Dangerous Job

Besides the oppression of the poor a huge issue with our current concealed weapons system is the danger it puts long-haul truckers in.

Oakland police released a sketch Friday of a man being sought in connection with the beating death of a truck driver at the Port of Oakland that may have resulted from a confrontation with another driver.

Jie Tao Liu, 58, of San Jose was found unconscious on the 1700 block of Middle Harbor Road about 12:40 p.m. on June 24, said Officer Holly Joshi, an Oakland police spokeswoman.

Liu died at Highland Hospital in Oakland the next day.

Doesn’t sound like Liu was a long-haul trucker, but he did live in California, so its not like it matters. Still for truckers who haul cross-country, unless you work exclusively in the deep south where the states generally like to play fair with permits you need to spend a LOT of money to acquire and maintain lawful conceal carry permits for the states you cross, and there are some places where its damn near impossible for you to have a defensive weapon in your sleeper cab when you get some rest in a rest area late at night.

I imagine most truckers have stories of scams, robberies and assaults at these rest areas. They aren’t safe places.

Hopefully they’ll find the guy who did this. (and maybe already have at the time of this syndication)

Awww Ice Cream!!

Mom in law sent me a news-story from my past.

Chris Bolling stood in the crowd outside Red’s Dairy Freeze in South Portland early Monday and watched the demolition of his popular ice cream stand.

“It was tough,” he said. “It’s a lot of memories, but it’s a new beginning and we will have a new building.”

Red’s, a beloved landmark at the foot of Meetinghouse Hill, has been shut down since May 16, when an electrical fire caused extensive damage to the back of the building and destroyed its freezers and ice cream machines.

I spent my childhood getting on my bike and riding to Red’s. Best Ice Cream in So’Po!
The wife enjoyed it too! Also kinda interesting to see how quickly the earth-mover squashes it flat. That building has been a landmark fixture for my whole life…and it got smooshed flat in just a few minuets.

Still I’m excited to see the new place! Next Summer I suspect you’ll find the Mrs. and I there some evening!

Quote of the Day

Needs Re-posting, this quote from bluesun

I saw a billboard that said something to the effect of “Gun Deaths Hit Close to Home,” with a picture of a locket with some people who were presumably shot. My first immediate thought was “Other deaths don’t?”

Here we would apparently see “Stabbing Deaths DON’T Hit Close to Home.” At other times we might see “Drunk Driving Hit and Run Deaths DON’T Hit Close to Home.” Or “Pneumonia Deaths DON’T Hit Close to Home.”

If you have any logic in your head at all, this train of thought is pure FAIL, and if you think about it, is actually quite insensitive.

I actually read this quote the day it was posted from camp when I was checking my cellphone messages and my explanation was “He gets the point!”

That’s exactly why I have the “Gun Death?” category, because for those who lose loved ones from violent acts, the tool used is irrelevant, and the number of people who loose loved ones violently is hardly insignificant, so when the anti-freedom advocates suddenly focus on just one tool, it doesn’t take much squinting to see how disingenuous, and callous they sound.

Home Again

happy to see the syndication worked well and kept my blog filled with new materiel despite my Luddite vacation on lake Champlain. Had a good time, and its always sad to get back to civilization. We were vacationing with family and there’s some family stuff going on. Happens that most of the drive we talked about serious family issues. Then when I got home I called my folks and got some more serious family news.

None of which I feel like talking about, sorry for the shit-teaser. But I’m home from vacation feel like crap. Gonna see if I can cheer up by listen to the losers on Vicious Circle for a cheer up while I read through your wonderful comments.

Blah.

Have a Home Defense Plan!

You might wind up as a Statistic

Los Angeles County prosecutors filed the charges against Sophia Cristo and Rodolfo Lopez on Friday. The pair was arrested in Horizon City, Texas, Wednesday, two days after Jack Dell Bezner and his wife Susan were found stabbed to death in their home in Rosemead.

