Great Article!

Emily Miller getting her gun.

After months of aggravation, hundreds of dollars in fees, countless hours jumping over hurdles, I am now a gun owner and finally exercising my second amendment right to keep arms (bearing arms is still illegal in the nation’s capital).

Great opening, Emily, and we need to point that out. The constitution say we have the right to Keep AND Bear arms. You aren’t doing much “bearing” if you can only carry your gun around in a locked box unloaded and useless. You’re just “Keeping”.

The bad guys buy guns off the street in five minutes, and the city has no record of the transaction. Law-abiding citizens have to take a five-hour class that is only taught outside of the District, pay $465 in fees, sign six forms, pass a written test on gun laws, get fingerprinted, be subject to a police ballistics test and take days off work.

Now note that Emily is a Journalist so she’s selling her story to her employers so she’s not necessarily “Taking time off work” to jump through all the pointless and miserable hoops. I’ll also note from my own experiences playing a similar, but less arduous game here in Massachusetts you sometimes find yourself opposite an armed and uniformed police officer asking questions about exercising a right they may not support! That can be VERY intimidating, and I know people who have discontinued the licensing process when they came face-to-face with a gruff cop not interested in helping a “Civilian” get a gun permit he doesn’t think they should have. (I will also note I have had some GREAT experiences as well, its not all bad, but it IS all unnecessary) This is NOT an easy, or an enjoyable process. Going to a gun shop and looking at guns you might want to buy is fun, talking to a cop about what paperwork you need to fill out, and engaging in activities generally associated with criminals, like being photographed, fingerprinted, and having your private property handled and inspected.

I signed the expiration date form, then I waited about 15 minutes. Officer Brown came back to the desk with the application, with the top white sheet ripped off and my photo stapled to the yellow copy. “Is this my certificate?” I asked. “Do I have to carry all these papers with my gun?”

Officer Harper answered. “Just this top sheet. But if you want to add photos to the other pink sheets, you can use that too.” I thought, this flimsy piece of paper is ridiculous. It should be a laminated card that can go in your wallet.

Another classy move. When I lived in Medford Mass there was an Electronic LTC available, but Medford wanted to issue the old laminated cards. If you’ve ever waited table or done other jobs where you get tips, you know what feeling of having $50-60 in singles in your wallet? Well this massive hard-plastic card that would only fit in my billfold made my wallet always feel like that.

Then Officer Harper took my gun and put it in a black envelope. “What exactly do you do with it now?” I asked.

“We take a photo of it. Then we shoot two rounds and keep those as like “fingerprints” for the gun,” he said. I’d heard from a D.C. gun owners that he believes his pistol was shot up to 50 rounds during the test. And another resident thought the police broke his gun. None of these people have filed a report, so I was interested in following up on the rumor.

Photo of the gun? Really? What if Emily has it refinished or embellished? What if she swaps the grips? Decides to powder-coat the Stainless slide? And of course that “Ballistic Fingerprints” crap is an anti-rights sham that just wastes money.

True to his word, Officer Harper was back in a short time with my gun. I reached out to check it before leaving, and Officer Brown startled.

“Not out here, you can’t. Come to the back of the office,” she said leading me about 30 feet away from the door. I can understand this precaution. If I was walking by a D.C. government office and saw someone pull out a full-sized 9mm and rack a gun, I’d probably scream.

In the back, there was this metal container at a 45 degree angle to the floor and about knee high. She told me to hold the gun inside the metal thing and then rack it. I did and the gun looked fine.

BTW Emily knew nothing about guns when she started this, she’s a much better study than any of the opponents who still misuse the word “Clip”, and know nothing about gun safety.

Well she got the gun home, but she’s still keeping up the fight. Its true, when somebody makes something that SHOULD be simple unnecessarily complicated and stupid, the end result is often an activist.

I’m glad she’s on our side, and I hope she has a great time with her new Sig!

If You Are a Grown-up You Are a Chump!

I lived in an Apartment for a number of years. I wasn’t just living there, I was saving. I moved in with my wife, we lived together in an Apartment, we were saving. Our Landlord turned one of our apartments into a Condo, we looked to buy it, and while we COULD afford to own the place, it was too tight for our comfort.

