Columbia River Eat N Tool for $5! Seriously its a must have item, Stainless Steel Spork, Hex wrench bits, screw driver, pry bar, and can pass as a makeshift weapon in sheer desperation.
Its always with me when I’m camping! Love ’em at full price, REALLY love ’em at a discount!
Given that I have many family and friends who are public school teachers, and I myself am a product of Public schools from Kindergarten all the way to College at UMaine. Still I will be very strong about teachers needing to stand up against idiots who don’t do their jobs in their ranks, and those who do stupid things that make them all look like a bunch of hacks.
Worried about children’s safety and getting sued, the School Department began enforcing a regulation earlier this month that prohibits fans in classrooms.
Until recently, teachers had been using fans in stuffy classrooms when temperatures rose despite rules prohibiting electronic appliances that are not owned by the school…In other districts, students have been cut or otherwise injured when they stuck their fingers into fans, she said. Fires have also started by defective appliances.
In today’s litigious world, she said, any injury could lead to a lawsuit against the school system.
So teachers are expected to teach children about Math and Science and Reading and the Arts….but they can’t manage to inspect a fan to see if its safe, and to teach the kids that sticking fingers into a moving fan is a bad idea?
If you can’t do those two things, how the hell can you be expected to do anything else?
Also makes sense why this state has its stupid and illegal “Safe Storage” laws for guns. If you can’t trust a child around a floor fan, then how can you expect them to not kill themselves when you have and unloaded shotgun hanging on the wall, or a pistol in a sock drawer?
More funding certainly won’t help this bullshit. Maybe we should give them a day and if they can’t teach the students to stick their hands in a fan we should fire the teachers and replace them with chia pets which will obviously do a better job.
One of my favorite movies of all time is Aliens, and as cool as Sigourney Weaver, and Michael Biehn, Jenette Goldstein, and Bill Paxton were in that film, Lance Henriksen made it for me. I’ve watched a TON of his movies, from Delta Heat, Jennifer Eight, No Escape, and Hard Target. I even ruined a VHS copy of Knights from watching it so much. Seriously its a turd so smelly you HAD to love it…and it stars Kris Kristofferson as the lead! How can you lose?
Well I must say I love the Adam Carolla Podcast, and this episode with Lance is one of the best!
Give it a listen! And Squee if you love some Henriksen!
I’m gonna start off with a warning. This one is horrible on so many levels:
Two years before starvation made her bones as brittle as dead twigs, Christiana Glenn sat with her godparents in the office of a court-appointed counselor, explaining what life was like in her Irvington apartment.
Meals were soup and crackers. Always soup and crackers. That’s what Pastor Kris wanted, the godparents said Christiana, then 6, told the counselor.
What about toys, she was asked.
There were no toys, the girl answered. Christiana’s mother — “mommy sensei,” she called her — believed toys were “idols.”
This young girl was the victim of her parents religious fanaticism, but also a victim of the inefficiency of the justice system. She was starved to death two years AFTER meeting with a judge about termination of parental rights…and still they returned her to her death.
That is bad justice! And of course she wasn’t even denied food, just given far too little. No tools used, no guns used. No “Gun Death”. Need I say more?
So remember this post? I said it had two video game samples in it. One was the Turtles In Time SNES port the other?
Its the victory/defeat dialogue in the original “Steet Fighter” game (The best home port of this game was the Turbographics 16 port that was oddly named “Fighting Street”)
For those who are fans of the series and dig obscure trivia note the main character of the series’ hair. Ryu’s mop is RED. In the much more popular Street Fighter II its a dark brown. For those that played the Alpha series (which chronologically took place between #1 and #2) His hair is almost a strawberry blonde.
Personally I think this shows some heritage with Ryu’s dark Stalker Gouki
(BTW note in Streetfighter III and IV Ryu’s hair is jet black showing that it got darker with age)
Tho nothing has been said about it, I suspect Gouki is Ryu’s father, in kind of a Luke Skywalker/Darth Vader relationship.
Breda came up with a gem, a young Theodore Roosevelt posing shirtless possibly after a day of swimming.
Dude was in GREAT shape, and he has a Beard! Brothers Unite! Breda thinks he’s hot. I’m not gonna argue with the likes of Breda, because she’s both pretty and well armed! 🙂
For those who want to know how Teddy, who was actually quite the sickly youth got so tore-up built. MAINE!
It is more than forty years ago that I first went to Island Falls and stayed with the Sewall family. I repeated the visit three or four times. I made a couple of hunting trips in the fall, with Bill Sewall and Wilmot Dow; and one winter I spent three or four weeks on snowshoes with them, visiting a couple of lumber camps. I was not a boy of any natural prowess and for that very reason the vigorous out-door life was just what I needed.
I was never quite so cut as Teddy back in those days, but working in the woods and waterfronts did keep me in much better shape than now as a lab-rat.
I remember sitting around a gun shop and a guy was talking about his home-defense shotgun. He was a clay shooter by sport, so I suspected he knew more about shotguns than I. He was talking a good game until he mentioned he kept his gun loaded with birdshot. GRAHHHH! He just nullified anything good he might have said before that because he didn’t know much about defensive loads. (Hint, you won’t hunt deer with bird loads, and a deer is about the size of a man, and the deer generally runs AWAY when wounded)
Same goes for things like the Taurus Judge. Check these promotional videos here and here. Ever slipped and landed on the floor or seen somebody do it? Ever have a watermelon roll off a counter, or fall out of a broken grocery bag? Have those results been at all the similar? You know why not? Except for the shape and a vague similarity of the color inside watermelons and human heads aren’t very similar. Have a look at the second video, what’s he shooting? Birdshot again. Makes those spatter targets look really good, but I wouldn’t trust my life with it.
