby.

Also go read the article about the community reaching out to help her through this horrible experience.

Anti-rights people believe that people are mostly bad, and can’t be trusted with any power or responsibility. BTW they believe this because they ARE the bad people who can’t be trusted with power and responsibility. While pro-rights people believe that most people are good and can be trusted….but there are VERY bad people about who don’t follow rules and sometimes need to be killed.

This story seems to cover them all.

Carry your guns, and do good, people.

Like the Sun Rises in the East

Comments are now moderated and being conveniently deleted over at the Joyce Foundation blog “Kid Shootings”

Baldr DOES have a commenting policy:

Commenting Policy
Please keep comments respectful. Anonymous comments are not allowed.

Now have a look at this thread. Now look at how it looked last night (image capture thanks to google cache). You be the judge of not only why Baldr deleted those comments (after letting them stand for several hours and RESPONDING to them) but what his motives are.

BTW Baldr has often brought up that he is no allowed to comment on this blog any longer. I don’t have a commenting policy, and thankfully I haven’t needed one to date as I’ve easily dealt with problem people on a case-by-case basis, personally and with respect. Baldr’s case is here.

Essentially the nature of his troll status and what he’s doing here are one and the same. If he can’t control the message he doesn’t want to talk. His comments here were simply Joyce talking points and personal attacks, and he refused to address any rebuttals. (Again his open refusal is published)

This is the state of gun control in America, they aren’t even concerned with winning anymore…just APPEARING to be NOT LOSING.

If they weren’t such a wretched, bigoted, and depraved lot, I might feel sorry for them. Instead I don’t, I mock them.

BTW the next time an anti talks about “Compromise” or “Cooperation”, the apropriate response is: “Pound Sand! We don’t NEED you, you keep doing what you’re doing, while we keep succeeding.”

There’s been a lot of talk about what the antis mean by “Compromise”, the bottom line is that even with OUR definition we don’t need their help. They are stupid, and they are liars, and they bring NOTHING to the table. They deserve nothing but our Mockery as we continue past them to our goals.

You lose!

Iowa Mess

I think this sets a trend.

Romney defeats Santorum by 8 votes in Iowa

Essentially there are two kinds of Republican Primary voters. The Establishment people who vote for whoever came in 2nd place last time, without even wondering if they’d make a good president or not….and the people dumb enough to think there’s actually anybody better out there.

Romney has the Momentum of a party that has produced such amazing statesmen as Bob Dole, George W. Bush, and John McCain (see a trend here?) and the others guys aren’t any better, but the people are SEARCHING.

Santorum is the king of the fag-bashing losers, and he hasn’t garnered any support…well until the people who KNOW they dislike Romney but have been disgusted by Bachman, Perry, Cain, and Gingrich.

Now the interesting question is will they actually consider Ron Paul (I’ll be voting for him in the Massachusetts Primary) or will they simply chose to elect yet another George Bush/Barack Obama politician.

Santorum won’t last, nobody really likes him, and the attacks have already started, so the question is, is it Romney, and will people who dislike Obama vote for the Gun-banning Author of Obamacare?

Me? I’ll be voting for Obama in November, knowing with a clear conscience that I voted for the lesser of two evils.

What this country needs is a brutal GOP defeat so maybe these Authoritarian assholes will get the message.

“Gun Death” Knockout King

Several people sent me this story, but Bubblehead Les was the first.

Matthew Quain still struggles to piece together what happened after a trip to the grocery store nearly turned deadly. He remembers a group of loitering young people, a dimly lit street — then nothing. The next thing he knew he was waking up with blood pouring out of his head.

The 51-year-old pizza kitchen worker’s surreal experience happened just before midnight earlier this year, when he became another victim of what is generally known as “Knockout King” or simply “Knock Out,” a so-called game of unprovoked violence that targets random victims.

Now I’ve heard of this game being used for Gang initiations, and I know there were at least two deaths in my home town of Portland, Maine in about the last 15 years, and I’ve covered this in the “Gun Death?” Files before. Still this is the first I’ve heard of it being a game of “Sport”.

