Neat Gun

Not sure on the details, but it looks neat! Detonics modular 1911! Not sure how much is modular, like can you swap calibers just by swapping uppers? It appears the grips are double-stack and polymer (tho it might be metal, hard to tell from just that picture) and the “Gun” is a chassis with rails and firing controls that mates with different grips and different “Uppers”, so you can take a 5″ 1911 and drop a 3″ barrel and slide onto it. Kinda neat. Frankly I’d rather just have two guns than worry about all the extra parts given that I doubt there’s a huge savings.

I do have a soft-spot for polymer framed Double-stacked 1911s. They just seem so WRONG! I mean the king of all-metal and single-stack defying those norms. I mean how do you berate Glocks when your 1911 is double-stack and plastic? (Hint: Grip angle, unsupported chamber, and lackluster reliability with the Gen4 Guns! 😉 ) Shelley Rae reviews the Bul M5, I’m not sure if this is pre-suck or era-of-suck Kimber, but the Kimber TEN has always been interesting to my eyes.

Of course there’s the STI 2011 Series which is THE name in double-stack 1911s, and it has a grip that appears VERY similar to that Detonics.

Still, when looking at polymer double-stack 1911s, I get wondering if maybe its too far. I like 1911s, and I carry one damn near every day. Still why the 1911? Well they’re fun, and I like shooting them, which means I’m good at shooting them, so there’s that. Also For Carry, because 1911 has a double-lug lockup with the slide rather than just the monster barrel-hood lockup (which is cheaper and works just as well, means the gun is fatter) they are SCARY slim. My S&W1911Sc with Chip McCormick slim grips measures 1.1″ across the safety wing. Its about 0.9″ every where else. This makes for a gun that is VERY comfortable to carry and VERY easy to conceal.

Looking at double-stack .45s, Why wouldn’t I just want the simpler and cheaper S&W M&P45? Or the XD series, or the FNH P45, or many other polymer double-stacks that really rule the market. Yeah even the Glock 21 or G30 if you’re OK with the grip angle and either don’t shoot reloads, or put in a replacement barrel with a supported chamber.

Still in the gun world the question should never be “Why?” but “Why Not??” 8)

Controversial Photo

Go over to Oleg’s and give this pic a good look over. See if you can see what I think is so controversial.

You Know What Would Be Awesome?

A Magpul PDR

Chambered in .300 AAC Blackout stoked with their 220 grain subsonic rounds with a small suppressor on the muzzle.

Of course suppressors are NFA and a royal pain in the ass, there is really no easy was to make the PDR not a short-barreled rifle, as even with an 18″ barrel the gun is still too short overall to be non-NFA. And make it too big and you lose the whole point of such a cool gun.

I think it would be cool!

Morning Read

Joe has a great post up on the origins of the “Progressive” political movement.

Go give it a read.

“Progressives” often speak about the great evils committed in the name of religion, yet they cling to the tenants of Marx which has lead to most of the largest genocides and political mass-murder over the last century. Yet their words always breath the lie “This time we’ll get it right!”

I will heed no ground to a “Progressive” as they are pushing one of the most dangerous religion in the world.

“Gun Death” On a Boat

Simple tale, we hear it every day, just most of the time its cars.

The driver of a speedboat involved in a Friday night crash that killed four people, including the driver, had racked up numerous drunken driving convictions, according to online Wisconsin court records.

But we can’t compare “Car deaths” with “Boat Deaths” with “Gun Deaths”. The Gun is different because its different!

Yeah!

WOW!

Won’t lie its a catchy song, but DAMN that video is stranger than most of the J-pop bizzaro I’ve seen.

Now I have a philosophical question: What happens when a J-Pop star (or their art director) drops acid? Also are psychedelics in common use in Japan, or have the people simply trained their minds to see the world in such a way?

Thanks Tam for opening my mind! WOAHHHH!

Gun Dreams

Had an interesting gunnie dream last night. I dreamed I had just finished having dinner with some friends at a small urban cafe late at night and I was walking back to my truck. The landscape struck me as much like Portland where there are some various surface lots and abandoned buildings where you can park for free so long as you’re willing to walk through some shady zones. Wasn’t an issue, as it was a nice warm night, and I had my S&W 642 riding in my pocket. While walking through an alley Suddenly a big set of arms grabbed me. One had me around the chest, and the other was at my throat. I quickly fished my J-Frame out of my pocket cocked my elbow back until I felt the muzzle hit the torso of the man behind me and I touched off two rounds.

Hit, I saw the white hair of a young Whitey Bulger skulk off into a building. (BTW this scene seemed very reminiscent of the opening of Blood Work.

Not caring one way or another how things would work out for him I beat feat back to the cafe where the owner was closing shop for the night, told my story can called 911.

911 dumped me into a phone tree that essentially got me stuck with various busy signals and endlessly ringing phone lines. The cavalierly was not coming. I remember being upset that I didn’t have a reload on me, and now my diminutive J-frame only had 3 lives charges, but as some point through dream magic a pair of speed-strips arrived in my hand so I could do a tactical reload and pocket the partially used strip.

