Illegal Drugs as Medical Treatment

Neat post:

Of course I don’t agree with him about making these drugs legal. Not because I want people tripping their balls off, or shooting heroin on their front porch, but because with the “War On Drugs” we get wonderful side-effects like the DEA, SWAT teams doing “no-knock raids”, Street Gangs, explosive meth labs, and countries taken over by drug cartels.

Sorry, I’ll take my chances with people doing more drugs if that other shit gets to go away.

“Gun Death” “Columbine Style”

What most people forget is the Columbine Attack was actually a failed bomb attack, rather than a successful gun attack.

Oregon police said over the weekend that they stopped a Columbine-style plot against an Albany-area high school, and one student is in custody after authorities claim they found pipe bombs, napalm and other homemade explosives in his home.

Acting on a tip, police searched the home of West Albany High School student Grant Acord on Thursday, according to ABC News. Inside the home, police say they found a secret compartment where he stored six homemade explosive devices and other bomb-making materials.

You won’t see any of the antis talking about this because no guns were part of the plan….of course the bombs (depending on construction) could be vastly more deadly.

A Strange and Interesting Classic

A few years ago I asked Lord Vector if he’d ever seen the Super Mario Brothers Movie, he said he hadn’t, but noted that all he had heard was it was horrible.

Now I won’t say that wasn’t true, but what I will say is I find this film to be deeply enjoyable, given that A) You consume adult beverages while watching it, and B) You make note that ANY resemblance to a series of video games is purely coincidental.

Its a great cast with a very VERY bizarre story, set design, and direction. Anything that resembles a video game is a direct detractor, and the best parts are the bits that are WAYYYY off the reservation.

Vector found that my viewing methods do indeed unlock the majesty of the film, so much that he sent me this article!

Super Mario Bros., theatrically released May 28, 1993. Directed by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel (creators of Max Headroom); starring Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, and Dennis Hopper.

20 years? Jesus, where did the time go?

He was also deeply amused by this bit, as was I:

The cast was basically in revolt. The actors would shove each day’s new pages aside unread. Hoskins and Leguizamo swilled scotch together between takes, leading to an on-set accident in which Leguizamo drunkenly crashed a truck and Hoskins broke his hand. By the time Stayton got there, the disgruntled performers had abandoned any effort to put on a happy face. When Stayton told Hopper the directors declined to speak to him for the story, the actor responded, “That’s the only intelligent thing I’ve heard that they’ve really actually done.”

So Leguizamo and Hoskins were both drunk during filming! That also happens to be the best way to watch the film as well!

For those interested in a trip into the bizarre, the whole film can be watched here:

Enjoy!!!

“Gun Death” Brawl

No guns, so maybe it isn’t brutal?

One man is dead and another is in the hospital battling for his life after they got into a fight when one of them rode his motorcycle across the other’s front yard in Pasadena early Wednesday morning….Mitchell said at about 4:30 a.m. the motorcyclist came home from work and rode across his neighbor’s yard. The neighbor saw him and went outside. The two argued. Then the motorcyclist pulled out knife and stabbed the other man. They fought and the wounded man choked the motorcyclist, who died. His name has not been released.

Actually sounds like legitimate self-defense on the side of the strangler. Still no matter how the chips fall, no “Gun Death” so no worries!

Supressed Mouse Guns

I have a soft spot for Mouse Guns, and a soft spot for suppressors. SUPER COMBO!!!111!!

I posted this one before, but I might as well post it again:

Part of me is glad suppressors are illegal in Massachusetts, because otherwise there wouldn’t be any money in my bank account!

Card Tricks

Found this video series of Ricky Jay doing his card-sharp mastery:

I love when people have mastered the arts of the dishonest and turn around into honest showmanship!

Ideal Gun Shop

Jay beat me too it, and you can read it here. Still friend and excellent holster-maker Dennis of Dragon Leatherworks is taking his online gun and holster business to a brick-and-mortar store, and since he’s essentially starting from scratch in inventory, he asked Jay and myself what we like to see in a good shop.

Jay’s post has a number of great things, one I hadn’t through of is basic armorer tools. I don’t own a bushing wrench for my 1911s because my thumb works fine…but if one was at my local shop, I can’t see why that WOULDN’T make its way into my order. Same with brass punch kits, AR-15 tools, M1911 Tools, Glock tools, etc.

Also from my personal interests I really dig new neat guns…but also old classics. The new stuff is pretty easy to get a hold of, and constantly being detailed in shooting mags as well as blogs. Still the old classics are AWESOME, and if you have some capital buying a few crates of Mosins at bulk rates, or say Walther P1/P38 pistols, or the various Hi-Power clones from the various countries that adopted them and got licenses to manufacture the gun.

Many of these pieces have historical significance, and also will price below many new and used modern guns. I see that as nothing but win-win. Hell my first Mosin was simply because I wanted a bolt-action rifle that was cheap to own, and cheap to shoot. I didn’t know crap about the history of the guns, or even that the M44 I bought was a variant of the M1891 and M91/30 rifle. Still with that cheap shooter in hand I suddenly wanted MORE.

Also remember that people might buy one gun a year, or even 2-3 guns in a LIFETIME. Still those people will be coming into the shop to buy ammo, cleaning supplies, magazines, and ear protection.

That’s the stuff that keeps me darkening the door of my favorite shop. They have a wide selection of all the stuff I burn through on trips to the range. What helps them more is every time I come in for some targets, or a box of ammo, or a bottle of solvent is I end up looking at the gun cases, and sometimes a box of .22 turns into a box of .22 AND a new pistol or rifle for my collection.

So add on what interests you, or what you like about YOUR shop, and best of luck to Dennis.

A Nice History of Climate

Pretty solid story here:

Still I’m a bit disappointed that in the end he does (albeit briefly) acknowledge Dr. Mann’s involvement in “Climategate”, he didn’t really give any observations on WHY Climategate happened, and therefor why further research SHOULD be trusted when Mann’s research was junk.

I might argue that its a Science show, not a political talk show…still he did get REALLY political at the end without making the least bit of a nod to the controversy and corruption that surrounds this.

At this stage in the game, weather its true or not, any researcher who writes a paper showing that man-made carbon emissions are NOT effecting climate is killing their grant funding…much the same way the Marine Biologists and regulatory scientists at NMFS were tied to findings of declining fish stocks, because their agency exists to regulate the fishing industry, and if there isn’t a need for regulation there isn’t a need for their jobs.

Nobody will tell their boss that their job is superfluous!
