The Face of Gun Control

On one side of the coin you have me. Mild Mannered American with a wife, a house, a job, and a love of firearms. Not only do I like to collect them, but I also understand their value in a free society and as safety devices.

I happen to live in Massachusetts, which means I need to keep up with my permits, pay extra fees to remain legal, keep lots of paperwork on file of my firearms, as well as if I want to buy or sell guns. I need to keep abreast with the volumes of bizarre laws written by ignorant people who simply don’t like guns, also need to keep abreast with activities that are 100% legal, but might encourage a police chief to revoke your permit for “Bad Judgment” (Open carry is probably the best example of this). I also must keep abreast on all the laws being proposed to FURTHER restrict my hobby and lifestyle, and I am a member of The Massachusetts Gun Owner’s Action Legue as well as the NRA.

For several years I lived the life of a man who was very competent with a firearm, owned a lot of firearms and shot very regularly, and was NOT allowed to carry a firearm lawfully because I lived in a town that only issued restricted permits. My permit said “License to Carry Firearms” on the top and “TARGET AND HUNTING ONLY” in the middle. My wife went to the Police station one day and asked if she could get her permit. She was treated so rudely by the police officers at the desk she walked away without even taking an application.

When I do go buy a firearm, be it for my collection, for sport, or for personal defense I need to pick through Approved Roster Guns as well as choose Politically Correct Rifles if a gun I own eats from a magazine that holds more than 10 I need to make sure the magazine was made before 1994. If a gun I want eats from a magazine that holds more than 10 and was made AFTER 1994 (Like the S&W M&P9 which I really want to own) I may NEVER own a “Real” magazine for that gun. All of my guns are registered with the state so that if some law is ever passed where my guns become illegal the police can come to my door and demand the contraband by make, model, and serial number.

I have spent literally HUNDREDS of dollars on gun cabinets, and locks so I may keep my guns in full compliance with the law. When my armory flooded this spring I’ll just say I had to resort to some VERY creative (But as far as I can tell 100% legal) means to secure my collection until everything was dry.

I do this not just because I respect the rule of law in this country, but also because I love my collection of firearms, and I value the protections they grant, and I know a single infraction could completely strip me of my collection.

On the other side of the coin we have This

Lakeisha Gadson was acquitted yesterday of involuntary manslaughter in the death of her 8-year-old son, Liquarry Jefferson, who was accidentally shot three years ago by his 7-year-old cousin with a handgun the boys found stashed in a bedroom of her Dorchester apartment.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury also found Gadson not guilty of child endangerment, possession of a firearm, and improper storage of a firearm.

The gun belonged to a minor-child brother who is a known drug dealer. Mom’s lovers and baby-daddies as a rule are gang members, and several of them are in prison right now. When police arrived on the scene she made up a story about a masked gunman who shot the young boy to mislead them away from her and her family’s criminal behavior. Nobody has any permits or safety training, the “owner” of the gun is of illegal age, the gun is most likely stolen property and was not registered. And of course we have the biggest issue of a loaded gun being left in an area where young children have full access to. (not to mention drugs and other weapons), and what do we get for all these violations? An Acquittal!

Good work Massachusetts! Good work gun-grabbers! If anybody tells you gun laws are around for ANY reason other to discourage and inconvenience lawful gun owners, they are LYING!

QC

When I first got my C&R FFL I found a distributer selling Indian Enfield 2A rifles for a good price, so I snapped one up. Overall I fell I got what I paid for . Its an accurate rifle and it works, but the action is sloppy, the sights are microscopic (and on a mile-long rifle damn-near impossible to use), and the “Finish” appears to be black Exterior Paint.

It appears the Quality Control at the Ishapore factory haven’t gotten much better in recent years.

Oh Wow

There’s been a lot of talk of the death of Ted Stevens Honestly I feel about the same as Robb does

Still this rant (and the Meme it spawned) was of great importance to me!

Again, Being a Gunnie is FUN!

Thanks to Mrs. Mopar for making such a great video.

Also note the HUGE amount of NFA items that show up at the Annual NE Bloggershoot. Short Barrel Shotguns, Full-auto, Suppressors Galore, and this year a 57mm Recoilless rifle! And notice how big the smiles are!

