In New Orleans a cop pulls a pair of guns on an unarmed 17 year old kid. I gotta say this reeks of “Thug Culture” as it appears to be an escalation of “You disrespected me”. The cop resigned, but no criminal charges were filed, mostly from the kid not being clear if he felt threatened or not. I suspect more “thug culture”, as I wonder if he’s conditioned that one should never admit fear or back down, even when having two loaded guns being pointed at you by some crazed asshole.
In the video you can see the cop racking the slides on both the guns, unless he was verifying they were clear (which I severely doubt) he was piping rounds off the loaded magazines.
This doesn’t help ANYBODY! It makes good cops look like thugs with badges, and it makes citizens legitimately fearful that a cop will commit wanton violence against people knowing the PD will cover for their crimes.
and it begs the question: How often does crap like this happen that we DON’T hear about?
I’m not anti-cop at all. Just the opposite really, I’m glad we have a police force, and I personally know many good people who wear the shield, I’ve also had several encounters with exemplary officers. (One pair were the ones that arrested me when a warrant was issued because of a paperwork error, their superior officer got a call from me about how well they handled what could have been a HORRIBLE situation. Their commanding officer was pleasantly surprised, as generally a citizen calling about officer X is somebody with a bone to pick). I have also had some minor encounters with some pretty unprofessional guys.
And of course all this discussion of cops behaving badly has their equal share of assholes saying “Kill all the cops!” and “Cops are awesome, so we should forgive them for threatening to murder people over minor incidents.” Yeah that shit doesn’t help anybody either!

A local story.
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A 35 year-old woman is in danger of losing her right eye after an unidentified stranger threw a caustic liquid in her face Friday morning.
Scary story given the circumstances:
the woman was walking her dog on Berkshire Street near the railroad tracks, when a man carrying a cup approached her and threw the liquid in her face. Febo says the victim does not know her attacker and that there was no interaction between the two prior to him throwing the liquid in her face.
But of course no guns used, so this isn’t “Gun Violence”, so why is this such a horrible story?
In writing this post mentioning Col. Cooper, I came across these videos.
I consider the Colonel a modern philosopher, and an expert teacher. His life he proved that he had a great ability to think about a subject and to compile the work of others into a concise whole. Also he does an amazing job at condensing things into clear and easy to understand ways. Furthermore he had quite the dry sense of humor, which makes him quite entertaining to listen to or read, so you ENJOY learning what he’s teaching.
And I thought I’d put this video last. This video was shot in 2005, The colonel passed away September 25, 2006. You can see that he’s old, frail, but Still Jeff Cooper. I like this tho because it certainly slays the stupid anti-rights axiom of “He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword”. Jeff Cooper lived by the gun for damn sure, and he died at home in his bed with countless loved ones looking out for him.
Furthermore when word of his death got out, countless people who had never met him mourned his loss and celebrated his life. That, people, is how you do it!
while I agree that is is a political issue, unless you grew up in a family of antis I don’t think I’d easily explain my situation to you. It’s a delicate one, and one best avoided if an individual wants to enjoy time with family.
To which I responded “Unless you like arguing with your family”.
Heh, I remember shipping out with a pleasant old Fisherman from Plymouth mass. When he heard I was from Maine he got talking about his time Scalloping up there. He told me that his Maine crew were some of the hardest working and nice guys he’d ever fished with. But he also pointed out that they were annoyingly cantankerous and would argue about anything and everything, it seemed just for something to do.
I swear to god, my response was “We do not!” LOL, BUSTED!!!!
Yeah so my folks don’t agree with my politics, and we talk about it anyway. Sometimes I start it, sometimes they do. Either way we’re looking for something to do! 🙂

First I would say the officer in this case is the antithesis of the officer in this case. I won’t repeat what Sebastian says. Certainly this shows how foolish “Duty to Inform” laws work. Like most firearms laws, they’re written by people who don’t think of how things happen in reality. I’ve heard many people who will inform simply by handing both their driver’s license AND their carry permit to the officer when paperwork is requested. Same can be done verbally during this initial interview. Of course in this case the officer pays little mind to the driver until he loses interest in the alleged Prostitute and pimp.
I will also say in reference to both videos, officers should take context into mind over potential. Every stop has the potential of violence. In this stop everybody appears to be cooperating and following orders. I can’t see the driver, but I suspect he had his hands on the wheel and in plain sight the whole time. He was cooperating. Also even when the officer begins spitting, swearing, and threatening the man (as Sebastian notes, all should be sufficient enough to terminate this officer’s employment), the man is polite, and compliant.
A man with a holstered gun minding his own business shouldn’t be considered more of a threat over a swaggering, visibly unarmed man making threats and throwing his weight around. Certainly in this stop the only REAL crime I see being committed are criminal threats made by the officer.
One last point, when the officer exited the car and I saw the toned muscles, the close-cropped hair, and the confident swagger, I saw somebody who would be more at home in the show Jersey Shore, or doing coke off a coffee table in a frat house, than an officer. I saw a bully hiding behind a badge, not an officer working to uphold the law and keep the peace.
Now when I thought that I stopped myself and chastised myself for being so prejudiced. EXCEPT I WAS RIGHT!
The good officers need to speak out against pigs like this who do NOTHING but make their jobs harder.
Also thank goodness for digital recordings that bring such horrible acts to light, as well as keeping good officers in good standing.

**UPDATE II** The cop’s name is Daniel Harless and is currently under investigation and on leave. We need to keep an eye on this guy for our own protection.

Interesting how just about all of the 4 rules of gun safety penned by Col Cooper are violated in the video, not to mention the goofy “Hollywood Teacup Weaver” shooting hold. (wouldn’t surprise me if Hollywood’s love of this poor shooting grip is a vestige of these bygone days) and advisory to not use the sights inside a certain range.
Anybody handling a military 1911 or other pistol from the turn of the 20th Century might understand this as the sights are miniscule and forming a fast flash-picture is VERY difficult under ideal conditions, and damn near impossible under adverse ones. These days talking about point shooting in anything but contact ranges is a quick way to discredit yourself.
I’m with Borepatch tho in being deeply amused by the use of tracers (of course in the last video I wonder how many of these makeshift shoothouses burned down because of errant burning metals).
We’ve come a long way in combat pistol shooting, tho I’m not so sure how much of that has transferred into basic military training.

The people who use the metric of “Gun Death” most often praise Europe for their great gun control laws, and low “Gun Death”.
A British holidaymaker has been killed and four of his friends injured on the Greek island of Zakynthos after a row with a taxi driver.
Robert Sebbage, 18, from Tadley near Basingstoke, was stabbed to death at 3am in the resort of Laganas. Police said fighting broke out after taxi drivers were harassed by tourists as they ate at a fast-food restaurant.
I guess gun control works good to reduce “Gun Death”, too bad that metric is total bullshit.
