Dumb Zoning Laws

Ok this is just stupid!

A 7-year-old Connecticut girl will lose her 20-pound pet rabbit if North Haven officials get their way.

Zoning Enforcement Officer Arthur Hausman issued a cease-and-desist order to the Lidsky family two weeks ago, informing them that they were violating town zoning regulations because their property was smaller than the 2 acres required to keep rabbits and other types of livestock….In May, town officials inspected the property and asked Lidsky to take several actions, including removing the rabbit hutch, replacing missing siding on his house and repairing an unfinished addition.

Lidsky says he’s appealing Hausman’s order about the rabbit to the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals, but he’s willing to clean up his yard….”The situation with North Haven’s zoning is ridiculous,” she told the Register. “We’re not talking about a breeder or multiple rabbits. We’re talking about one pet bunny who is obviously beloved and well-cared for.”

I fail to see how much worse ONE large rabbit is than say 5-6 large-breed dogs. Also rabbits are pretty common pets, I know a ton of people who keep them, hell even my parents had a pet rabbit when they were first married. Also I can see zoning laws being an issue if they were raising rabbits for various reasons, but this is obviously a pet. Now a hutch does have some odor, and mess compared to a box-trained rabbit, but again, are dogs and cats any better?

Sounds like the family is a little lax about the presentation of their house, given the other citations, and this was just a nice below-the-belt hit for the city to let the citizen know who’s boss.

Classy!

Sidewalk Chalk and Jackboots

Seriously?

wo teens in suburban Philadelphia were cited for doodling on the street with chalk, police said.

The Doylestown Intelligencer reported Friday (http://bit.ly/P9IvKa ) that 18-year-old Connor Logan and a 17-year-old friend drew a whale and sea turtles in a parking lot.

Doylestown Police Chief James Donnelly said that although chalk washes off, the drawings are “an attempt at vandalism.”

The doodles might link the teens to chalk graffiti on buildings and businesses in town, Donnelly said.

Seriously? My Neighbor’s daughter LOVES sidewalk chalk, and frequently covers huge swaths of her driveway with doodles, and game boards like hopscotch. All it takes is a light rain and the drawings vanish. I guess I could see some minor charges if the kids were drawing obscenities on public or private property, but sea life? There is no way this is “Vandalism” as 30 seconds with a hose erases all traces, and on a public street, is this really a worry? If they’re obstructing traffic, fine, or if they’re loitering in a private or public parking lot, tell them to get lost. This is just jackbooted thuggery!

The Criminal Mindset

It seems that anti-gun people can only think like violent killers:

“I’m looking beyond gun control. That’s for the legislators to wrangle with,” Berkowitz, 59, said. “My hope is just that young people would understand just how terrible this violence is. When they use a gun against someone else, they ruin their lives too. It’s not worth it.”

A mentally insane violent killer can only frame guns from their own perspective. The Anti-Freedom lobby has the same mindset, they only see gun owners as violent killers. Meanwhile thousands of lives are SAVED (often without firing a shot) by guns every year.

Reading this drivel leaves me with one question: If one of Berkowitz’s victims had shot him dead, would the world really be a worse place?

“Gun Death” Pervert

Why don’t we register sex offenders like cars! Oh wait, we do!

A man on parole for trying to infect children with HIV nearly twenty years ago pulled a boy into a Portland restaurant bathroom over the weekend, attempted to sexually assault him and then stabbed him several times, police said.

The 10-year-old’s injuries from the attack Sunday were severe enough to require surgery, and officers said he would have died without immediate care.

Registration and legal restrictions did nothing to stop this…unless you only count “Gun death” then there was no crime at all!

Youtube is reading my mind! Jeff shows some love for the Vz 61!

Same his isn’t a full-auto variant. Transferable Vz 61s are VERY rare guns, and command high auction prices. I’m still trying to talk Wally into building a non-transferable one just so I can shoot one.

I have no idea why I like this gun so much, it has so-so ergonomics, its in a meager pistol caliber (tho there were variants in 9x18mm which is really appealing), and it really doesn’t seem to do anything particularly well, its a bulky crappy pistol, its an underpowered low-capacity SMG, and it isn’t much of a rifle.

I still want one, and if the NFA was to vanish tomorrow I’d buy one…and maybe a can for it too!

Serious Irony!

The anti-freedom people MUST be stupid! Look at this post from Joan Peterson of the Brady Campaign:

The NRA has profited from and taken advantage of the fears of Americans after mass shootings…We are better than this. We shouldn’t be having funerals like this on a regular basis.

Now I won’t Copy the hyperlinks, but Joan first claims the NRA is profiteering off of tragedies…then links to the Brady Campaign fundraising page in the next breath. A page the Brady Camp created soon after the Colorado shooting . Not only are they asking for money, but they’re asking for contact information so they can sell it!