They’re bullshitting us, and frankly that does nothing but hurt them. Of course I’m not here to bash gunnies. I’m just pointing out that if you’re going to talk guns it’s a good idea to KNOW what you’re talking about. Wouldn’t you think the same would have to do with our opponents?
Actually, what we need is a federal background check law so that the criminals can’t go to a different state and purchase their guns where laws are looser and bring them into a state like MA where the laws are stricter.
Hmmm, she references John Rosenthal several times in her blog post above, you’d imagine she’d have heard what Mr. Rosenthal did. You see this Massachusetts anti-gun activist went to New Hampshire to show just how “Easy” it was to bring a handgun into Massachusetts by exploiting the “Gunshow Loophole”. Well Mr. Rosenthal found that everybody at the New Hampshire show he attended asked for his ID. When he presented his Massachusetts driver’s license (or LTC, Rosenthal is a gun owner himself, he just doesn’t think YOU should be) they told him they couldn’t do buisness.
So Mr. Rosenthal hired a straw buyer and bought a S&W Revolver. He then told the press about his exploits….and the ATF put him under investigation. Mr. Rosenthal avoided going to federal prison because he LIED. He never actually bought the gun from his straw buyer, and the gun was in the home of a New Hampshire native who lawfully bought it.
Note that this is how the laws work. Mr. Rosenthal could have broken the law, but it wasn’t worth it to him. He also could have stolen a gun, or hired a smuggler to bring one in from Mexico, whatever. But if you’re not willing to break the law you can’t do that. This is how laws work. I’m physically ABLE to beat a coworker to death, but I don’t because #1 I don’t want to, and #2 Murder is illegal and the punishments are severe. So again the “Gunshow Loophole” isn’t about gun shows, and isn’t a loophole because what Joan Peterson is bitching about is a federal felony.
But that’s just handguns, I’ve bought long guns in other states. Of course I can’t legally do that with a private citizen. Out of State you can buy long guns, but it NEEDS to be at an FFL, and ALL FFL sales to private citizens must have a background check.
Hmmm you’d think she’d know that, right?
Kinda odd that the anti-rights groups are ignoring the ATF’s involvement in trafficking guns into Mexico. You’d think they’d know the numbers of guns that were going in-country with the ATF’s blessing is about the same as the guns that Mexico has returned to us as guns from private gun stores.
Of course the anti-rights people live in a world of double-standards. They post a single story of a gun owner behaving badly and use that as justification as a reason to repeal the 2nd Amendment wholesale, but when gun laws do NOTHING (like this local story) well no system is perfect.
They talk about a “Gunshow Loophole” that is so vast that one of their own would have spent time in a federal pen if he had “exploited” it. They bitch about guns flowing into Mexico and demand stronger laws…only the people who are charged to enforce those laws are the ones walking the guns across the boarder.
They want to ban “Assault Weapons”, but don’t you DARE ask them what an “Assault Weapon” is, and why that’s worse than any other firearm.
Again they don’t want to talk, they want to be OBEYED. Their positions are indefensible, and that’s why they won’t discuss it.
And this is ALL of them. Why are they even politically relevant?
Seriously its a sports game. I’m glad the Bean-Town Bears won the big game, and its kinda cool that it was US of A verses Soviet Kanukistan…but in the end its a children’s game being played by well-compensated adults. I’m a capitalist so if they make money from people who like to watch people square off an play a game where’s the harm? What really gets me scratching my head is when people start burning their own city over a game.
Of course I must take a cup of smugness over this bullshit being done in the “Enlightened” “Progressive” nation of Canada. I mean this is the nation that those who use the bullshit metric of “Gun Death” want for us all. Go over there and look at the warzone that the commies have made over a damn game.
Carl Muggli told police that his wife, Linda, was crushed to death in November when the totem pole they were carving accidentally fell on her.
But now police say it was murder…
On Dec. 27, sheriff’s deputies and a BCA agent went to the Muggli home in an effort to re-create the circumstances of the death as Carl Muggli had outlined, according to the complaint. Five times the officers tried and failed to make the completed 17-foot-tall totem pole come out of the cradle as Carl Muggli said had occurred.
The complaint added that on May 30, the woman in Alabama told the sheriff’s chief deputy that she was on the phone with Muggli on the day of his wife’s death and heard him arguing with her about getting a divorce.
The woman said he called back 30 minutes later, telling her there had been an accident and medical personnel were trying to save his wife.
It doesn’t say what the murder weapon actually was (or if indeed it was the Totem Pole that was rigged to fall) but I would say this certainly isn’t a “Gun Death” as I suspect Police would have noticed bullet holes.
There are anti-rights people who claim that somehow guns cause domestic violence as a means to strip innocent people of their rights. If you LIVE with somebody who wants to end your life there is NOTHING that is going to save you, as there are a million ways to kill a person, especially when you killer can easily get into your personal space, or prepare your food and drink.
This story is no different. Ban guns, you may lower “Gun Death”, but does it make a difference to you if you were shot, or if you were beaten to death?
