One of Those Days

Man that was a LONG day. Most of it was just running around like a Chicken with my head cut off with half a dozen things on my plate, with recruitment occurring just as I thought I could sit down and have a cup of tea.

I’ll spare the mundane details, but I will share this story. We got a supply of chemicals that for reasons of extreme paranoia were packed in several pounds of Vermiculite. Once the chemicals were removed I wanted to dispose of the box before a horrible mess could occur. Well at the time there was a Gas Tank dolly in the lab that I also needed to move, so I elected to haul the box on the dolly even tho they weren’t a good fit. Hey I just needed to get the box to the end of the haul where the tape gun was and I could seal all the mess inside. If I was careful…. You all see where this is going? Yep Several pounds of Vermiculite on the lab floor when I have lots of other things to do, and people tracking me down to ask me to do yet more things.

LOOOOONG day. Not a terribly bad day…just LOOOOOOOONG.

So I come home and the folks call me, had a nice conversation, including Dad bringing up some interesting political discussions…until he decided to play Schrödinger’s “Progressive” and change the subject when the truth got too inconvenient. Things got a bit ugly from there, and I’m sure nobody enjoyed it.

Then I went and started to work out, but after a few sets with my weights I developed a THUMPING headache. Bah, I gave it a good try. There’s only one solution to this:

A drink of my own invention, I call it the Cobalt Martini. It goes as such:

1/2 Measure of Lillet Blanc
1 Measure of Blue Curacao
and 3 Measures of Gin. Use Good gin, but there are a lot of flavors at work here, so you don’t need your best gin, Beefeater is 100% acceptable.
Garnish with Preserved Lemon

Damn good, if I do say so myself! Its very citrus heavy, and the gin and brined lemon give it a nice savory edge to offset the sweet. For those not in the know I neither shake nor Stir my Martini, but rather fill the glass and shaker with large ice cubes. I fill the glass with water to speed up the chilling, and I pour the martini over the ice cubes.

Then I wait, time makes it good. You want to wait until the Ice JUST starts to melt, then dump out the ice in the Glass and wipe the bowl dry, and strain the shaker into the glass from as high a height as you can safely pour, and the ingredients will mix in the glass.

Remember, James Bond had as poor a taste in martinis as he did in guns (Beretta Jetfire, and a .32 Walther PPK) if you shake a martini your drink will cloud and have ice chunks floating in it, so handle your shaker as gently as you can.

Enjoy!

For Wally

And what’s scary is not ONLY for Wally. SIG has released a 1911 in .357 SIG.

Wally has been threatening to build one of these for as long as I’ve know the misguided fella. What’s scary is SIG wouldn’t just build this for Wally and Wally alone…so there are more people as messed up as Wally out there.

That makes me very afraid.

More Stinky from Ogden

I’ve said before the Ogden SWAT Marijuana raid stinks to high heaven, and via Uncle it looks like the SWAT Warrant has been sealed.

There is nothing about this raid that makes a bit of sense, and the total secrecy that’s being pressed only points that something very sinister or very incompetent was going on. Likely both.

Also doing a quick news search I found that Stewart’s Attorney is starting discovery.

I look forward to this trial, and hopefully some precedence for liberty from these messed up SWAT raids.

Quote of the Day: Miguel

Miguel slaps it out of the park.

I don’t see women getting into Action Shooting competition in a big way, but I do see a surge in defensive training tailored for them. I am sorry to say most guys are expecting and even demanding that women play by our rules: I got news, they are writing their own rules and the do not include them rolling on the mud every other weekend against us and calling it fun. Pragmatism will be key for women but pragmatism according to their lifestyles and not some Tactical Tommy idea on how they should behave/act/shoot. It will be more Mommy with a Glock that Femme Nikita.

And at the risk of sounding absolutely vulgar, our lack of vagina ownership will keep us guessing what they need. If we are smart, we will shut up, listen, just give them what they want, babysit the kids upon demand and get the hell out of the way.

