Here it is, let’s go to work!
So to start this fisk I’m going to open with my thesis and we’ll see how much the data supports it.
Joe Biden, and the Democrat Party at large stands for the banning of ALL private firearms, leaving just police, military, and private security forces with arms. Also this is all in the name of government control and NOT public safety. Let’s see how far off I am!
Joe Biden knows that gun violence is a public health epidemic. Almost 40,000 people die as a result of firearm injuries every year in the United States, and many more are wounded. Some of these deaths and injuries are the result of mass shootings that make national headlines. Others are the result of daily acts of gun violence or suicides that may not make national headlines, but are just as devastating to the families and communities left behind.
So this opening statement is pure snake-oil, and is designed to build an argument on a base of lies. First up gun violence is NOT a “Public Health Epidemic”, it’s not a disease, it’s not a contagion, and it is simply a politically motivated subset of violence….which itself isn’t really an issue. When looking at the ACTUAL public health issues you see
Heart disease: 647,457
Cancer: 599,108
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 169,936
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 160,201
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 146,383
Alzheimer’s disease: 121,404
Diabetes: 83,564
Influenza and pneumonia: 55,672
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 50,633
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 47,173
the last one is Suicide… which Biden mentions, and that is a big factor, but note he quotes “40,000 gun deaths”, but CDC cites 47,000 suicides. That’s because around Half of “Gun Deaths” are Suicide, and furthermore half the suicides that happen in the US use a firearm. When you look at more detailed numbers (PDF) Murder and Homicide really don’t even get into the numbers. Also can we note the irony of Joe Biden calling “Gun Violence” a public health crisis, when the numbers are a THIRD of Alzheimer’s related deaths….a disease many speculate the former vice president may be suffering from.
Now to touch a bit more on suicide, anti-gunners LOVE it because A) it pads the numbers up and B)Americans really “Prefer” a firearm for suicide (technically American MEN prefer firearms), and so they can claim that restricting firearm ownership overall (note how well this fits with my thesis) it will lower suicide….and suicide is horrible, so who would be pro-suicide??
Except it won’t. Americans CHOOSE firearms for suicide because we HAVE firearms. FIREARMS DO NOT CAUSE SUICIDE!!! If that was true, we would be the most suicide ridden-nation by far, given that we are by far the most well-armed nation….except we aren’t, we’re right in the middle.
Now all of that on suicide talk is good information, but I will note that I just spent 10x the amount of time and research than the Biden Campaign, or the Democrat Party at large has devoted to suicide. Again the Thesis states that public safety is NOT part of their agenda.
Oh yeah, and the Raw numbers, it’s more like 36-37,000 “Gun Deaths” with about 60% of those being the suicides the Biden Administration really doesn’t care about. It’s a minor quibble, but again you start the foundation on bad numbers, and you can really work the lies going up!
Joe Biden has taken on the National Rifle Association (NRA) on the national stage and won – twice. In 1993, he shepherded through Congress the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which established the background check system that has since kept more than 3 million firearms out of dangerous hands. In 1994, Biden – along with Senator Dianne Feinstein – secured the passage of 10-year bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. As president, Joe Biden will defeat the NRA again.
Hooray, Joe Helped! Really this is resume-padding, since he really wasn’t instrumental in those anti-gun bills, he just supported them. That being said, it shows that he wants to appear MORE anti-gun rather than less. Also that bit about the Brady bills stopping 3 million gun sales…it’s crap!
Joe Biden also knows how to make progress on reducing gun violence using executive action. After the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, President Obama tasked Vice President Biden with developing both legislative proposals and executive actions to make our communities safer. As a result of this effort, the Obama-Biden Administration took more than two dozen actions, including narrowing the so-called “gun show loophole,” increasing the number of records in the background check system, and expanding funding for mental health services.
All of these things either didn’t happen, or were reversed by President Trump….so yeah, Uncle Joe wants a trophy for his failures!
