You don’t need to be a dating expert to be smooth in the business of matchmaking.

Just ask Chris Coyne, the South Portland native who co-founded OkCupid.com. In its seven years, the online dating site has attracted millions of members and the attention of a multinational corporation, IAC, which bought OkCupid last month for $50 million.

Coyne, 33, who now lives on the Upper West Side of New York City, said he struggled with dating in high school.

I was a year behind Chris, and we were on Swim Team and Tennis Team together. (OK he was a diver, but we were all pretty-much the same outfit back then). He was a really quiet guy so we weren’t close, but I can’t say anything bad about him. What I can say is he was a brilliant Math Student, taking advanced high school (shit a Math dullard like I took in college) and generally had his business together.

And I guess it paid off, didn’t it!

“Gun Death” Strangled, and Bad Justice

This story is a bit old, but I had to give it some discussion.

A city man who strangled his mother with a rope has been found guilty of second-degree murder.

Keshroy Bristol, 21, had been charged with first-degree murder for the Feb. 28, 2008, killing of Beverly Parker, 49.

He will receive an automatic life sentence, however a hearing is to be held next Friday to determine how long he must serve before being eligible for parole.

So we have Canada, which is a bear of gun-control. We have a “Gun Death” of a young man strangling his mother to death. He get’s a “Life Sentence” but he’s going to be walking free again.

How much is wrong with this story??

“Quote of the Day” Bruce

Drinking with a gun in your pocket is like drinking with a car in your garage, as far as Iā€™m concerned.

I will first say I’ve hoisted a few beers with Bruce, and all of them while we were both armed. I will also say Bruce is the kickass kind of guy who will drink microbrew, or PBR and Narragansett.

Still, while I will firmly say that one should NOT carry while intoxicated, but I find the comparison of carrying to driving (sober and drunk). When driving it is a VERY active experience, you need to keep your hands on the wheels and feet on or near the pedals, and your eyes on the road. When somebody carries a particularly carry-friendly gun or holster they might say “I forgot I was carrying”. I can certainly say that about carrying my S&W 642. You forget you’re driving while you’re driving you WILL crash, and generally you NEED to be drunk to forget you are carrying.

Also let’s face it, most of the drunk driving accidents are the driver getting distracted with an impaired reaction time, or falling asleep at the wheel. Fall asleep with a gun on you hip (Something I’ve done many times) NOTHING HAPPENS! You fall asleep with the gun in the holster, and you wake up with your gun in the holster!

Now alcohol does effect your judgment, so it could confuse your mind when deciding if you’re in a lethal force situation, and certainly it’ll effect the coordination of your draw and aim. Still is it as severe as drunk driving?

I just can’t compare the two.

“Gun Death” Ultimate Gun-Free-Zone

Why do people think that lesser gun-free-zones like schools or post offices that have ZERO security would somehow improve safety when the ultimate Gun-free-zones, Prisons, things like this happen all the time.

Snohomish County prosecutors have filed a charge of aggravated first-degree murder against the prison inmate accused of strangling Corrections Officer Jayme Biendl in a chapel at the Monroe Correctional Complex last month.

Metal detectors, cavity searches, in-house uniforms, and 24 hour guards, and you still have violence. Gun Control doesn’t work. Period, Full-stop!

Product Review: Stonewall Kitchen

Growing up in Maine, and having fine tastes, one must know about Stonewall kitchen.

Now some products I’ve had and LOVED are things like their Wasabi Mustard, their Mustard Pretzel Dip, Their roasted Garlic and Onion Jam is to DIE FOR! For more traditional tastes their Blue berry jam, or Strawberry Peach Jam, really good stuff.

But I must say…their Blue Cheese and Herb Mustard, I cannot recommend. They went a little crazy with the Penicillium-flavor. I just had a sandwich made with the mustard for lunch, and if I hadn’t JUST opened the loaf of bread I used, and eaten a piece of cheese while making the sandwich, I’d have SWORN some of my ingredients were moldy.

After I finished dinner I ate a spoonful of mustard….nope, it tastes like mustard on moldy bread. NASTY. It went in the trash.

For a company that really makes some odd stuff, they really have a good batting average. But I’m a bit surprised they screwed up blue cheese mustard.

We need this bill to pass, and more like it!

Lawmakers and residents engaged in heated debate Tuesday over a bill that would make random airport security pat-downs and body scans criminal in New Hampshire.

Here Here! The TSA has accomplished NOTHING but harassing good people. They can’t catch a cold, and cost us millions. This is all not to mention the indignity of the latest screening methods which are both assault and 4th Amendment violations.

“Let’s put their name on the sex offender registry, and maybe that will tell them New Hampshire means business,” said bill co-sponsor Rep. Andrew Manuse, R-Derry.

Fuck yeah!

What is Wrong With This Story?

So a Civilian in Germany shot up a Bus of US GIs, the German subject (not sure if he’s a citizen, or somebody visiting from Kosovo) had a gun…the US Soldiers didn’t.

Blah Blah about the likely fact that this asshole was a Muslim extremist.

A person in the touchy-feely squishy European Police state had a gun and used it for murder, and our soldiers had NOTHING.

Gun control doesn’t work, and we should NOT be disarming vetted and trained good-guys no matter WHERE they are.

Great News Spot

So Robb Allen did a News interview and did a damn good job.

I must say, it hasn’t come up in the courts yet, as Heller and McDonald are just cases to KEEP arms…but as we know the right extends to keep AND to BEAR arms.

Now I would say places like Texas and Florida that ban open carry, and places like Wisconsin that ban concealed carry should be looked at in practical senses. When its 120 and humid do you REALLY want to throw on a concealment garment, and wear a holster that presses leather and gun against your sweaty skin? And of course in Wisconsin where its -15 and blowing, open carry is essentially impossible.

And of course just like we’ve all flashed a little butt-crack, or tummy, or maybe even more severe wardrobe malfunctions, accidental non-threatening exposure of a firearm to somebody who carries every day becomes a reality on a long-enough time-line. That’s simply a non-crime and shouldn’t be treated as such.

And as people who open carry let us all know…its no big deal.