We now have our own home. We have a mortgage, and we’re still saving. Why? Because if one of use loses our job, or we have an emergency we can weather a good deal of storms and never miss a Mortgage payment. We recently refinanced our mortgage and got a lower rate. We still pay the same monthly rate so we can pay the house down faster, and can always fall back to the lower minimum rate.

We are CHUMPS!

Some relief for more than a million beleaguered homeowners appears to be at hand, as New York and California will join just about all the other states in a $26 billion foreclosure settlement with the nation’s largest banks, according to a person familiar with negotiations.

So we sacrificed so much to weather hard times now WE get to pay for those who didn’t.

Why fucking bother? Today Americans are PUNISHED for acting their age.

Hard to Belive

Man

Two former Massachusetts recreation managers have admitted that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict them of reckless endangerment of a child for opening a murky state-run pool where the body of a drowned woman went unnoticed for two days.

Brian Shanahan and Jeff Carter both admitted to sufficient facts in court Tuesday. Their cases were continued without a finding for a year. If they are not convicted of any new crimes during that probationary period, the charges will be dropped.

When this first happened I couldn’t believe the story went down like it was said. The pool is painted that light aqua color that’s popular with pool liners. The departed woman had black skin which I think would have stood out more, than say a pale skinned person in a pale bathing suit.

The woman had 3 kids and a long-time boyfriend, and was at the pool with a young kid, none of them raised enugh of a ruckus for anybody to look very hard, and certainly not enugh to interest authorities.

The fact that the pool was so murky that nobody could see the corpse on the bottom for several days is scary, but I’m still more troubled that nobody went nuts when the kid she was with came home and she didn’t.

Messed up!

White Zombie

Thirdpower quotes Joan Peterson:

The picture doesn’t look like a “Zombie” to me. I think it’s a stretch on the part of you guys. If the photo is supposed to represent what most people think “zombies” look like, it was poorly done, to say the least.

Third retorts:

Really? So what do ‘Zombie’s’ REALLY look like? She’s used to the brainless, shambling masses involved in the anti-gun world so may have got confused.

Just in case Thirdpower is uniformed, Real-life isn’t like Hollywood. Michael Chrichton and Stephen Spielberg invisions the Velociraptor as a man-size killing machine, but really they were closer to a large predatory chicken.

This is what a REAL Anti-Gun Zombie Looks like:

Notice the Pale skin, the comical expression and the dead-dead eyes. This is the face of Gun Control. THE ZOMBIE!

They Walk the Earth!

Oh and Why not a song?

Unabashed Bigotry

Sometimes I’m gobsmacked at the lack of shame the antis have in their abhorrent behavior. Take Joan’s Latest mess.

First up she talks about this messed up story where a children’s book author gets upset that a gun shop is in her town, and demands the zoning laws be changed and the store forced to move. BTW this is REALLY what the antis mean when they talk about Universal background checks. They mean you have to go to a gun shop to buy and sell guns…and THE gunshop (as in the only one) is hundreds of miles away, and in the middle of a military base! Also Joan drops this gem.

I have another question. What does it mean when the owner of the gun store says he hopes New Jersey will recognize Second Amendment rights someday? What second amendment rights does New Jersey not recognize? People have a right to buy and own guns. The fact that the gun store even exists is testimony to the fact that New Jersey recognizes that there is a right for people to buy guns from licensed gun dealers. Just because New Jersey has placed some stricter restrictions on guns and who owns them doesn’t mean they are violating anyone’s rights. Here are the gun rights folks throwing the second amendment around as if any restrictions on who can own a gun, who can carry one and where they can be carried is a violation of their rights.

This is very similar to Joan’s little hand-tip a while back where she pointed out that if gun owners were paid “Fair market value” for their guns when the government took them away it wasn’t “Confiscation”, she’s now beating a common drum that you still have rights so long as you can own a gun in some fashion. They constantly proclaim that England hasn’t banned guns because you can own some very basic long guns and use them ONLY for sport after an extensive criminal background check and many fees. Of course organizations for which Joan labors aren’t “Gun Ban Groups”…just because they seek to ban guns.

But the gem is referencing this photograph

The wording on top of the photo is “UH-OH BETTER GET RAYCO.” It pictures a white man aiming a rifle of some kind at a black man just standing in front of the white man presumably doing nothing wrong. There is no gun in his hands and he doesn’t appear to be threatening to the man holding the gun. Is the black man in the photo real? Was he “photo shopped” into the photo? If so, why? And which person needs be scared enough in this photo to want that gun from RayCo? Can someone explain what the photo means?