It’s within our grasp to end our gun violence epidemic and respect the Second Amendment, which is limited. As president, Biden will pursue constitutional, common-sense gun safety policies. Biden will:
here it comes. Also a new lie, not only will these actions “end gun violence” (they won’t) but they will “Respect the Second Amendment” and be “constitutional” (nope!)
Hold gun manufacturers accountable. In 2005, then-Senator Biden voted against the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, but gun manufacturers successfully lobbied Congress to secure its passage. This law protects these manufacturers from being held civilly liable for their products – a protection granted to no other industry. Biden will prioritize repealing this protection.
He’s talking about ending the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) which was a reaction to the Clinton Administration suing gun companies for the criminal use of their product. Not only was this an argument unique to guns (for example we don’t sue either auto companies or alcohol companies for the crime of drunk driving), but it was a tactic that NEVER claimed a victory. Either the gun companies settled out of court, OR the case was dismissed….but either way the nature of these lawsuits it cost far less to FILE the suits than it did to dismiss them, or to make a settlement, so they were causing gun companies to hemorrhage massive amounts of money fighting frivolous suits. If allowed to happen on a larger scale it could bankrupt gun companies, and dissuade innovators from starting a company. When you note that SIG Sauer is leaving Germany (but is still running strong in New Hampshire) this also ties into the Thesis that this will ban all Arms in America. Note SIG has a factory in New Hampshire because it’s MUCH easier to build guns in the United States for sale in the United States rather than import them, as our import stand are VERY strict, so push out or bankrupt all the American gun makers, and the supply of guns in American hands will VERY quickly dry up…especially if you couple it with some of these other proposals! I Wrote more on PLCAA here
As president, Biden will: Get weapons of war off our streets. The bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines that Biden, along with Senator Feinstein, secured in 1994 reduced the lethality of mass shootings. But, in order to secure the passage of the bans, they had to agree to a 10-year sunset provision and when the time came, the Bush Administration failed to extend them.
total nonsense! “Mass Shootings” really weren’t a thing until AFTER Columbine, which happened in 1999, and violent crime rate has been declining SINCE the Assault Weapons ban was passed, and was not effected by the sunset. In fact it was the Assault Weapons ban that spurred interest in Concealed carry, and actually OWNING semi-auto rifles.
Ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Federal law prevents hunters from hunting migratory game birds with more than three shells in their shotgun. That means our federal law does more to protect ducks than children. It’s wrong. Joe Biden will enact legislation to once again ban assault weapons. This time, the bans will be designed based on lessons learned from the 1994 bans. For example, the ban on assault weapons will be designed to prevent manufacturers from circumventing the law by making minor changes that don’t limit the weapon’s lethality. While working to pass this legislation, Biden will also use his executive authority to ban the importation of assault weapons.
Ok so the Migratory Bird Treaty Act is a CONSERVATION effort. It’s written so that hunters won’t over-harvest bird species so there will be game birds for future generations. Is Joe saying he wants to preserve criminals for future generations? Given that Uncle Joe is a sexual predator, maybe that answer is “Yes”.
As for making the definition of “Assault Weapon” so it can’t be “Circumvented” (I would argue, complied with), there lies the terror. See when the anti-gunners talk about “Weapons of War” (Which BTW they aren’t weapons of war, and often ACTUAL weapons of war, like combat shotguns, and bolt-action sniper rifles don’t count) they generally avoid actually TALKING about how they would define them. And when laws are actually in place, we have things like Massachusetts where most guns are illegal, or Canada where even sporting guns are now illegal. Really I think the guns they WANT to ban is ALL OF THEM, but they just have a hard time slicing the pie.
Regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act. Currently, the National Firearms Act requires individuals possessing machine-guns, silencers, and short-barreled rifles to undergo a background check and register those weapons with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Due to these requirements, such weapons are rarely used in crimes. As president, Biden will pursue legislation to regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act.
Again note, he’s not DEFINING what makes an “Assault Weapon” and Assault weapon, but that he’s going to put it under the NFA.
uy back the assault weapons and high-capacity magazines already in our communities. Biden will also institute a program to buy back weapons of war currently on our streets. This will give individuals who now possess assault weapons or high-capacity magazines two options: sell the weapons to the government, or register them under the National Firearms Act.
