Straw Man, Counter Point

So this video is making the rounds on blogs staffed by people who want to remove all doubt that they are idiots:

Of course anybody who can open a book, let alone read the squigglies on the page knows that Somalia is a Fudal system run by warlord tyrants. Not really all that “Libertarian”, given that the only people who have the individual liberty are the ones with the walled fortresses and the guns.

Also is it really a good idea to be slandering individual liberty? Let’s face it, left or right, its the Libertarians who are doing the hard work on gun rights, freedom of speech, 4th Amendment rights, opposing things like the TSA and the War on Drugs, as well as being the ONLY group who’s really showing any love to the gays.

Do you REALLY want to paint yourself as being opposed to those endeavors? Not to bight, as I said.

Still I’ll counter that if Somalia is a so-called “Libertarian Paradise”, then North Korea is the “Progressive Paradise”. And rather than a hyperbolic video I’ll post a document. h/t to Bluesun for the info.

This is what Progressivism looks like at night:

Just what we all want, right?

PS: Also if you want a REAL Libertarian paradise I New Hampshire is a pretty damn good choice, and unlike Somalia (which isn’t Libertarian at all) New Hampshire isn’t scary at all!

Floater

I don’t have too much to add, so I’ll just do linky. Sebastian and Jay have covered this bizarre story of a body floating in a public swimming pool for several days without notice.

All I have to add is that there was an indoor muni-pool near my home growing up. I spent a LOT of time in that pool, either just swimming, taking swim classes or getting my SCUBA certification, and for the various swim teams I was on in school. I also knew several people who worked in that pool, so I’ve been at the pool when the lights were being switched on.

The pool is empty and the water is like glass. If you don’t see an adult body resting on the bottom you didn’t look, and if you didn’t see an object floating in the pool you probably shouldn’t be out in public without a chaperone, and you have no business working in on or around a pool.

I wonder if there was foul play, or if this was just an amazing level of incompetence.

Very strange case.

Gun Lust

I can’t explain it. I really don’t much like Single Action Revolvers, and I rarely cock the hammer on my DA revolvers. I have little interest in black powder guns (Tho Howdah Pistols are wicked cool), but there is SOMETHING about cap and ball revolvers that really gets my juices flowing and puts me in a mad fever for a gun that you spend 2 minuets shooting, and 10 minuets loading, and 2 hours cleaning. Not a lick of sense, but just watching this video puts me all in a lather.

Also another thing that really gets me is how different they are from shooting the smokeless guns I butter my bread with. Even as a handloader, I really don’t know too much about greasing the ball, or patching, or wadding. I certainly have no idea about cap sizes, and hearing “Number 10 vs Number 11” is totally alien from somebody who stocks large rifle, large pistol, and small pistol magnum primers.

Also I’m quite curious about ball size. I always read in the catalogs that the Dragoon and Colt Navy are “.44 Caliber” tho he’s stuffing 0.454″ balls into that hog leg and getting VERY good results (2 for 3 on the 80 yard Gong! Have you seen how suck-tastic the sights are on those guns??)

Part of me wants one just so I can become proficient in loading, shooting, and cleaning it.

Some day.

Oh also what’s cool is by ATF rules those are NOT guns, so you can buy them no different than buying a knife or a power drill. So it would also be kind of neat to buy a pistol that would be 100% off paper and not apply to any of the Massachusetts stupid rules.

(FYI Mass Rules a Black powder gun is considered “Unloaded” if there are no caps on the nipples)

How to Drum up Controversy

You can prattle about politics, but unless its abortion you won’t get much. Hell I stated that all doctors who write prescriptions for Marijuana should have their license revoked for violation of ethics. We can talk the caliber war where I claim that in terminal ballistics there really isn’t much difference between 9mm and .45 ACP. I’ve also said that I don’t see much point in .40 S&W or .357 Sig, and I’ve advised people away from those cartridges over to 9mm or .45 ACP.

Still all that you wanna stir up some reactions, mention that Chili without beans sucks, or that you ate a Chicken Fried Steak at IHOP!

FYI the wife has fried me up a steak on an occasion or two (even tho she doesn’t much care for the great Southern Delicacy) so I do know what a good CFS tastes like.

And yes we’re talking about a trip to Texas sometime in the near future, and yes I’m gonna eat AT LEAST one chicken fried steak whilst I’m down there!

LOL Gun Nuts, where guns are just tools, but dammit you are what you eat! πŸ˜€

“Gun Death” Where’s the Beef

Everybody, make a point to eat a cow!

