Housework and Errands

You don’t want to read about them, I’m not going to blog about them. But that’s been the agenda for today.

“Gun Death” Heavy Metal

Maybe not what you think. Rather than music, we’re talking about the toxic metals.

A Maury County woman died mysteriously two years ago, and now investigators believe her daughter and future son-in-law poisoned her…A source close to the investigation said the poison was a powder form of mercury. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, exposure to high levels of mercury can permanently damage the brain and kidneys.

Investigators grew suspicious after Bunch’s husband, Melvin, became sick four weeks later, Williams said. He was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville and eventually recovered.

People who know nothing about what they’re talking about often say that we should focus on “Gun Death” over other forms of death and violence because guns make it “Easy” to kill. You want to talk about relative ease, poisoning makes shooting look like building the great pyramids. You just add an appropriate toxin to any alotment of food, and feed people. This can work for single victims, or mass murder. Of course I say “Relative Ease”, as most intelligent people know that no matter what you are using, killing another human being is hardly an easy task for healthy people.

In the end, gun control advocates are motivated by hatred and bigotry, not by facts or reason.

Good Timing

Went out to do some errands after lunch, and just down the street I almost got smacked by some asshole running a red light.

I took evasive action and got though the intersection before I even knew what had happen. As I drove away I saw a police cruiser pop his lights and give chase in my rear view mirror.

The saying goes when seconds count the Police are minutes away. That’s the rule but there is always an exception.

Maine Haxorz

I don’t know where this came from, but I started talking about computers to the wife with a Down East Maine Accent. I think its a pretty hilarious juxtaposition. Have a listen, see what you think!

Good Morning 2011

So I rang in the New-Year with the crew from Vicious Circle Since I tuned in late, and checked out before the close I’d like to hear what I missed. Was a fun time.

I skipped today for “Gun Death?” just to give it a break. My Folks are coming down for lunch, and I’m tired from VC, so we’ll see what blogging is like today.

Hope you all had a fun night last night, like I did, and here’s to a shiny new year of 2011…which I think we should pronounce “Twenty-Legs”.

Birthday Ramblings

Wow the blog has been bleak recently. Been busy doing various things over the past few days, and the other time I’ve been doing other things. I know you don’t mind, but I thought I’d just let ya know.

Well Tommora is the first day of 2011, and also my Birthday. But that doesn’t stop me from celebrating for the last several days, with no end in sight. (I told the wife, that this year I’ll stop celebrating on Tuesday)

So let’s have some random ramblings. First up, our house is not Mouse-tight. Its close and I have an idea of what can fix it, but for the time, it appears that it isn’t easy for the critters to get in, so we only find them when they get driven into the house by extreme weather. Seems the cold weather got one into the house. I saw evidence of mouse activity just before the wife and I left for Maine. I didn’t want to come home to a dead mouse who has begun to putrefy, so I let the little bastard have the run of the place.

Little shitbag had a field day with a basket of snack food we keep in the kitchen. Well she got her’s.

I won’t lie, I get a whole big-game hunt feel from trapping mice. Also the Maxim-style snap-traps (I use the Victor Brand, and like them best) are hands-down the most humane way of dealing with problem mice. I’ll spare you the autopsy report, but I’ll just say this little bastard felt NOTHING, and likely didn’t even suspect she was being killed at the moment of truth. Now things like glue traps and poison don’t do that. I can’t speak for the electric kill taps are, but I can’t imagine they do as good a job as the snap-traps. As for live-trapping mice, I’ll just say from all my readings of Mouse biology, live-trapping mice is essentially kill-trapping them, just the killing is done by predators or other mice. You think that’s better than a quick and painless kill? I sure don’t. Well she went out painlessly, and I’m glad she’s out of my house.

So the Vector’s threw a wonderful brunch for the wife and I, and unbeknown to me there was a birthday twist. First from Rockstar’s Mom, I got a pound of Bacon with a really hilarious card (my reputation proceeds me), but there was this.

That is a pair of pancake-cakes birthday cakes. (how many times can you say “cake” in one sentence?) One is a sweet cake with Blueberries and chocolate chips, but my favorite was the one with sausage and scrambled eggs. I doused the latter in hotsauce and found it to be most awesome. The Sweet one was good too, but just regular awesome :). Thanks Rockstar for making something so cool for my Birthday!

Still I think hands down my best birthday present will be this.

That’s me getting Ms $w33t-P down for a nap. She didn’t want to go to sleep, but I’m a biologist, and I know tricks. Seriously, I got the baby bug BAD!