So like in Canada, he’s going to raise your taxes to pay you less than your gun is worth…and make the anti-gun people subsidies this scam!!!! I think this is a policy everybody will love!
Reduce stockpiling of weapons. In order to reduce the stockpiling of firearms, Biden supports legislation restricting the number of firearms an individual may purchase per month to one.
If you buy 12 guns a year, you’re doing pretty good. This is just a stupid law, it doesn’t PREVENT anybody from stockpiling weapons (and who cares? How many guns can you actually use at once?
And honestly in two years you’ll have 24 guns, and in three you’ll have 36…meanwhile criminals seem to get by just fine with just one that they didn’t legally buy in the first place, and I can’t think of a spree killing where the killer used more than two….
So again, just a way to chill lawful gun owners, while doing NOTHING for public safety.
Keep guns out of dangerous hands. The federal background check system (the National Instant Criminal Background Check System) is one of the best tools we have to prevent gun violence, but it’s only effective when it’s used. Biden will enact universal background check legislation and close other loopholes that allow people who should be prohibited from purchasing firearms from making those purchases.
I already linked how the Brady Background check is really a sham of a law, and NOBODY is really concerned about it for anything but being an inconvenience to gun owners. But UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND checks is simply a backdoor registration of firearms. See when a gun is made, the manufacturer needs to document that, and then they can ONLY transfer the gun to a licensed dealer, frequently that’s a wholesaler, who only transfers to other dealers, which are your local gun shops. Then the shop can sell to a customer, but only with a background check….each of these steps is documented…until the gun is in private hands, then it can freely change hands without paperwork, which means that every gun owner has plausible deniability in the face of a mass confiscation. Oh and Joe just mentioned registering “Assault Weapons” under the NFA….background checks don’t save lives, nor do they catch criminals….why would Joe want them so bad…..Again see the Thesis!
Require background checks for all gun sales. Today, an estimated 1 in 5 firearms are sold or transferred without a background check. Biden will enact universal background check legislation, requiring a background check for all gun sales with very limited exceptions, such as gifts between close family members. This will close the so-called “gun show and online sales loophole” that the Obama-Biden Administration narrowed, but which cannot be fully closed by executive action alone.
So first up his statement about guns sold without a background check is bullshit, and really the rest is crap too. He wants UBC because he wants a registry so he can confiscate guns, or lock up people who can’t present a gun for confiscation.
Close other loopholes in the federal background check system. In addition to closing the “boyfriend loophole”
This is such bullshit they don’t even define it. It’s a perceived gap in the Lautenberg Amendment where people convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence are prohibited people. The Amendment doesn’t apply to people who are in an intimate relationship but NOT cohabitating. Look I won’t defend abuse, but really what this law says is that if you commit a minor assault on a domestic partner you are a prohibited person who is barred from exercising your 2nd Amendment Rights for LIFE….but if you commit the same assault against a total stranger…..no problem!
Does that make ANY sense to you? The Lautenberg Amendment is bullshit and should be repealed! Violent crime should be punished, but the actions are important, not the relationship.
Reinstate the Obama-Biden policy to keep guns out of the hands of certain people unable to manage their affairs for mental reasons, which President Trump reversed. In 2016, the Obama-Biden Administration finalized a rule to make sure the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends to the background check system records that it holds of individuals who are prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms because they have been adjudicated by the SSA as unable to manage their affairs for mental reasons.
Nope, this order declared anybody who designated a person access to their Social Security Check for financial management was now declared by President Obama “Mentally Ill”. So if your accountant, or spouse, or adult children manage your finances you are “Mentally Ill” under Biden…..I wonder if Biden has people managing his money.
Close the “hate crime loophole.” Biden will enact legislation prohibiting an individual “who has been convicted of a misdemeanor hate crime, or received an enhanced sentence for a misdemeanor because of hate or bias in its commission” from purchasing or possessing a firearm.