First, let’s point out that this “game” is frequently fatal, but also uses nothing but the attacker’s fists. Also the victim is chosen based only on how oblivious they are to the “Game”. Condition white can very much be fatal. Always be aware of who’s around you and their behavior. Street thugs are generally not trained actors so there is almost always a “Tell” no matter how hard they try to conceal it.

Be careful out there.

Project Phoenix

Things are moving in the podcast world pertaining to Vicious Circle’s last episode.

The big question I’m having is how does somebody running Windows 7 record an MP3 off of a Skype call.

Bonus points if this software can be used to edit audio files. Alan did all of VC on a Mac, and I vowed back in the 90s that I’d never venture down that dark path ever again, and old grudges die hard.

Who has what I need?

A Change in Culture

You still see vestiges of the old Gun Culture of America. We have laws that talk about only allowing “Sporting” firearms, or restricting guns because they have “No Sporting Purpose”, or people saying “Why do you need [Gun X]? You can’t hunt with it!”

We still have sport and hunting guns (and we always will, because as long as the 2nd Amendment exists in its original intent we will always allow hunting and sport shooting) but the new gun culture is about defensive guns.

Wisconsin residents have overwhelmed the state Justice Department with so many concealed weapon permit applications agency officials say they probably won’t meet deadlines for issuing approvals this month despite pulling dozens of employees from other tasks to help.

These people aren’t buying guns to shoot ducks, deer, or pieces of paper (Tho they may do one or all of those activities in the currently or in the near future) they’re getting guns to carry defensively. Not only is OWNING guns part of American Culture, but CARRYING guns is too. KEEP AND BEAR Arms, just like the Amendment says.

The Anti-rights cultists are simply anti-American, and if they don’t like it, they can leave.

As for those of you new to carrying, you might find this article interesting! Carry your guns, you never know when you might need them!

I Welcome I New Shark Overlords!

Beware, Hybrid Australian Sharks!

Scientists have discovered the world’s first hybrid sharks in Australian waters, with multiple generations of the new creature found along the nation’s east coast.

Scientists say the discovery of interbred sharks could signal the presence of new “tropical” sharks in waters as far south as Sydney, The Australian reported….The new shark is a hybrid of the genetically distinct Australian blacktip, whose range extends north from Brisbane, and the larger common blacktip found in southeastern coastal waters.

The scientists say interbreeding between the two shark species is a sign the animals are adapting to climate change and they also warn that hybridization could make the sharks stronger.

Now comes a very tricky biology question, are the two “Species” of sharks actual separate species or are they subspecies of the same species.

Really the line between close species is VERY blurry. Still if this species is successful and can thrive in the full range, this will be THE new Tropical shark species…or if its not successful it’ll just be something that pops up in odd occations or exists in a very narrow habitat, like Coydogs, or other hybrids.

Still a neat story.

Shills Be Shillin’

Baldr Odinson of Cease Fire Oregon had a hard time updating his blog more than once a month with half-assed anti-rights talking points. Even his twitter feed doesn’t see much action. But he’s decided to add to his efforts with a new anti-rights blog “Kid Shootings”.

Overall he’s just aggregating stories where kids get shot with guns. Essentially the reverse of the “Gun Death?” Files, only Baldr wants the blog to be the “Kids getting shot Blog” and I made a point to limit the number of ‘Gun Death?” stories I publish every day so my blog simply isn’t the “Gun death?” blog (but I have that above link, and the tab in the side bar to the right that will allow you to just view this category). We’re not exactly playing on the same field as I publish one “Gun Death?” story per day except for major holidays and days of remembrance where I think the time is better used, and any incidentals that come up in the usual blog-fodder. Baldr is just posting whenever.

Also in “Gun Death?” I attempt to explain why I’m using this story, and why its significant. My big points are:
– “Gun Death” is a made-up metric, and really shouldn’t be relevant to anybody who’s concerns include public safety. ie: If “Gun Death” went down by 40%, but murder went up by 80% any rational person would see that as a decline in public safety…while people who focus on that metric would actually declare more murder as “Better”.

– People kill people, not tools. A variation on the bumper-sticker slogan “Guns don’t kill people, people do”, where you can see murder and violence at the hands of people who DON’T have guns. This also shows exactly what would happen if guns never existed or magically disappeared.