Women are getting into shooting and gun ownership in record levels. Anybody who’s taught women how to shoot often note that they take to shooting MUCH better than men. The reason, as far as I can tell is they come into shooting as an outsider looking in, which when you look at it is more realistic, and the big problem with male new shooters. Boys grow up pointing sticks at each other and going “Pew Pew!”, and watching action stars blazing away in full-auto fired from the hip or point-shooting pistols without even a body index and doing crazy things like plopping a round equidistant from the badguy’s eyeballs…or making trick shots to kneecaps or pulling a gun from the villain’s shooting hand. Also rarely do you see a missed shot hit a civilian if the shooter wears the proverbial “White Hat”.

What I’m saying is the difference between men new shooters and women new shooters is that while both of them know effectively nothing about deploying a gun, the men THINK they know a thing-or-two. This gives women a superior advantage as they’re learning what you teach them, not what they think they already know.

Still women look at life differently, when you look at video games you see men more attracted to the violent shoot-em-ups an games where completion and conquering are the goal, while most of the female gamers I know like puzzle games, and social games where the game being played is more important than the end goal.

I certainly don’t see those two models (that are simply models, not rules, I know lots of ladies that Play Modern Warfare, strategy games, and poker, were “Victory” is the end-goal…I just know more who play Tetris and Angry Birds and never once let me know how high a level they get to, or their high score, because such things are irrelevant) Action shooting, and High-Power aren’t really designed for them.

Also given their smaller size, the fact that as adults they sadly almost corner the market in sexual assault, self-defense is really their way to go.

And Miguel is 100% right, as Men we can say and do, and speculate all we want, but the women will be the best judge at what a “Woman’s Gun” is. Many have pointed out the pure fiction of the snub-nosed .38 for women, and my own wife, while addicted to the color purple, says that even if the market switched to coloring guns purple rather than pink, she still only likes guns that are silver or black in color…and even thinks my Scandium Commander with Rosewood grips is “Ugly”, and would rather it have the black grips my stainless gun has on them as far as looks go. Also despite sexist stupidity a lot of women like .45 ACP for the same reason Men do, it gives a LOT of power for a surprisingly soft recoil.

So as gun-nut men our Job is to get women into shooting, and familiar with guns, and over any fears they may have…and then get the hell out of the way and let them show us what they want in a gun, and just be there to answer questions and facilitate sales.

2012, the Year of the Dragon Lady.

Remember: Carry Your Guns!

Roving Reporter Bubblehead Les sends us this story with the note that this is his own local McDonalds.

Willowick police have shot and wounded a woman who they say had come into a McDonald’s on Vine Street Wednesday night and held the manager hostage.

Now compare and contrast this with the incident at the Waffle House.

No innocents were harmed in either case, the difference is no innocents were harmed in the McDonalds because the violent criminal chose not to.

Do you want to trust a person like that with your life?

Carry your guns, and trust yourself with your safety.

“Gun Death” Remote Fight

I’ve never got the bug of the Couch Commando that needs to have supreme control of the Remote. As a matter of fact the wife and I often fight over who holds the remote because we’re both early risers so whoever is holding the remote is in charge of turning the TV off once we’re both fast asleep. Still some take it more serious than others.

An Illinois man allegedly gouged out his uncle’s eyes then pushed him down the stairs in a fight over a remote control, authorities said.

The 62-year-old victim managed to call 911, and a sheriff’s deputy found him at the bottom of the basement stairs with his hands stretched in front of him and blood streaming from his face, saying ‘”Please help. I cannot see,” according to a Will County Sheriff’s Department report.

The report said the man’s eyeballs were swollen and protruding a quarter-inch from his sockets.

Oh and this should surprise EVERYBODY!

he story was first reported by The Joliet Herald-News, which said Holman has an extensive arrest record for aggravated assault, battery, violating orders of protection and resisting arrest, including striking a police officer with a car while being arrested for driving under the influence.

Amazing a violent crime caused by a violent criminal who didn’t have a gun. And we’re always told that guns cause crime!

A Good Start

First Convictions for Fast and Furious

Two men pleaded guilty to buying guns that were destined to be smuggled into Mexico, the first convictions in the federal government’s botched Operation Fast and Furious.

The men were so-called “straw buyers” who acknowledged purchasing guns that they knew were headed to Mexican drug gangs.

The goal of the federal government’s investigation was to catch weapons-trafficking kingpins, but firearms agents lost track of many weapons they were trying to trace to smuggling ringleaders, and some guns ended up at crime scenes in Mexico and the U.S.