Defined by who? Groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center? And again this will be under the administration of a men who is a habitual sexual assaulter, but thinks he should still be President….no thanks!
Close the “Charleston loophole.” The Charleston loophole allows people to complete a firearms purchase if their background check is not completed within three business days. Biden supports the proposal in the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2019, which extends the timeline from three to 10 business days. Biden will also direct the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to put on his desk within his first 100 days as president a report detailing the cases in which background checks are not completed within 10 business days and steps the federal government can take to reduce or eliminate this occurrence.
Ironically the killer in Charleston had his gun for over a MONTH before he went shooting…..they were NEVER going to review his file, it only got noticed AFTER he was arrested. This is the reason for the forced proceed, without it, an anti-gun administrator could defund or shut down the review department, and simply being SUSPECTED of a crime, or having a name similar to a criminal would force you to share their fate. The bottom line is 3 days should be enough, and the way we run things now, 10 days isn’t even close.
Close the “fugitive from justice” loophole created by the Trump Administration. Because of actions by the Trump Administration, records of almost 500,000 fugitives from justice who are prohibited from purchasing firearms were deleted from the background check system. The Biden Administration will restore these records, and enact legislation to make clear that people facing arrest warrants are prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms.
I had to look this up. Apparently Trump purged the warrants for arrests from the NICS if the target of the warrant hadn’t crossed state lines. I really don’t much care either way about this one as it’s a minor point. On one hand, it’s quickly resolved, turn yourself in and sort out the issue behind the warrant. On the other hand, we ARE talking about people who aren’t even CHARGED with a crime, let alone convicted. I will also note that I was the subject of an arrest warrant for TWO years. I’ve told the story before, but the short version was I was the subject of a warrant for 2 years because A) I was unaware of it, B) The issuing police force didn’t care enough to even pick up the phone and call me, and C) The warrant was all because of a clerical error and never should have been issued in the first place. On one hand denying me a firearm for that is garbage, on the other hand it would have notified me that there was an issue so I could have sorted it out earlier, and if I had been wanted for a SERIOUS crime it might help notify police. I have mixed feeling, but I know however Joe Biden will handle it it would likely be bad.
End the online sale of firearms and ammunitions. Biden will enact legislation to prohibit all online sales of firearms, ammunition, kits, and gun parts.
Online sale of guns isn’t a huge deal, as unless it’s a local classified ad, it will require a background check, and if it’s a personal sale, why does it matter if you found the listing on a website, or a flea market, yard sale, or word-of-mouth? It SOUNDS scary, but in reality it’s pretty stupid. Ending the sale of Ammunition? Why? If you don’t have a gun who cares? If you DO have a gun what’s the problem? PARTS is the scary bit, because like “Assault Weapon” what is a “gun part”? Could be anything, and then if you need parts for a gun, how do you get them? What if you have an old or rare gun? And again, if you have an AR-15 hand guard, but no AR-15, who cares??? People upgrade airsoft guns with live gun parts, where is the friggin problem?
And “Kits”, I assume he means build kits…..what is a “kit” now?
Create an effective program to ensure individuals who become prohibited from possessing firearms relinquish their weapons.
He seems to be doing a great job at trying to round up all the guns…..yeah but he only cares about prohibited persons, that’s why his entire career the Brady Background system has been a joke!
Incentivize state “extreme risk” laws.
This is Red Flag laws, besides the obvious angles for abuse, at its core a red-flag law identifies a dangerous person, and locks up their guns while leaving them free….hate these laws, they are simply anti-gun people looking for any angle of attack!
Give states incentives to set up gun licensing programs.
Poll tax. The Right to Keep and Bear arms shall not be infringed, requiring a permit to exercise a right is against the constitution Mr. Biden claimed to want to support. Never mind he’s against showing an ID to avoid voter fraud, it shows that he’s not doing this for moral reasons.
Adequately fund the background check system.
Or we could just abolish it….