With no noticeable time passage it was suddenly morning and I decided it was safe enough to venture home. I was walking through a neighborhood of small single-family houses on postage-stamp lots, when guess who I see standing in a driveway washing a 1950s sedan? Ol’ James Whitey Bulger, and he recognizes me and is not happy about getting shot the night before (of course he looks as limber as a teenager after eating at least one .38 in the gut) He opens the passenger door of the car and pulls out what appears to be a J-Frame sized revolver, but this thing must have been in .44 Special as it had only 4 large holes in the wheel, and it was unloaded, but he was quickly stuffing shells into the charge-holes. By the time he had the cylinder shut I had my J-frame out and I put two in his chest and while he was on the ground raising the gun to me one in his head.

Knowing how he shrugged off the first hit in the alley, and that he seemed to be a bad penny and always turning up, not-to-mention his FBI most wanted status, I decided to put the last two into his head and feed the gun a fresh reload.

Yeah it was a little blood thirsty but I can’t imagine a jury in the world that would convict me.

Interesting dream as my gun ran just as it was supposed to, none of the typical hink that is known to us gunnies. And it appears that bullets not only landed where I wanted them to (with the exception of the two contact shots while I was grabbed from behind) all shots I remember a sight picture and trigger squeeze) and when the shots landed they were noticed by the recipient.

Only odd dream things were that Whitey Bulger seemed to have both found the fountain of youth, but also seemed to be at all interested in me, the magical appearing reload, the bizzaro 911, and that strange 4-shot .44 (I wonder if that is even possible).

Anyway thought I’d share. Oddly enough Mike also had an odd gunnie dream.

“Gun Death” Road Rage

Watch the video to see the accident scene. Seems like a road-rage case.

Hey but no guns were used, so no “Gun Death”. Of course the anti-freedom people often cite road rage as a reason to not allow people to carry loaded guns in their car because it can make road rage worse.

Watch that video again you cold-blooded harpies!

Movie Reviews

Grahhh I still feel like crap. So the free ice cream is just flowing like asphalt. So here are some quick movie reviews:

Despicable Me . Nothing really new presented, except that its children’s movie with an anti-hero as the lead, which is fresh. Overall its just a fun and amusing ride, and a great film for anybody with kids who can’t watch the more risque films.

Next up was drastically better than I expected. Love the Beast OK, Eric Bana, and a Ford XB Falcon GT, SOLD! Toss in Jay Leno, and Jeremy Clarkson, and a really candid look at Mr. Bana’s family, not to mention some AMAZING race footage in Tasmania, and it was a GREAT documentary!

Last up is a mystery. SOMEBODY from The Conspiracy Lokidude told me this film was streaming on Netflix (Love the Beast is too) but I forgot who tipped me.

The film is Modify, and this film pulls NO punches. It explores the world of body modification. It does a very good job at getting inside the mind of people who tattoo, pierce, surgically altar, scar, brand, as well as taking an interesting angle and talking to professional body builders. Not only did they give great interviews and present the art of body modifications, and shows some very amazing modifications and performances (like suspension shows) but it also shows a lot of bloody surgery, from cosmetic stuff like liposuction, face lifts, and breast augmentation, to piercing, implanting objects, tongue splitting, genital implanting and piercing, as well as gender reassignment.

Lots of blood, genitals, and stuff that looks VERY painful. I won’t lie, it made me a a bit uncomfortable in places, which is kinda why I put it on in the first place. Very very neat film. The coolest thing I took away was the interviews with Lizard Man as well as Stalking Cat, they really presented their modifications in a very sane and pedestrian way which I really enjoyed, given that I have not one tattoo or piecing.

Also what’s neat is one of my distinctive personal features is my beard which is a LACK of modification. Just neat.

Yeah so go check them all out, but be warned that Modify is a rough ride. If you’re into that, then its awesome, if you’re not, you’re not going to like it.

**UPDATE** Mrs. Weer’d just reminded me we also watched Blood Work which has been streaming on Netflix since I first started looking at their streaming selection, but I watched this week, and it blew my mind. GREAT mystery really good story, and good pacing. You’ll like that too!

I Hope We Hear More About This

Arcticelf tipped me off to this story

A experimental device that delivers electrical pulses to the forehead can help control epileptic seizures, say scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles….”Medications can cause mood problems, fatigue or problems with thinking for some people,” DeGiorgio says. “I see this as an alternative because it doesn’t cause those side effects.”

Yeah they do! Interesting info and of course I’d be interested in more data than provided by NPR. Still I must say we’re doing OK with this. The meds are being scaled down so far problem-free. Sadly I can tell the difference between a medicated and un-medicated Mrs. Weer’d, but hopefully that will be minimized over time.

Still good to see more stuff coming out over time. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more, and maybe even see a clinical trial if that seems like a good idea.