That last bit is a lie, as there was never an attempt to track or follow the guns, just get them into the hands of Cartel Soldiers where they would be discovered by Mexican Officials and reported to the US about guns flowing across the border. These reports were used to pushing the Multiple Long Gun reporting laws as well as an attempt to renew the federal Assault Weapons ban.

The designs for this program were nothing short of sinister, and there are many more who will receive prison time…and I have little doubt that many people who deserve to go to prison will escape prosecution because of political connections.

Call to Action

For those of you in Virginia there are some good bills coming up today. The antis are parading made-up problems to attempt to scare people.

SB 323 – Would eliminate Virginia’s “One Handgun a Month Law,” which serves as a deterrent against the bulk trafficking of illegal guns.
SB 324 – Would force Virginia’s public colleges and universities to allow the carrying of guns on campus.
SB 612 – Would allow individuals to purchase rifles and shotguns without going through a state background check.
SB 67 & SB 670 – Would remove the fingerprinting requirement for those obtaining concealed handgun permits

Let’s go right down the line. Has Virginia stopped any crimes or weapons trafficking because of their stupid One-gun-a-month law? Nope, but its a pain in the ass for lawful people who may want to buy a few guns, or find a great deal in the same month they just bought a gun. FYI Sung Cho waited a Month between buying his two guns he used to murder students at Virginia Tech. This law is crap!

Second, there are several universities that allow lawful citizens to carry firearms on campus. There are also several universities that have been sites of spree shootings and mass murder…these two sets of universities have nothing in common. Gun Free zones welcome spree shooters….anti gun people welcome spree shooters.

There are only a handful of states that DON’T allow people to buy long-guns in private sales. There are also many that also allow the transfer of handguns. There is no issue, the few states that restrict firearm sales are the ones that got it wrong.

Last, I ask the antis to show me a crime solved from a CCW fingerprint record. When the phone don’t ring you know its them.

So yeah, all common sense people in Virginia call your state Senators and get them to do the right thing and roll back the crap!

**UPDATE** Check the comments below for more detailed information from Jake He further confirms that these are awesome bills and should be passed. Make the calls!

Will You Grow the Hell Up!

Headline: “Women in the Crosshairs”

Killing a cat and painting “liberal” on it is gruesome and sick, but putting stickers of rifle crosshairs put on the office doors of women serving in the Missouri legislature yesterday is something more sinister….According to an article in the Columbia Tribune, orange stickers were placed on the doors of all four Democratic women in the Missouri Senate and on one male senator’s door. A sticker was also placed on the office door of a Republican, state Rep. Scott Diekhaus. The Missouri Capitol police are investigating.

First up “Women in the Crosshairs” but a man got one too…but he doesn’t count, I guess….also have a look at those stickers.
Wimps

There’s a slightly less hysterical (but only slightly) article here with another picture of these goofy stickers.

First up these aren’t any targets I’ve ever seen, and they aren’t target pasters (stickers used to cover bullet holes so you can re-use a target…as those stickers are plain in color so they don’t distract). They’re also fucking TINY! Who’s to say this is some coordinated effort and not just some dorky intern making a mess…or in the case that I’ve been seeing this story being overblown across the lefty blogs, maybe a political stunt done up to look like threats from the opposition…but that never happens.

BTW I love how people get all bent out of shape when somebody blows off steam in a nasty way. Its not like political assassins or Terrorists have any track record in giving fair warning before an attack. But to be “Progressive” means you MUST be a victim, and you must point fingers at the villains responsible for your hardships in life.

GROW UP!

Why I’d Like to see a 2nd Term

He’s the President of reading speeches and signing bills that make it to his desk (even when they may be pro-gun or pro-freedom bills). He’s not the President for actually DOING things.

Given that what he would do if he were to actually do something other than play golf and bow to foreign leaders would be stuff that would make my life miserable and further cripple the country, that’s a pro not a con.

Meanwhile look at people like Gingrich and Romney. These guys are DOERs not famewhores. Also they’ll have party hacks that will get behind them in doing what they want done.

Now look at what they’d want to do…compare that with George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Now who would you think would be better for America.

Bonus add that if we see a President Romney, or a President Gingrich the party hacks will call the election a Mandate on Centrist, Big-Government Authoritarian Republicans. After that who do you think will be the next candidates to step up to the plate for the GOP?