Iowa β€” A woman has died after being attacked by a cow on her farm.

She was feeding the cows and one of them decided it was time to fight the power. BTW another reason to carry ALL the time. I suspect the cow didn’t kill her immediately, and an old woman vs. a massive bovine is no fair fight, but add a farmer with even a .380 and the playing field gets better. Knew somebody in school who dispatched his own beef with a .357 Magnum, so that might be my go-to.

Just because they’re “Domesticated” doesn’t mean they’re safe.

Play Me Out: God’s Waiting Room

So I asked the wife if she was interested in going out for a fancy dinner tonight in celebration of the good news from the Doctor.

Of course she’s still not 100% so I suggested take-out, but she found a coupon for IHOP and thought that sounded pretty good.

I found it hilarious that she had Funnel Cakes, and I had a Chicken Fried Steak. Chicken Fried Steak is about as Rebel-Food as things get, and sadly IHOP and Denny’s are the only place one can really find a Chicken-Fried steak in the New England. And the Closest I’ve seen a funnel Cake is in New Jersey, I had no idea what the hell they were, we have fried dough in these parts! Yep so we both ordered “Exotic” food, LOL! πŸ˜›

Still the real subject is it appears that if you’re knocking on Death’s Door on a Wednesday evening, it appears that IHOP is the place for you to go. After the Mrs. and I I think the next youngest person there, guests or staff, were 60. This was the song I had to refrain from singing, and being a rude whipper-snapper! πŸ˜€

This version is a little better IMHO, but embedding is disabled.

Another really cool version here.

G’night folks!

More Idiocy From the Gun Banners

Thomas Menino is the Mayor of Boston, he is also the Co Chair with Michael Bloomberg of “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” (Which has a large number of criminals in its ranks) he is also a very stupid man. (Go spend some time at that site, its a hoot!) He’s equally as bright with his “Solutions” to the violent crime problem in his city.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is calling for a ban on motorized dirt bikes in the city, partly in response to a shooting in a Dorchester playground that wounded a four-year-old boy.

Menino — who called the motorbikes loud and dangerous — said Tuesday night that the city will immediately begin enforcing a ban on the vehicles in city parks and will ask the Legislature for permission to prohibit them outright in Boston.

Initial reports said two men fled on motorbikes after firing shots Monday night at Harambee Park. Investigators now believe the shooter fled on foot, but police said the presence of motorbikes in the park created an even more chaotic situation.

The Dorchester neighborhood of Boston is totally in the grips of the gangs, and most of the murders go unsolved because witnesses refuse to come forward because they and their families will be killed by the gangs for “Snitching”.

So we have what are likely underage gang members with illegally acquired guns, in a state that requires a permit and training to own a gun, registers all guns, demands background checks on all sales, and has a “Safety Roster” that restricts the sale of many types of handguns.

And the solution is to ban mopeds.

Doesn’t that fill you with confidence?

Again the other side is the side of the feeble minded.

The Story the Nation Ignored

Robb mentions a Marine who received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism for foiling a attempted robbery, mass rape, and murder.

On the night of the party, the robbers stole money, cellphones and other items from the partygoers. Then Barner and the five other male partygoers were forced into a back bedroom; the four women were split into two groups and sent to separate bedrooms.

When the men overheard the robbers’ plan to rape the women and then shoot all the victims, Barner decided he had to take action. The sergeant, licensed to carry a concealed weapon, waited until the robbers were far enough away from the bedroom that he could grab the .40-caliber handgun in his book bag, which he had stashed in the room earlier that night.

This story has been very close to my heart because it covers so many gun rights issues. First these were college students….you know the ones who should never have guns, right? Second it was a massive assault where the robbers mentioned their plans to rape all the women, then execute the entire party. “Give them What they Want?” What if what they want is to rape you and then kill you and your friends?

Furthermore one man was killed, the other fled. Lots of lives saved, one life lost. I also read in one of the reports that one of the party goers was superficially wounded by a stray round from the Marine’s pistol (not sure if that’s true, I do know the original stories never mentioned he was a Marine).

All of this makes for an epic story…and it was only published in local papers and gun blogs.

Why would the media ignore a story like this? The only explanation I can think of is that a lawful citizen (specifically a young black man) foiling a brutal mass murder with a concealed pistol is an inconvenient truth.

He Had a Good Run

Looks like Peter Falk shed his mortal coil at the age of 83.

Of course we all love the Princess Bride (seriously does anybody NOT like that film?)

Still my favorite of his works was a fairly recent one:

Go watch it! Then you can thank me!