Details are pretty light in this story, but what I see is a bunch of young kids breaking into an older couple’s house and stabbing them to death. Their deaths won’t count as “Gun Death”, but what the antis forget is they use both sides of the coin for their numbers. the oft touted 30,000 annual “Gun Deaths” in this country (about 17,000 are suicides) this includes Police shootings and self-defense shootings, like if this couple had a shotgun or pistol handy when these creeps broke in.

Authorities are seeking the death penalty, I have my doubts about it.

Freud Can Say All He Wants

But it won’t make this story a “Gun Death”.

A 38-year-old Roseville man was arraigned Thursday on murder charges in the stabbing death of his mother.

Charles Foresi is charged with first-degree murder and unlawfully driving away a vehicle in the Wednesday death of Mattie Foresi, 62. Roseville police say a family friend found the woman’s body in her home on Loreto Street about 8:45 a.m.

Isn’t that sweet? Interesting that Michigan is one of those “Gun Friendly” States where the anti-rights group say is awash in “Gun Death”. Well he used a knife, so this statistic is worthless to them.

Carry Your Damn Gun!

Seriously folks, To do research for stories for the “Gun Death?” category, all I need to do is type “Stabbing Death” or “Beating Death” into google news, and there, a week’s worth of posts DONE! I’m sure if I was like The Armed Citizen where I used a script to collect the news automatically that would just need to be sorted and published I could do this even more. I won’t because the “Gun Death?” category is just a cause I see as valuable for keeping our rights strong, and to raise awareness about self defense. I want this blog to be a mixed bag of guns, freedom, and fun stuff, so I’ll keep the “Gun Death?” stories to one-a-day unless otherwise relevant.

Still the number of violent predators out there, and the ease of this project is really scary. You need to be prepared to defend yourself at all times. While the world is hardly some scary movie premise, it also ain’t bean-bag either!

Don’t get yourself into one of my posts! Carry a gun! if you can’t or won’t carry a gun, carry a good, and dedicated defensive knife. If that’s an issue carry pepper spray or a taser. No matter what refuse to be a victim and always be prepared to fight!

I Hate Reading Stories Like This

These stories Turn my Stomach

A Florida man who admitted to the near-fatal beating of his two-year-old son while teaching him how to box remained behind bars Thursday, facing felony charges.

May he rot in hell. We’ll note that beating a toddler to death doesn’t count for a “Gun Death”, but because I have blood in my veins and a heart in my chest, unlike people who use made-up terms like “Gun Violence” to further their agenda, this very much counts in my book. I hope his cell mate finds out why he’s in the joint….

UK Knife Laws: Welcome to the Police State

I did a pair of Livejournal Posts about this a while back, but #1. Nobody reads Livejournal because it sucks, and #2. It seems more relevant today with my “Gun Death” series. Check out this interactive video series about the UK Knife laws.

In this video even if you attempt to be pure-as-the-fallen-snow, you’ll end up getting confronted by a knife-wielding criminal, who you can choose to shove away…and he’ll just walk away (make sense to you?) if you ever have a knife on you the police will frisk you and find it…which I’ll note is 100% legal over there, and in one ending you go to prison for simply going to watch a fight which turns out to be fatal.

The sheep who appear to like this see it as a fun little role playing game about morality, but I see it as a look into a dystopian world that happens to be present day UK!

Not on my watch!

Results of being Disarmed

The Antis Always talk about wanting to have less “Gun Death” in the world. Well what are the consequences of that?

A Queens man died trying to save his little brother from a group of knife-wielding thugs – his efforts leading to his fatal stabbing.

Dario Paiva, 27, raced to his brother Khristian’s side after the younger man was beset by four attackers near the 85th Street-Forest Parkway J-train station.

The Woodhaven man was fatally stabbed around 11:30 p.m. after confronting his brother’s attackers on the subway platform.

The attackers didn’t have a gun, but neither did the defenders, and the good guys lost. NYC also has very strict Knife Laws. This does count as a “Knife Death”, tho no Anti-rights advocate will mention that term for fear his welcome will dry up, but this was not a “Gun Death”, and its a good story to them because they only care when people are shot.
