I was totally like this this morning:
I must say for further morning observations, if the climate is changing then I’m happy about it. This summer weather has been awesome. Hot but not oppressively so, cool in the evenings for good sleeping, and frequent rainstorms that don’t last all day, but put down a decent amount of moisture, so I don’t have to water my plants!
I’ll take it!

Britain is a key link in the biggest ever international investigation into the production and supply of paedophile ‘snuff’ movies – in which children are murdered on film – an Observer investigation can reveal.
The key suspect in the inquiry, a Russian who was arrested last week in Moscow for distribution of thousands of sadistic child porn videos and pictures, was traced following the seizure of his products from British paedophiles.
Odd given that this is being orchestrated by a Russian National in Great Britain. Both places Pedophilia, child porn, and murder are illegal. Also private gun ownership is practically non-existent (tho Russia has vastly more “Gun Death” than the United States, so despite having modern medicine and a space program it is considered an “Uncivilized Nation”).
Of course snuff film isn’t “Gun Death”, so why do we even care?

We were just talking about Senator Klein and her bad muzzle discipline (not to mention unnecessary handling of a firearm), and certainly the audio recording of the day seems to say she intentionally muzzled the reporter.
Where do we go from here? We have a politician who obviously gets that the 2nd Amendment isn’t about shooting ducks and deer, and certainly extends outside you home. But her gun handling sucks. Well George at Newbie Shooter had a great idea!
When I read the story, I shot an email to Jane Anne Shimizu, the PR director at Gunsite suggesting that they might want to offer the Senator a spot in one of their 250 classes. Jane Anne replied that they did just that, and that the Senator has accepted the offer.
Awesome! A class will do a world of good for the Senator, and frankly it seems the greatest damage done by lawmakers is born out of ignorance and incompetence. So getting her some solid knowledge on defensive pistol techniques will be good for EVERYBODY!

Just out of curiosity, does/has anyone out there in the wide wide world of the interwebz sleep/slept with a gun under their pillow? And why?
Now first its his question not mine, so if you have an answer, feel free to comment here, but DEFINITELY comment over there.
My answer is “No”. I sleep with one arm under my pillow so I’d be worried the gun would either get pushed someplace I didn’t want it while I slumbered, or might be discharged. Massachusetts (illegally) requires all unattended guns to be locked, so its moot in my house, but in the various free states I’ve been do I’ve certainly locked the relevant doors unholstered the gun and put it on the nightstand or in a drawer. Loaded and ready to go. If everybody who will legally enter that space knows how to handle a gun (I will not leave a loaded gun lying around in a place where small children or people unfamiliar with guns about, even if it would be inappropriate for them to enter where the gun is).
I’ve never done this for any sort of romantic-type reason. I’ve never been concerned that my door might be breached and violent marauders might attempt to kill me in my sleep, so my at-the-ready gun would be my only hope. I DO know that home invasions are real things and a gun rendered totally inoperable is a greater liability than one that isn’t in the event of an attack, because the gun won’t save you but your attacker may still steal it to use it in a later crime. Also its easier and safer to not fiddle with you gun. Take the gun out and set it down, sleep, then in the morning do a quick chamber-check and then re-holster.
I personally suspect that sleeping with a gun under your pillow is an invention of pulp and espionage writers to add an allure of edgy danger to a protagonist or villain. If there are people who have stuck a gun under their pillow, I’m betting that it was some wannabe doing it because “James Bond does that!” rather than actually thinking it was a good idea.

So the Mrs. and I got together with Christina and company last night and had a WONDERFUL time.
Her daughters are SERIOUS film buffs with a VERY good diversity of film under their belts, especially given their age.
Italian Greyhounds are indeed hideous creatures more akin to insects than dogs. But they are WICKED sweet and fun to play with, so I don’t hold their ugly exterior against them 😉
And we stayed up WAY past our bedtime, and it was TOTALLY worth it!

Look I wasn’t there, and there are a bunch of stories bouncing around on what did or didn’t happen.
I’ll just leave it at this: Guns are cool. They’re really cool when you get a carry gun that you REALLY like and think others would like, or say your carry gun is a unique custom gun. Having a desire to show it off is perfectly normal. Hell when I first bought my truck I drove around to my friends house to show them my truck and give them a ride. I like my truck, and it was all shiny and new, and I wanted to share that experience.
Still guns are NOT toys, and unlike my truck where there are roads all over town for diving cars, the world isn’t covered with gun ranges and safe backstops and a designated firing line.
If you have a slick gun, open carry! Put it in a quality holster (maybe a holster as slick as your gun!) and if your gun comes up in conversation simply turn your body so they can see you carry rig. BUT LEAVE IT THERE! If there isn’t a backstop, and there are enough people that you can’t keep track of all of them do NOT be handling your gun.
If you purse, pocket, or otherwise conceal carry, we have these neat inventions called “Smartphones”. Take some nifty Glamor shots of your gun. Want to show somebody your piece, pull out your phone. At a press conference put it up on a flat panel screen.

Look at that! full muzzle control, a nice view of the gun, and guess what, it never left the holster and will NEVER sweep a reporter.
You get up, you get dressed, you put on your gun. Barring a deadly force scenario, or a few sundry situations that might warrant taking off your gun, the gun stays in that holster until its secured for the night.
DON’T FIDDLE WITH IT FOR VANITY! Sure it might be cool to see your gun, but you know what isn’t cool? Stories of gun owners doing stupid stuff like this.
I got thinking about this. It seems of all the .45 Handguns out there the M1911 is hands down the slimmest. Now its not like single-stack .45s are rare beasts, and its not like they’re using odd alloys for the slides. Sure the frames are being made of aluminum, polymer, and various other magical alloys, but unless we’re talking about the few Zamak gun makers, the top side are made of Stainless or carbon steel, and that stuff has ONLY gotten better since 1908 when the first M1911 sides were machined in Utah.
The only thing I can think of is that the machining of the twin locking lugs on the barrel, and the locking point in the slide takes time and fitting to work, so most semi-autos these days (also does anybody know who first did this?) put a massive lug on top of the chamber and has it mate up with the ejection port.
Does this locking method necessitate a wider slide?
Just curious.

This is Arizona where there are 18 gun deaths per 100,000 per year- the 5th highest in the country. This is Arizona where, according to this new article in a series about gun rights in Arizona, is the land of the free and six shooters.
This is America. This is the country that has the highest gun deaths per 100,000 of any civilized country not at war. This is America where the second amendment ridiculously gets confused with doing the right thing.

I know that you and i will differ on what is going on in Mexico. You can see that Mexico has higher gun deaths per 100,000 than the U.S. The term used in this chart is “developing” countries which I assume we can call Mexico. I consider what is going on in Mexico to be because of the drug wars and drug cartel killings which are not to be compared to what is happening in the U.S. since most of our gun deaths are domestic in nature and including suicide and to gang related activity. So to compare the 2 countries one must look at what is going on. Gun deaths have increased in Mexico with the increase in drug cartel activity.
Now that’s an interesting admission from her. Also it IS fair to say that Mexico is in the midst of a Narco-War with the Cartels. Of course she isn’t interested that Arizona is too.

But in Arizona the Narco-War doesn’t count because she had already determined that Constitutional carry is why there is so much violence.