Oh and to add insult to injury she keeps repeating lies in hopes that they come true:

This article written by Republican pollster Frank Luntz for the conservative Washington Post should be heeded by those who think the NRA and its’ minions don’t want sensible gun laws. Actually, NRA members want sensible gun laws. It’s their leadership and a few gun rights extremists that don’t appear to want anything to interfere with the agenda of fear and paranoia.

We talked about that Mayors Against Illegal Guns poll here, I think we all know that a group that doesn’t allow pro-gun comments on their websites, and only appear on slanted venues, they wouldn’t commission a poll if they weren’t assured it would make them look good….but the reality is the poll isn’t true. Politicians are avoiding gun control laws because they know its horrible unpopular, and places like Wal-Mart are selling Modern Sporting Rifles to their customers. There’s no evidence that supports Luntz’s poll as anything but a lie.

Hey but keep telling yourself that…hell Joan is still citing the Kellerman Study, despite even Kellerman himself wishing the world would forget about his little piece of junk science.

They are THAT tin eared, and that foolish! The truth is, gun owning Americans are the ones who are better!

Why Are We In Afganistan?

Stories like these frustrate me.

Officials say an Afghan police officer has shot and killed three U.S. Marines in southern Afghanistan. It is the third attack on coalition forces by their Afghan counterparts in a week.

Soldiers get in harms way, but my big issue is FOR WHAT? I mean what would Victory in Afghanistan look like? We don’t want to annex the nation for some empire, the idea of terrorist attacks coming to an end is fantasy. They already have a new government. Why are we having our soldiers killed?

Also good job for President Anti-War! We can really tell!

Hickok Reviews One of My Faves

FP Liberator .45!

You can buy the replicas here, to comply with modern regulations the smooth-bore pistol is now rifled, has a serial number and appropriate markings. They’re a little spendy, but if you want a really good replica that indeed shoots that’s the price to pay!

Truth Behind the Private Sale Ban

It doesn’t work.

Christian Hall, 24, was today sentenced to five years in prison and two years of probation after pleading guilty May 23 to numerous counts of straw purchasing firearms, according to a release from the District Attorney’s Office.

Between April and August of 2011, Hall falsely identified himself on federal and state purchase forms as the actual buyer of four handguns and an AK-47, then illegally transferred them to criminals in the Olney section of the city.

Hall bought a Glock .357 and a Glock .40 at Frank’s Gun Shop on the 4700 block of Blakiston Street in Holmesburg and handed over the handguns to two men, identified only as Punch and Brandon. The Glock .40 was recovered at the scene of a shooting on Feb. 22, 2012.

Now what the antis don’t want to talk about is that in Pennsylvania it is illegal to sell a handgun privately….so this guy went to a gun shop and bought the guns legally…then sold then ILLEGALLY.

He had a clean background, and yet now he’s a prohibited person and going to spend a few years in prison. This is EXACTLY the behavior banning private sale is supposed to PREVENT….but laws don’t prevent crime, hence why one of the guns was recovered at a MURDER…you know, one of the most taboo crimes in most cultures. All laws do is direct punishment against people found GUILTY of those crimes.

Of course selling guns to prohibited people, and lying on FFL forms is a FEDERAL crime, so in all 50 states this is a serious crime, the difference in Pennsylvania, the state could also get a piece of this guy if they wanted and charge him with the state crime of selling a handgun privately….but does it really matter?

There’s the crux of anti-rights proposals, ban guns for irrelevant features, add restrictions that won’t work (like the NFA to prevent people like John Dillinger, Clyde Barrow, and Al Capone from using certain weapons…that they got from stealing from Armories or corrupt Police, or the GCA ’68 in the wake of the killing of JFK and MLK, adding restrictions on gun sales that wouldn’t have stopped those assassins, or the Brady Bill, which wouldn’t have stopped Hinkley) or add redundant laws with the intent of stopping activities that are already illegal.

Their logic is “If guns were as illegal as murder, nobody would be murdered with guns!”, and it makes sense to them!

“Gun Death” Scalding Bath

Just look at this horrible story:

Even in a country that sees 44 murders a day, the case has left the public horrified.

A gang of robbers gunned down a father, raped and murdered his wife.

Then, in a final act of sickening brutality, they drowned the couple’s 12-year-old son in scalding bath water.

Amaro Viana was murdered to prevent him from identifying the three housebreakers who carried out the raid in suburban South Africa.

Those who use “Gun Death” claim that if we submit to their plans we’ll be safe…like in South Africa. Also while the killers had guns, they didn’t use them on the boy! Nice! So two “Gun Deaths” but one young boy who doesn’t count!

Classy!