– When everybody is disarmed the strong prey on the weak. I like to point out that if the victim had been armed, quite possibly the bad events could have been avoided.

Baldr’s new blog doesn’t make many comments, just spreads blood on the dance floor. Of course he does supply “Resources” that all stay within his Joyce Foundation family.

Pages like this:

Thirty-three percent of U.S. households contain a gun (Pew 2009), and half of gun-owning households don’t lock up their guns, including 40 percent of households with kids under age 18 (Johnson, p. 175).

Take away: Lots of households own guns (and I suspect Dr. Johnson’s results were LOWER than actual) yet underage unintentional “Gun Death” is a VERY small number.

A gun is 22 times more likely to be used in a completed or attempted suicide, criminal assault or homicide, or unintentional shooting death or injury than to be used in a self-defense shooting (Kellermann, p. 263).

Yep, Arthur Kellerman the “Researcher” known for cooking his numbers to make the report add up in the way his grant writers want…and when those numbers suck, simply making them up.

In 2007, 138 children and teens ages 0-19 were killed in unintentional shootings

First up 18 and 19 aren’t “Children”, and second even with the skewed numbers 138 in one year is statistical noise. I guess all those unsecured guns aren’t a problem.

In 2009, 3,588 children and teens ages 0-19 were treated in emergency rooms for unintentional gunshot wounds

again 18-19 are not children. Also I wonder if gang activity is screened out by these numbers.

For the time being the comment section is open. I dropped a few valid points for Baldr to look at. Maybe you have something to add.

This is the best they can do.

A Follow-Up on the Hunting “Only One”

A Follow-up to this story.

NORTON, Mass. – The husband of a Massachusetts woman shot by an off-duty state trooper hunting deer after dark is questioning the trooper’s target identification.

If you’re confusing a woman, or even a dog for a deer, you don’t have a clear shot and SHOULD NOT MAKE ONE. Of course being a cop, the “Only One” mentality is in full-gear.

Authorities say the shooting was accidental. A state police spokesman says Bergeron was properly licensed and faces no criminal charges. The investigation continues.

Ummm you shot a woman thinking she was a deer. If I mistake a loaded gun from an unloaded one and shoot somebody do you think no charges will be filed?

Nope I don’t have a badge so I’ll lose my rights. Really I’d deserve it, there isn’t much margin for error when shooting, that goes double for hunting which is sport. The cop isn’t going hungry because he didn’t fill his freezer that day. No he was shooting a deer for the sport of it and shot a woman walking her dogs.

Nope you don’t get a pass for that, buddy, and neither should I.

Migration of the Politically Irrelevant

Yep the Jew-Bashers are still around, what else would they do?

Some “Occupy” demonstrators who’ve clashed with police in New York City have migrated south as the new year begins, joining their colleagues in the nation’s capital where authorities continue to allow protest camps at two locations.

They’re running out of ground to protest in as even the most Marxist Mayors have kicked the legions of losers to the curb (often with violent riots). The money quote on this was this:

“I think (the movement’s) most important stage right now is to inform the American people, before we can give any kind of particular answer or one message,” he said.

“This is still, relatively, in my opinion, a young movement, and I don’t think it’s so much that it’s anybody having the same answers but everybody asking the same questions right now,” he told CNN, speaking on camera with most of his face concealed by a heavy winter scarf.

This movement has NO leadership, and NO central message. The person complaining about the bank bailouts is speaking with the same authority as the person speaking out against the wars, as the person who thinks the Jews are responsible and should be killed.

The bottom line is these people are listless losers, criminals, degenerates, and the mentally ill. They are unhappy because they will ALWAYS be unhappy, and that leads to their violent and anti-social behavior.

Still if they want a place to be, DC is the place for them.

National Park Service spokeswoman Carol Johnson told CNN the protesters in McPherson Square do not require a permit because their group contains fewer than 500 people and is considered a 24-hour vigil. Police in the area have said their enforcement so far has been to keep city streets clear of protesters, and to respond to petty crime that may take place around the camps.

But I wonder if they mind protesting in a place where its legal for them to do so?
