Love Hate LOL

Via Erin:

LOVE it, funny, and great production and concept.

Still the space program is dead until the corporations take over, and that flag will say “Google” or “Golden Nugget Casino”, and the atmosphere on the moon is so thin that you would NOT hear a space monster roar, let a lone a fart through a space suit.

I still love it!

In space, nobody can hear you fart!

Images of the Antis: False Reality

These ones Really get me scratching my head.

In that 2nd one our pet lobbyist even drops a citation to on Arthur Kellerman

I think we’ve all read the rebuttal studies, and read the flaws. Simply do a Google search for “kellerman study flaws” and you’ll have plenty of reading.

Still the big flaws I see as a scientist is Kellerman:

-Only counted dead bodies. Claiming it was impossible to defend yourself AND have your attacker live, either through medical intervention, them simply running or surrendering, or a shot missing.

-“Relationship” was defined as “Knowing the deceased”: This ties in with the next point…

-Criminals illegally owning guns and engaging in criminal acts were separated in any way: So a drug dealer shooting his competition or a junkie who wouldn’t pay his debts was counted the same a a father shooting his own son or wife by mistake. Also a criminal bringing a gun in a home invasion and killing the resident would count the same if the two knew each other, and the deceased would be counted as “Having a gun in the home”.

-Only encounters in a residence were discussed.

-Very small sample size, over a very narrow area were used.

-No Peer review.

So we have a 15 year-old-study with some deep flaws that were very likely intentionally rolled into the study to give the wrong impression, and look at both of those images. They’re citing the same study, and not only are they interpreting it incorrectly, but they are incorrectly interpreting it DIFFERENTLY.

Kellerman was paid by the Joyce Foundation to make an study that vilified gun ownership. He then cooked up a study where every gang-land execution and turf war would count toward his bottom line, and then implied that rather than gang soldiers killing rival gang members (obviously who are “Known to them”) was a lawful gun owner killing a member of their family either criminally or negligently.

And boy do the professional advocates of gun control cling to this study. They cling to it because their group paid good money for it, so they’re going to use it if its good or not, and because its one of the ONLY studies that come to this conclusion. The other being the equally Joyce-Funded Branas Study which steps outside the home, and counts criminal assaults, as well as non-fatal self-defense shootings, but still makes no effort to separate somebody who is legally carrying and owning a gun doing legal behavior from the gangs murdering each other.

Its really sad. Who are the “bitter clingers” here?

“Gun Death” Hospital Stabbing

Not a “Gun Death”

A nurse died and four people were injured Tuesday in a stabbing attack at an East Texas medical complex.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in the stabbings, which happened around 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Ambulatory Surgical Center of Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.

Now imagine the same story, but one of the nurses or support staff being armed and shooting this guy. That might lead to a “Gun Death” (tho likely not, as being shot in a hospital is probably your best bet for taking lead) but a murder might be averted.

This is the truth those who use “Gun Death” to push a political agenda want to avoid.

Ruger LCRX

Neat! A DA/SA Ruger LCR with an exposed hammer!

Even my revolvers with exposed hammers, I generally only shoot them double action, so I’m still happy with my pair of LCRs in DAO.

Images of the Antis: Wishful Thinking

Fire drills are a regular occurrence in schools despite school fires being very rare, and fatalities even rarer. That being said, active shooter drills are abject bullshit, just like “Duck and Cover” drills, which are no longer practiced.

“Duck and Cover” seemed to mostly be a political move to keep awareness of the Cold War and the Soviet Nuclear power, so maybe we can help this little girl (who probably doesn’t give a shit about the drills, and is just being exploited for her blood-dancing single-mother) by crushing the anti-gun political movement.

Plus by ending the “Gun Free Zone” status of Schools, active shooters will likely not bother with schools in the first place.

**UPDATE**
Several in the comments have pointed out that “Duck and Cover” does have some validity to preventing injuries to people outside the primary blast radius of a nuclear blast. I will admit I lead with some per-concived notions I had and discounted what I read about the effectiveness of the technique.

Still my point remains solid, I have NEVER done a duck-and-cover, and frankly I don’t think many lives will be saved in the event of a nuclear blast because the technique is no longer taught. Now the risk of being caught in a nuclear blast is no less great now than in the heart of the Cold War. Just now rather than a Ruskie ICBM we’re looking a nukes from China or North Korea, or from a less advanced placement of a device from an Islamic state.

Why are Active Shooter Drills being practiced and not “Duck and Cover”? POLITICS and AGENDA, so I think the above article still stands! Thanks to all who left comments about my error.

Images of the Antis: I Could Turn This Around

Except the supermarket, restaurant, and city park down the street from these schools don’t seem to have the same issues as school shootings, and mall shootings, Hospital shootings, and restaurants where no guns are allowed shootings etc.

Hell the latest failed rampage shootings was stopped simply because the shooter saw another gun.

After that, REDACTED set off one of the Molotov cocktails, setting at least three bookshelves on fire, investigators told KDVR.com. When an armed school resource officer entered the room, REDACTED believed he was cornered and turned his gun on himself, Robinson said. The entire attack lasted approximately 80 seconds and was captured by security cameras.

He just SAW the gun. Now I don’t know about this school, but there was an armed cop in my High School for my last few years there, and it was just one officer, and I don’t even think he worked a full school day in the school. Also my school was pretty sprawling, and even if you were sprinting down the empty halls it would probably take you several minuets to get from one end of the school to the other. So I’d say this was a bit of good luck for the students.

Still we don’t see shootings in many other places where people can lawfully go armed. Maybe LESS guns aren’t the solution….

“Gun Death” Holiday Shopping

I know we’ve all felt like this, but it doesn’t often end this way

She made him shop ‘til he dropped — seven floors to his gruesome death.

A man reportedly fed up with his girlfriend’s marathon, five-hour shopping spree, jumped to his death from an upper level of a Chinese mall.

Tao Hsiao, 38, had been carrying bags for his shopaholic gal pal around a busy shopping mall in Xuzhou, in the eastern province of Jiangsu province, according to the Daily Mail in London.

When the girlfriend asked him to come with her to one more store — for a shoe sale — Tao lost it, witnesses said.

“He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime and it was pointless buying any more,” one witness said.

“She started shouting at him accusing him of being a skinflint and of spoiling Christmas, it was a really heated argument.”

The shouting match then took its tragic turn when Tao tossed all the shopping bags and jumped over a balcony safety railing, dropping seven stories.

He clipped several holiday decorations on his way down, before impact and death.

Crazy story! Hey, but not a “Gun Death”!

Snow and Snowballs!

Man, a one-two punch of snow! We got 4″ of heavy wet shit on Sunday, and now 12″ of fluff tonight. Thankfully it was pretty easy clearing it. The bad news is I’ll be asleep before it stops, so I’ll likely need to do another round tomorrow.

Still I was looking at the vending machine at work, and I found a fitting discovery!

Snowball Package

Off brand Snowball snack cakes! Now these things are HORRIBLE, but they’re a taste from my childhood, and since Hostess went bust I’ve been thinking about them.

Snowball Cross

Its been about 20 years since I last had one of these. I think I’ll make it another 20, it was gross, but amazingly satisfying!

Have fun in the snow, fellow denizens of New England!
