A Really Neat Idea!

So a little while back A Girl and Her Gun posted a review of Remora Holsters

She was motivated by this review

This review is also good:

I’ll also be frank, all ladies mentioned above are VERY pretty. If any of them don’t like that I welcome them to quit bein’ pretty! 8)

OK well looking at these reviews it seems they meet a few carry issues we have in the Weer’d House.

I’ll start with me. My day-to-day carry is my Glaco Shoulder rig, and its the berries. Its comfortable, I can conceal it about 90% of the time year-round, it carries a full-size gun, and two reloads. That’s good-to-go for me, sometimes I’ll back up the 1911 with my PM45 and if I feel under-gunned it’ll be because I need a rifle.

Now there are two occasions where I don’t grab the 1911 out of the vault (outside of short errands where just dropping a smaller gun in my pocket is easier) is when A) I go to the Doctor’s office where I’ll need to undress or at least take off my cover garment, B) When its very hot outside and I’ll be spending an extended period of time outside in the sun where the straps for my shoulder rig will collect sweat and heat like crazy.

The Doctor’s office is OK as I’ll often still have a shirt where I can drop a reload into one of the pockets, but in the summer I don’t know where to pack a reload. The gun is taking up the pocket where my keys usually hide, I have to put my keys someplace (if I’m wearing cargo shorts I’ll throw the keys in the right lower pocket, the reload in the left lower…but normal shorts, or jeans, or slacks we have issues) And my wallet is in my other pocket.

So in the summer there are times when I might have JUST a 5+1 .45, or a 5-shot revolver. That IS under-gunned, and I don’t like it. That’s not a lot of ammo, and NOTHING to do if you have a magazine malfunction.

Now you should note from my carry methods, I don’t do belts. They’re uncomfortable on me, and I just don’t like them. When I saw the Remora Double-mag pouch, it looks like a winner for me.

I have a pair of TP45 magazines on their way from Midway for my PM45, but since they aren’t here, and I was carrying my 1911 when the package arrived, I loaded up a pair of Wilson 8-rounders and tucked them in my pants.

First up its strange how sticky these items are. They aren’t goopy or nasty, but you can’t just pull your pants out and drop them in, they just won’t want to go into your pants. Instead I had to undo my pants, seat the carrier, then button up. This was also very easy as the holster didn’t need a lot of attention to keep it where I wanted it. I put it at about 7:00 with the mouth of the carrier right at the top of my jeans. I then puttered around the house, did lots of standing and sitting, as well as some walking around. On a whim I even did a few short sprints down my hall to see if I could jiggle it loose.

I then walked down town to grab some take-out (GOT COLD last night!). After over 2 hours, the pouch hadn’t moved. Also the pouch retains the magazines even if I take the unit and invert it in my hand, but you get a VERY clean draw from inside your pants. I think I’ve found a winner.

Oh and while it fits the single-stack 1911 magazine like a glove, this pouch will fit a double-stack .45 magazine as well, so even if you have a G21 magazine to lug around, it should fit.

I also got a J-frame holster with the re-enforced mouth for Mrs. Weer’d. She did give it a precursory testing with a pair of dress slacks that I thought looked less than ideal, and the results were surprisingly good. She still needs to shake them down a LOT more, and I’ll keep you posted.

But I must say these seem like REALLY cool holsters, and the price is hard to beat. Give them a try.

On a final note my order receipt had a hand-written thank-you from Alan the owner on it. That’s a nice touch, Alan. And NO, thank you!

Bright Bulbs of Gun Control

I’m amazed at how openly incompetent supporters of gun control are:

“One of the biggest things is to make sure we look at policies here in the state of Massachusetts,” said Morse.

Currently, a dangerous – and sometimes deadly – loophole exists in Massachusetts.

“There’s a loophole that allows folks to purchase illegal guns without background checks on every sale, so it’s important we examine the loopholes that exist right now in the laws,” said Morse.

Only licensed dealers are required to run background checks before selling a gun, meaning just about anyone could purchase a gun illegally through internet sales or gun shows.