ADDRESSING THE DEADLY COMBINATION OF GUNS AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
The statistics tell a devastating and overwhelming story. The likelihood that a woman in a domestic violence situation will be killed increases by a factor of five if a gun is nearby. Half of mass shootings involve an individual shooting a family member or former intimate partner. This deadly connection tragically impacts children as well: 86% of children killed in shootings with four or more victims were involved in domestic or family violence.
This is simply garbage in garbage out. Females are already unlikely to be victims of murder so now you are sampling a very small number for a rare occurrence, the results become statistical noise. Same with mass shootings, they are VERY rare, so really we’re now just dividing up a small pool of victims of an unlikely crime. Is a child more likely to be murder with 3 or more of their family members by a deranged parent, or be a victim of a mass shooting by a stranger? Answer: Neither!
Biden recognizes that the gun violence and domestic violence epidemics are linked and cannot be solved in isolation.
hence why he’s only focusing on guns….
Establish a new Task Force on Online Harassment and Abuse to focus on the connection between mass shootings, online harassment, extremism, and violence against women.
Again, Defined by who? I think we’ve seen across the board wide swaths of asymmetrical censorship, this would ONLY make it worse.
Expand the use of evidence-based lethality assessments by law enforcement in cases of domestic violence. Lethality assessments, sometimes called “risk” or “danger” assessments, are a proven strategy to help law enforcement officers identify domestic violence survivors who are at high risk of being killed by their abusers.
I have no problem with this if it could be properly implemented….I also have no faith that that could EVER happen.
Make sure firearm owners take on the responsibility of ensuring their weapons are used safely.
This is where the clown shoes go on!
Put America on the path to ensuring that 100% of firearms sold in America are smart guns.
So first up “Smart Guns” don’t exist. The closest anybody claims to have gotten is the Armatix P1, which is a pistol with an RFID lock on it. It’s a simple lock-and-key system with batteries to make it more expensive and less reliable. Meanwhile simple mechanical locks exist and can be bought and sold easily, and don’t need to be integral with the gun. When it comes to actual “Smart” gun that use biometrics to unlock, It’s also dumb, because #1 will it work when you need it? I can’t unlock my phone if my hands are wet, my wife has an iphone with facial recognition, since she has to wear a mask in public it doesn’t work. But also some of my guns are home defense, multiple people have access to them, and I have handed a loaded gun to a trusted friend when I was concerned about safety, further 90% of my guns are used, so they were owned before, and I’m unaware of guns that leave the factory without test firing. So yeah, either “Smart guns” make that all impossible….or there are enough backdoors and exceptions to make them nearly worthless.
Never mind every “Smart Gun” I’ve seen has been made by tech geeks with a passing interest in firearms. It’s generally good bio metrics, but make a bad gun, and generally reliability isn’t what modern gun owners would accept.
Hold adults accountable for giving minors access to firearms. Biden supports legislation holding adults criminally and civilly liable for directly or negligently giving a minor access to a firearm, regardless of whether the minor actually gains possession of the firearm.
I’m reading that as it would make it a crime to teach minors how to shoot….well isn’t that the most dangerous thing you can do! Plus the whole bit on a minor “having Access” but not even getting the gun. So it would be a crime to accidentally leaving your safe unlocked? Or a crime if your child simply knows your combination? Hell if you kid learns how to pick locks they can defeat most securing systems.
This is garbage!
Require gun owners to safely store their weapons. Biden will pass legislation requiring firearm owners to store weapons safely in their homes.
Remember how Biden said he would uphold the constitution and the Second Amendment….well this is a direct violation!
Empower law enforcement to effectively enforce our gun laws.
Joe Biden became a US Senator in 1973, in all this time gun laws have been mostly unenforced, why now?
Prioritize prosecution of straw purchasers.
Already a crime, and has been since 1968….why now?
Notify law enforcement when a potential firearms purchaser fails a background check.
1993….why now?
Require firearms owners to report if their weapon is lost or stolen.