The photo is of course a zombie mock-up, which is all the rage these days (also check out the kit Sebastian links when talking about this post), still not only did Joan’s total stupidity get me but why did she notice that his skin was darkish (BTW I can’t tell if the zombie actor is indeed of African heritage or just has lots of makeup) but failed to notice the oozing wounds, exposed ribcage and the fact that his hands are soaked in blood?

OK zombies aren’t real but I’ll tell you if somebody comes up to me in menacing pose with their hands and face soaked in blood…unless they are the worlds most confident EMT rendering aid to a bloody car wreck, he’s going to see the muzzle of my gun too, because he has SOMEBODY’s blood on him, and at the end of the day I want NONE of it to be mine!

And in all of this I’m not going to be all that concerned about his heritage. Joan seems to be…

Oh and I thought I’d close on this note just to flash a little gun-grabber credentials to this sub-par lunatic. At the beginning of the week I noticed that Joan wasn’t tweeting or moderating comments at her usual pace, and wondered what was up.

Turns out Joan flew (or was flown by the Brady Campain) to meet personally with the new director. Reading Joan’s work it may be hard to differentiate her from the rabble of Marxist Cranks who have anti-freedom blogs, or submit posts to Daily Kos or Democratic Underground. I assure you, while her mental capabilities are on the same level as the cranks, she is indeed a leader of the movement, not a follower.

TSA Marches On

I’m one of many people who do what I can to avoid being sexually assaulted by the TSA by avoiding flying whenever its possible. Well Daddy .Gov HATES that!

Local and federal authorities offered to help secure Dallas-area bus and train stations Wednesday after a shootout left two people dead, the latest in a string of violent incidents on Dallas mass transit, an agency spokesman said.

Dallas police and the federal Transportation Security Administration reached out to Dallas Area Rapid Transit after Tuesday afternoon’s shooting on a platform in Richardson, which is north of the city, DART spokesman Mark Ball said.

DART will not make any decisions on security until it finishes investigating the shooting, he said.

A Dallas police spokesman said he could not confirm the offer had been made, and a TSA spokesman did not return a phone message.

This might just be a rumor, but if it is it isn’t a far fetched one

You’re probably used to seeing TSA’s signature blue uniforms at the airport, but now agents are hitting the interstates to fight terrorism with Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR).

“Where is a terrorist more apt to be found? Not these days on an airplane more likely on the interstate,” said Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons.

The New programs are SO SUCCESSFUL they have the same number of apprehensions of dangerous terrorists AND the same number of explosive devices seized as all the airport TSA units COMBINED!

Z E R O!

Yep these pedophiles are tits on a turtle. Which makes this new story REALLY exciting.

If you regularly fly out of Logan International Airport, going through security may become faster and less intrusive by the end of the year.

Under an expansion of the federal Transportation Security Administration’s “risk-based security’’ initiative, some travelers will not have to remove their shoes, light outerwear, jackets, or belts as they make their way to departure gates. They also might be able to keep their laptop computers and small containers of fluids – such as shampoo – in carry-on luggage during the screening process.

The initiative will be tested at the nation’s 30 busiest US airports, including Logan.

How much you want to bet that the next Hadji who attempts to detonate himself and others on a flight or flies from the 3rd world to here to get his Jihad on, he’ll go through the “Low Risk” security.

You see as far as I can tell the only people NOT on the “Terror Watch List” are ACTUAL TERRORISTS. And given that these goons can’t even find an old S&W Victory dropped into an Adidas Gym Bag by their boss, you don’t think the terrorists is going to work around them?

The TSA should be disbanded and trials should be held, Not expanded!

“Gun Death” Total Loser

You don’t need to have any social value any more than you need a gun to be a danger.

Prosecutors said Lyons began to argue with his mother, Linda Bolek, when she refused to call a friend to arrange tickets for the [Avril Lavigne] concert in March 2008.

Lyons hit his mother in the head with a cognac bottle, stabbed her nine times in the back with two knives, then poured insecticide and drain cleaner on her body. He was apprehended a few hours after the murder at a Hooters restaurant.

Lives with Mom, Avril Lavigne fan, can’t get his own concert tickets as a grown adult, and violent murderer. That’s a serious loser. Also not a “Gun Death” so I guess it doesn’t count…so why’s he going to prison?