Ummmm so you’re a mayor in Massachusetts and you’re taking action against gun laws…but you don’t actually KNOW the laws here?

OK to be fair Massachusetts is listed by anti-gun groups as a “Gunshow Loophole State”. Its true, we do have “Private Sale” here, but let’s explain the scare quotes:

I’m a Massachusetts resident and I have a ton of guns. None are currently for sale, but let’s pretend they are. Ok now imagine another Massachusetts resident who wants a gun, but has none, but does have LOTS of money.

This Resident in the least restrictive towns in Massachusetts (The most restrictive often require club membership, a scored range test, additional fees, additional letters of recomendation etc. All of this is illegal, and supported by the criminals in MAIG) They will need to:

-Complete the NRA Basic Pistol training course (This is even if they only want to buy a rifle)

-Fill out application form and submit a check for $100

-Wait one month

-After background check and foot dragging you’ll be asked to come in for fingerprinting and photographing. You will then be issued your FID/LTC

So after discussing the sale with me, and confirming you are licensed to exercise your “protected” rights we’ll meet someplace (preferably with an internet connection and a printer)

Go to the Massachusetts Electronic Transfer and Registration form

Submit firearm make, model, caliber, and barrel length and serial number.
Submit buyer and seller’s Name, hair color, eye color, race, and permit number.

Exchange goods, and print copies of forms for your own records. The electronic portion goes to the Massachusetts State Police.

This transaction cannot exceed 4 guns SOLD per calender year (you may BUY as many as you wish).

This needs to be done for EVERY sale not done at a gun show.

Can you show me where the hell the loophole is, Mayor Morse?

Or you can do what the criminals do, and just skip the whole thing and give cash for illegally acquired guns.

This is quite consistent with anti-gun people. We have this wonderful clip

Or this where a Mayor spoke out against HR 822, because it would make every state like HIS STATE!

If you support gun control you are stupid. Sorry!

Quote of the Day: Shooting is Fun

A Girl and Her Gun puts her new M&P through its paces, she of course shoots like a girl, meaning that her groups are half the size of any grown man of equal training 8) Still the quote is from the comments:

Men, I want to shoot a watermelon so bad…lol. Only paper and steel so far:)

Reminded me of this video from one of my first blog shoots:

Lucky video, caught me putting a 1oz 12 gauge slug through a nice summer watermelon. You can also see the dirt fly as I miss all around that melon because I’m a total ape with a shotgun!

I’m sure if she wants to head to New Hampshire this summer I’ll pack in a TON of melons and ammo! But in Virginia there is no shortage of bloggers to arrange kickass shoots like this!

Oh and to tie back into the title. Shooting is fun. Showing off old guns is fun, and taking training classes is fun. And knowing that if things get bad you have the power to defend yourself feels VERY good.

Meanwhile look at the antis. They’re dour, they talk about death, and they promote helplessness. While women like A Girl and Her Gun, and cool people like Kathy Jackson, both I think will admit will NEVER be king of the steel cage are learning and teaching others how to defend themselves against violent people who are twice their size and physical strength. Tall, Athletic, and strong Collin Goddard is suggesting people give up their rights and hide under their desks.

Is there any question why so few people choose the avenue presented by the antis, and so many people are getting into shooting for the first time in their lives.

“Gun Death” Wood Chipper

Yuck!

A Northern California man who was decapitated in a wood-chipping accident Thursday appears to have gotten stuck in rope while feeding something into the industrial-sized machine, authorities said.

Hey, but no “Gun Death”, right?

Anti-Women

Anti-gun Gropus aren’t just anti-freedom, they’re anti-women. Just look at this tweet by Joan Peterson

@ProtestEasyGuns – outrageous to see Komen Foundation pushing sale of pink handguns for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The gun in question is here, a Walther P22, not one of my favorites, but I know several women who have one and it is their FAVORITE gun.

The gun is being sold to raise money to research better treatments for cancer and help women who are fighting the disease.