We also had shooters of all ages from gray hair and wrinkles, to Grade School. And the worst injury was somebody picking up an old nail in the foot!

Shooting is FUN!

Did He Sparkle?

A Gim Scene makes today’s “Gun Death?”

Bail has been denied for a 42-year-old central Florida man accused of stabbing a friend to death and then drinking his blood.

There is an actual Condition known as Renfield’s syndrome where a killer feels compelled to drink their victim’s blood.

You’ll note there is no mention if Mr. Lopez Sparkled in the sunlight…or burned to dust. But you will note that “Vampires” have little need for guns, so their horrific acts will never count as “Gun Death”.

Whale Frenzy

Amazing footage, especially neat how dopey they get when satiated with whale flesh. Still the guy who clambers onto the carcass is a MORON! the Corpse could deflate and sink, or could flip…and with that many feeding sharks of that size, death would be pretty much guaranteed.

On a side note, I never knew the proper pronunciation of “Bryde’s Whale” is BROO-dÉ™

Great Site!

When I launched the spring for my Jennings J-22 Bob tipped me off about Numrich Gun Parts

I quickly ordered up TWO (so I can launch another one and not sweat it) mainsprings (Or “Striker Springs” as the catalog calls it, FYI pet peeve, in the Brownells catalog lists all sorts of 1911 mainspring housings…. but the spring that is housed within the unit are listed as “1911 Hammer Spring”. WTF? The spring that discharges the cartridge is a MAIN SPRING, don’t muddy the water!!)

I also ordered a magazine for my Colt 1908 .25 because the 90+ year old one I have is showing its age, and I’d like to put it out to pasture to preserve it. All items were had for reasonable price and shipping, and arrived in good time on my door. Also I was pleased to see the magazine appears to be a factory-original colt…tho of a vintage newer than my gun.

And of course as life goes, as I was putting my gun on this morning happened to be looking at JUST the right angle to spy the lost spring for my Jennings under some clutter on my reloading bench! Heh, well I’m glad to have TWO spares now, rather than just one!

Going out with a BANG

A lot of people are taking about this story.

The passenger apparently struck the flight attendant in the head while removing a bag. Upset, Slater asked for an apology, and instead, the passenger told Slater off.

Slater then got on the plane’s public address system and announced:

“To the passenger who called me a ‘m***** f*****,’ f*** you!”

He then reportedly said, “I’ve been in the business 28 years. That’s it. I’m done.”

In an escape fit for the movies, Slater opened an exit door and inflated the plane’s evacuation slide, grabbed two beers, and simply slid away . . . leaving the passengers (and his career) behind.

Slater then left the airport and headed to his home in the Belle Harbor section of Queens.

Interesting guy, and I think we all have heard similar stories of somebody leaving a job with a bang. I will note the use of the Emergency slide, and the commandeering of beers makes this a big winner!

A guy I worked with worked in an upscale restaurant in Portland Maine. He was on the kitchen staff, and everybody was supplied a uniform. Well he got in a discussion about something with his boss…that turned into an argument. An Argument that spilled out into the dining room. An argument that ended with my friend screaming “F**K You, I Quit!” (in newspaper parlance). His Boss, not one to be outdone demanded that he return the uniform by tomorrow or its value would be deducted from his final paycheck.

My friend simply said “Why Wait?” and stripped to his boxer shorts in the middle of a fancy dining room and tossed the uniform on the floor…and walked home in his undies.

Good story, but it didn’t have this ending:

Authorities tracked him down and descended upon him with what neighbors call “the full force of the New York City Police Department.”

“They were all over the place,” the neighbor said. “SWAT teams, it looked like, there were helicopters, everything.”

Seriously? I mean I understand that my friend’s indecent walk home likely only hurt his employment options, pulling the emergency slide on a plane and walking out across an airport likely violated a few laws which should probably be answered to.

But a SWAT team and a helicopter? This smacks of budget justifications to me!

Rough Night

We’ve all had rough nights, but something tells me few among us have had nights this rough:

Wow

That’s the former head of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, who got blotto drunk and smashed his car, and was so hammered the police needed to OC Spray him, and he spent most of his arrest unconscious. Oh yeah it according to the police report he pee’d himself!

YIKES!
