Read the Fine Print!

When your gun maker tells you not to shoot +P ammo DON’T SHOOT +P AMMO!!

When I bought my PM45 I was fully prepared to start testing some standard-pressure .45 loads for it. Then I read they’re rated for +P, so I tried out a mag, expecting the recoil to be too much, and I’d have to test some standard-pressure loads.

Turned out it was awesome, so Federal HST 230gr +P .45s for all my carry guns.

Even then, I don’t shoot +P all the time, as it still beats up your gun!

Light Posting Again

Holidays are here, and this means spending time with family. I’ll be heading out after work to spend some time with mine who lives in Florida. Expect light posting.

Also means I’ll be missing ANOTHER episode of The Squirrel Report! Two weeks in a row with topics I wanted to pounce on!

Well its freezing out here, and its going to be in the high 70s down in Florida, so send your sympathy for my plight! 🙂

NYC and “Gun Availability”

This is something very common in urban areas with heavy gun control:

The same gun used in Monday’s point-blank assassination on a crowded Midtown street also sprayed a dozen rounds into a Queens home three years ago, cops said Tuesday.

This doesn’t mean the same guy did the driveby that did the hit the other day. It might be, but there have been many cases where one murderer is in prison while the gun he used killed again on the streets.

You see gang members don’t always have their own gun. Not only is supply and demand a factor, but also there are legal reasons. You see if a gang member is stopped, he’s likely a felon, so an altercation he might get out of, will likely turn into jail time for gun possession. So these guys steal a gun, then stash it in a public place and let their gang friends know where it is. Then it becomes a gangland version of a library book! They “Check it out” then go do some mayhem, then return the gun. This means other people can commit crimes with the gun, but also it can make law enforcement’s job harder. If they find where the gun is stashed, they have a hard time pinning it to a single suspect. They catch a suspect with the gun, and link it to a series of crimes, well the suspect might have an alibi for some of them, adding reasonable doubt to some of the more pliable jury members….possibly to the prosecutor, making him more willing to offer a plea.

And the gun supply can be damn slim, and yet the gang violence continues. So Gun control laws have a minimal effect on violent crime.

Of course we all know what the laws DO effect…lawful people defending their lives from the gangs.

I rest my case!

“Gun Death” TV Stunt

Pure Stupidity, and charges will be filed!

A magician from the United States said Monday he is getting medical treatment and pursuing legal action after the host of a TV show in the Dominican Republic set him on fire in an apparent stunt…Barazarte asked Houchin’s wife to pour the cologne into his cupped hands and told Bueno to pick up a lighter on the stage and light the fluid.

“At this point none of us hand any idea us had any idea what the host planned to do,” Houchin said. “We had no reason to suspect beforehand that he would perform a stunt. … We were filming a national TV spot — we assumed the host to be a professional presenter and therefore trusted him.”

When the liquid in his cupped hands caught fire, the host poured it on Houchin’s head and rubbed it into his face. The show never aired but an Iphone video taken by a member of the magician’s crew has circulated widely on the Internet, showing the American writhing in pain on the stage floor.

Hey but burning liquid isn’t a gun!

Interesting how dangerous naked flames can be!

Neat Rifle!

.300 AAC Blackout is a really cool gun, and I like how damned tiny this little rifle is!

Also love his statement about “how much recoil it don’t have”. The only time I’ve shot .300 AAC was in Wally’s full-auto carbine, and even in a crazy small and light rifle it was just as controllable in full-auto as any .223 gun. Compare that with my experience with shooting a full-auto AK-47, its impressively easy to handle!

Love that its an ideal gun for quiet hunting with subsonics. No action to cycle means its REALLY quiet!

Bizzare kinda “Gun Death”

So not really a “Gun Death?” Story, but worth noting. South Koreans believe that electric fans can suffocate you!

The genesis of this misconception is unclear. Some have speculated that the South Korean government created the idea of fan death as propaganda in order to curb the energy consumption of Korean households. This theory is based on the fact that reports of fan death first appeared in the 1970s. This coincided with the 1970s energy crisis, which led to a short supply and high prices of oil; it also coincided with the rule of President Park Chung-hee, who listed attaining a self-reliant economy and modernization as his top goals, as announced in his Five Year Economic development Plan…..”Fans cause hypothermia”

Hypothermia is abnormally low body temperature caused by inadequate thermoregulation in humans. As the metabolism slows down at night, one becomes more sensitive to temperature, and thus supposedly more prone to hypothermia. People who believe in this theory think that a fan operating in a closed room all night will lower the temperature of the room to the point of causing hypothermia.[4]

Empirical measurements show, however, that the fan does not cause the room temperature to drop; if anything, it should rise slightly because of friction and the heat output of the fan motor, but even this is negligible. Fans actually lower body temperature by increasing the convection around a person’s body so that heat flows into the air more easily, and by the latent heat of vaporization as perspiration evaporates from the body. However, there is no scientific study which indicates that this effect would be sufficient to cause hypothermia unless the temperature were already very low.
“Fans cause asphyxiation”

It is alleged that fans may cause asphyxiation in humans due to oxygen displacement and carbon dioxide intoxication.[4][5][6][7] In the process of human respiration, inhaled fresh air is exhaled with a lower concentration of oxygen gas (O2), and higher concentration of carbon dioxide gas (CO2), causing a gradual reduction of O2 and buildup of CO2 in a completely unventilated room.[8] Other indoor sources of carbon dioxide include burning fossil fuels, such as a gas-fueled water heater, and seepage through foundations in areas of high CO2 soil content.[9] Carbon dioxide is a colorless, odorless gas, and because it weighs 1.5 times more than normal air,[10] it tends to concentrate toward the floor,[7] depending on temperature and air currents. In South Korea, some people sleep on traditional floor mats called yos, while others prefer western-style beds, and floor vents may be absent in rooms equipped with radiant underfloor heating, called ondol.[11]

According to The Straight Dope website run by the Chicago Reader, asphyxiation is an unlikely cause of fan death because “few rooms are totally sealed, and the fan would tend to keep CO2 and other gases well mixed”.[5]

Straight up nutty! I work with a South Korean, and I’ll need to ask him if he’s heard of this.

“Brilliant” Reporting

A friend sent me this video;

Scuffles after right-to-work tent falls

Gotta love the reporter talking about how “Peaceful” the protest is as it turns into an angry violent mob around him.

Good rule of thumb, if “Progressives” are protesting, a riot is sure to happen!