So for my evening I don’t have any crazy plans. Frankly with the way work has been going (BTW Thursday was another rough day at work, when I thought it was going to be a cake walk!) I’m glad to have a quiet night. But I guess Quiet is going to be relative, as I’ll be on the New Year’s Vicious Circle which is no-doubt going to be fun.

As a pre-game I’m drinking this

That’s a black-peppertini made from my latest batch of black pepper vodka, made a little bit dirty with some blue cheese olives. The glass is a gift from my Aunt a few Christmases ago. She got me a pair of them and they’re really neat. they have a stemless bowl that sits on top of a globe that you can fill with ice to add extra chill to your drink. Not a great glass for a party as it takes two hands to run the glass when standing, and its heavy, but for sitting at your computer drinking a martini, its really cool. Also I LOVE these glasses for having a martini at sunset while sitting on my back deck on a hot summer evening, as the globe keeps the glass plenty cool even in the heat of the summer, and you’re just sitting back and enjoying the evening.

So that’s my evening, I hope yours is as good as mine!

“Gun Death” Infanticide

Its as simple as this.

Moore died on Christmas Eve at the Children’s Hospital in St. Paul of traumatic head injuries she allegedly received on Dec. 22 while in Turrubiates’ care at her home in Olivia.

Moore is 19 month old Tina Moore. When it comes to young children a weapon isn’t needed to end a life. It only takes a bit more effort to end an adult life without weapons.

So why are some only concerned with weapons?

Because they don’t care.

“Gun Death” Cord and a Wheelchair

There are two reasons why I do this “Gun Death?” series. One is to ridicule those who use the metric “Gun Death” as results or goals for their political ventures. Is a person beaten, stabbed, or strangled any less dead than somebody shot? If not why focus on only one type of death? Hell a stabbing isn’t even less VIOLENT than a shooting. The second reason is to show that even in a world without guns violence will go on, and also to show that sometimes the absence of guns is a very bad thing.

The brother of slain paraplegic William Boykin said Friday he and his siblings forgive the person who killed their brother, but they want whomever is responsible to come forward and face justice…Police found William Boykin inside his bloodied minivan in an alley off Ferguson Lane near Dayton View Park. The Air Force veteran and grandfather of 16 had been stabbed numerous times and strangled with a cord. His family last saw him at church Sunday.

Now people confined to wheelchairs are considered handicapped for a reason, they lack the mobility, sometimes the strength of a fully mobile person. Do you think Mr. Boykin would have benefited from a firearm that day? Certainly his attacker, with full use of his legs had an advantage.

Those who support gun bans and gun control are asking for a Might is Right society. I don’t want to live in that society. Do you?

Post Snow Beverage

Maker’s Mark sent me a set of these as a Holiday gift. The mold works great, and it works like a charm in my drink.

Now as a caveat, I don’t drink Maker’s Mark (I became an ambassador through my Dad who prefers their bourbon) when I drink bourbon I drink it neat because I just think bourbon (and scotch for that matter) tastes best at room temperature. Tho I did float one of these balls on some Segram’s Seven (one of the best cheap whiskey’s on the market if you ask me!) with a splash of lillet.

Very cool.

If you have one of these things and have trouble getting the balls out of the mold, the trick is to rotate the globes and they pop right out!

The “Progressive” Church

I’m gonna pick on Kay for a bit, but I’ll point out that her behavior is consistent with most progressives. So you can see also with Chris Mathews, Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Barny Frank, or any of the other American Marxists.

First up I’ll point out that I am not a religious man. I certainly don’t subscribe to any of the religions that others follow. But I’m not a “Progressive” so I could care less who you worship or why. (Given that you don’t use your God to infringe on others rights, like who somebody else can love, what substances people choose to injest…or abuse your women.) “Progressives” HATE people of faith. Some keep quiet about it, others (like Kay) are pretty vocal about it.

That being said, they hate people who have faith and worship a God, but they seem to think its just fine to invent their own Gods.

She claims that Obama whistling means he’s happy. There is no such thing as a happy “Progressive”, they are either angry, or they’re miserable. The closest thing they experince to joy is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude, which is simply the Joy that they suspect other people might be just as miserable as them.

They also cling to articles of faith like:
-Gun Control will lower violence rates
-Government can do things effectively and competently
-Creating a Welfare state is “Looking out for the little guy”
-By Raising taxes the intended target will simply fork over the cash without adjusting spending and prices of goods and services
-That there’s any difference between the “Evil Stupid” George W. Bush, and “The Brilliant Professor” President Obama.
– That Socialism won’t lead to wide-spread poverty, and eventual genocide.

More like Whistling past the graveyard.

Of course I’ll use that phrase to cut to some music. If you enjoy music, you might not be “Progressive”. 😀