Oh and guns, you know the type of tool that will allow a woman who’s 100lbs and weak from chemotherapy fight back against a healthy attacker.

Gun control, the groups that would prefer women get cancer AND raped!

Classy people!

Cato DGU Map

Reader Cargosquid sent me a link to this map of compiled Defensive gun uses, it’s very thin right now I assume because its new, I’ll be tossing in a few stories not covered that I have in my DGU files.

One story it DOES have is the story of the New Hampshire Store Clerk who was fired and re-hired when he stopped a robbery I talked about this morning. I remembered wrong when I said it was a 7-Eleven, it was a Cumberland Farms

A store clerk fired for bringing a gun to work has a new job at another store.

Bruce Soiett said that he always brings his .45-caliber handgun to work. He used to work at a Cumberland Farms in Greenland, and on Dec. 7, the store was robbed at gunpoint. When the thief ran, Soiett followed him.

“I yelled at him to stop, and he turned with the gun,” Soiett said. “I fired two quick shots because I thought he was going to shoot at me.”

No one was hit, and the robber was never caught. Soiett lost his job because Cumberland Farms has a no-weapon policy. The owner of the Exit 3 Travel Stop in Portsmouth was happy to hire him.

“We feel more comfortable having people who can stand up for themselves,” store owner Bharat Batel said.

That was a good story! Also I missed the bit about the store owners hiring the guy being Indian. Immigrants are BIG into protecting what’s theirs.

So look at the Map and see if you can add a few stories.

I Wish Him Well

Via Duck the Kroger Manager who shot a robber has resigned.

A Kroger manager who fatally shot a would-be robber in a Northwestside store in December voluntarily quit Wednesday, but not before saying he thinks companies should allow employees to carry firearms if they are licensed and trained in their use….”I do not take pride in the incident that occurred, but I am grateful that I had the option to protect myself and others,” Elliott said. “I hope my situation will cause American corporations to re-evaluate their policies. While I don’t want people who are untrained and unlicensed to carry firearms, I firmly believe that responsible and lawful gun owners are a natural deterrent to crime.”

He said he did not regret his decision to carry and conceal his handgun at work but had hoped he wouldn’t have to use it for protection….”I am looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life,” he said. “I hope that my character and management experience with Kroger will make me a desirable candidate for future employers.”

I wish him well. There are LOTS of employers who would accept him (given that his work history is good…and given that he’s held that position for a number of years I suspect it is) I know a few years back a local 7-Eleven was robbed and the clerk shot the robber. He was fired because 7-Eleven has a policy against lawfully held guns (the fact that 7-Eleven’s are constantly robbed, points to no such policy against ILLEGAL guns), but the clerk was hired shortly after his termination by a competing independent convenient store, and that store told every paper who would listen that they hired the guy who shoots robbers.

That store has NEVER been robbed.

So Levi Elliott, I appreciate your willingness to defend your fellow man from violent monsters, and I wish you well in your future endeavors.

Why They Lose

Gun Rights Activists do what we do because we believe in the cause, enjoy the hobby, and know that you’re better off carrying a gun with you where legal, and it would be better if they were legal EVERYWHERE.

Anti-Gun people do what they do because they are paid to.

I posted a stupid twitter comment from an anti called “GunSensus” , and honestly I assumed it was just some ultra-lefty who doesn’t like guns or people being free. I should have known better.

Seems the ONLY people who support gun control openly are paid lobbyists for either the Joyce Foundation, or the Brady campaign, and most often BOTH!

PS: What Joyce group does this anti-rights troll work for? Anybody know?

Meanwhile all the bloggers I know have day jobs and make nothing, or almost nothing from their blogs, and while there are groups like the NRA, Second Amendment Foundation, and local groups doing awesome work to roll back oppressive gun laws and write new and effective gun laws, they are dwarfed and powered by the sheer number of grassroots supporters of gun rights.

You lose, antis because A) You’re wrong and you push policy that empowers bad people and gets good people hurt and killed, and B) Statistically you don’t exist!