This is really dumb because if somebody has their property stolen, they’re going to report it when they find out. If they are having their gun “Stolen” because they are doing something illegal, like lending it to a felon or selling it illegally, then they aren’t going to report it no matter what the law says, and it’s still up to law enforcement to figure out what has transpired.
Stop “ghost guns.” One way people who cannot legally obtain a gun may gain access to a weapon is by assembling a one on their own, either by buying a kit of disassembled gun parts or 3D printing a working firearm. Biden will stop the proliferation of these so-called “ghost guns” by passing legislation requiring that purchasers of gun kits or 3D printing code pass a federal background check. Additionally, Biden will ensure that the authority for firearms exports stays with the State Department, and if needed reverse a proposed rule by President Trump. This will ensure the State Department continues to block the code used to 3D print firearms from being made available on the Internet.
I just showed a video on how to make an AR-15 our of plywood. I could also post a link to the Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee sex tape that was stolen from their house. Once information is out there, you can’t get it back, and EVERYTHING is a “Ghost Gun”, which also means nothing is!
Reform, fund, and empower the U.S. Justice Department to enforce our gun laws. Biden will direct his Attorney General to deliver to him within his first 100 days a set of recommendations for restructuring the ATF and related Justice Department agencies to most effectively enforce our gun laws. Biden will then work to secure sufficient funds for the Justice Department to effectively enforce our existing gun laws, increase the frequency of inspections of firearms dealers, and repeal riders that get in the way of that work.
Again, why now? You’ve never made enforcing existing gun laws a priority in your long career, why would anybody think now you’re going to care?
Direct the ATF to issue an annual report on firearms trafficking. This report will provide officials with critical information to better identify strategies for curbing firearms trafficking.
This information already exists, it isn’t as interesting as you might think. There really isn’t much arms trafficking, just criminals selling guns between each other. Unless we’re talking about the Obama Administration , OUCH Irony there!
TACKLE URBAN GUN VIOLENCE WITH TARGETED, EVIDENCE-BASED COMMUNITY INTERVENTIONS
Dedicate the brightest scientific minds to solving the gun violence public health epidemic.
It isn’t an epidemic, and it isn’t public health, but THEN he says THIS:
Prohibit the use of federal funds to arm or train educators to discharge firearms. We should be passing rational gun laws, not requiring educators who already have too much on their plates to also protect the safety of their students. Biden supports barring states from using federal dollars to arm or train educators to discharge firearms.
Whatever you do, restrict safety training! Yeah you’re REAL concerned about public health!
Address the epidemic of suicides by firearms.
Already covered, it’s bullshit, we commit suicide by gun as Americans, if we banned ALL the guns (again remember my Thesis statement!) it likely wouldn’t change our suicide rate, as our suicides are on par with dozens of countries that are effectively disarmed, but it would reduce “Gun Suicide”, which is pointless, and it would ban guns, which is the actual goal.
SUPPORTING SURVIVORS OF VIOLENCE AND THEIR COMMUNITIES
Violence causes ripples of trauma throughout our communities, impacting not just the victims of violence but also their communities and first responders. Fear of school shootings is having a noticeable impact on the mental health of Gen Z. Intimate partner violence is linked to depression, post-traumatic stress, and other mental health challenges among survivors. And, this trauma can be intergenerational. Science now shows that young children who witness violence – including in their home – literally alters the parts of their brains that affect “reasoning, planning, and behavioral control.”
I’m fine with this if properly implemented, I have zero faith this could be done, or that the Biden Administration cares.
We need to reduce violence to prevent trauma from happening in the first place. But we also must treat the resulting trauma as a serious crisis in its own right.
This whole section has nothing to do with guns, so it isn’t really on scope with this. Still again I would be fine with this if properly implemented, I have zero faith this could be done, or that the Biden Administration cares, further if they DO focus only on guns, it will guarantee that this would be ineffective.
So there you have it. What do you think? Do you think Uncle Joe cares about public health or community safety? Do you think I’m off base thinking he wants massive confiscation of lawfully held arms? Do you think Uncle Joe respects the US Constitution?
