No, this isn’t some crazy run-and-gun workout, tho frankly those action shooting guys, and the people who take the Magpul Dynamic courses look like they burn some calories and cast off some sweat.

I just realized the elliptical we have has a lip on the control display wide enough to hold up my phone. I had an idea, boot up a LONG youtube video and watch while I pump the pedals.

Great video and it held my attention, and distracted me from the drudgery that is exercise for the sheer point of exercise (Its no coincidence I was at the best shape of my life when I worked on a Salmon Farm. The most “Exercise” you could have caught me doing that summer was lifting a 16oz Beer can to my lips, and I was PURE Muscle. Now in my 30s well those days are likely over…but at least I can hope to drop some pudge and fit into some of these pants I’ve outgrown…

BTW a fact I’ve shared before. I LOVE 1911s, and I’m carrying one right now, but I’m not a huge fan of the M1911 and M1911A1 pattern guns. I like my 1911s with upswept beavertails with the speed bump. Flat mainspring housings, skeletonized lightweight triggers, big contoured carry sights, 8-round bumpers sticking out of the well, extended safties and flared ejection ports. I’m also a HUGE fan of stainless.

I must say the only really “Traditional” things I like on my 1911s are Double Diamond grips, and no extended magazine wells.

“Gun Death” Another Dead Baby

Ye Be warned.

A young mother is facing murder charges after the mummified body of her baby girl was found dead at a boarding school for troubled teens in eastern Shasta County…She told investigators she hid the pregnancy from everyone, including her boyfriend of three years. She originally told investigators the baby was stillborn, but later admitted that it lived about four days before dying.

Bradford said she thought about giving the baby up for adoption, but eventually decided against it. She admitted to neglecting the baby by not giving it any food or breast milk. She said she kept the baby in a vacant building on campus for those first four days and would check on it periodically while she still worked, visited her boyfriend and drove to Redding at least two times.

Bradford said she didn’t name the baby because she didn’t want to become attached to it.

Horrible even for a so-called “Troubled Teen”….except:

KRCR News Channel 7 has learned Bradford is a current employee of the Julian Youth Academy and lived in a dorm on the 250-acre property on Tintagel Lane.

Think about that, you send your troubled child off to a special school where hopefully they’ll get the help they need, and better their life…and they rub elbows with creatures like this when they get there? PLEASE!

Another “Success” Story

Hadn’t heard this one but Lissa sent this story my way:

University officials said a staff member first saw the man carrying what appeared to be a gun in an elevator at the business school after 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The staff member called police at 2:17 p.m., saying she saw the man remove the gun from a backpack.

Police officers tracked the suspect into a Haas computer lab. The suspect raised the loaded gun and was shot by an officer at about 2:22 p.m., roughly five minutes after the initial call, according to the school.

At the time, four students were between the officer and the suspect, UC Chancellor Robert Birgeneau said Tuesday. None of the students was hurt.

So he was carrying without a permit in a county where carry permits are essentially impossible to acquire. A college where carrying guns is illegal. Brandishing a gun to a staffer in the elevator. Drawing a loaded gun in a computer lab filled with cops and students, and pointing the gun at them.

One more law certainly would have stopped all of this, right?

A Scary Thought

Sebastian is musing about if HR 822 gets to President Obama’s desk.

Sebastian thinks the President will veto so he doesn’t upset his core voters.

I might disagree. The big proponents of gun control are inner city minorities who confuse gang violence with legal gun ownership, and the Wealthy White Liberal Ivory Tower types who support gun control because they’re pointy-headed idealists 100% divorced from reality.

The people who actually actively support gun control is a VERY small number, and it would appear that while in the 90s the anti-gun movement was so powerful that the Brady Campaign chose a Republican Paul Helmke to helm their operation to help garner bi-partisan support for a movement born from the far left…support these days is again from the far-left.

These people may chose to hate President Obama, but will it be enugh to get them to vote for a Republican candidate? Living in Massachusetts, and being born in Southern Maine I know a LOT of these ultra-liberals. The answer is “No”, “Democrat” is their team, and they will not question the party.

Also of the more moderate base, how many of those people really care about gun laws? Sure they might answer a survey saying we should ban “cop killer bullets” or handguns, or “assault Weapons” or ban various forms of carry, but would Obama signing national reciprocity into law really get their butts off the couch? Especially with Obama’s record on Gays, Food stamps, unemployment benefits, and Healthcare? I don’t think they’d notice.

Now here’s where things get scary. Right now the GOP front-runners by a wide margin are Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Herman Cain. Now Cain is the dude I like the most of that Rag-Tag crew, but he’s not a politician, so he has no record on guns, and frankly many of his talking points are whishy-washy. Gingrich was last in power with the Antis were kicking our ass. Also my #1 reason for disliking him is I see him as a symbol of the old-guard Republicans, The big-government anti-rights daddy-state types. I’m sure his fingerprints are on all sorts of gun control laws, and that can be spun either way. Romney is solidly ANTI-Gun, and has a solid record making life for gun owners in Massachusetts worse.

So here’s a hypothetical: President Obama signs a law that means your carry permit in your home state is valid in every state that honors a carry permit, and he’s running for a Second term against one of these Second Amendment lightweights, or an honest-to-God Gun Banner (Romney). Also add in the Obama’s signature is on the bills allowing checked guns on Amtrack, and guns in national parks.

Now its likely that Fast and Furious was a government plot to push a national gun ban…but can we prove it? Also Can we Prove that President Obama had knowledge of both the program AND its intent?

So given all of those factors, who does the NRA endorse for the 2012 Presidential election?

Of course Sebastian may be right and HR 822 may be vetoed by the President which will certainly eliminate all curve balls….but I dunno, a scary game could be played here.

If the NRA endorses the weak or anti-gun Republican over a Democrat President with a strong pro-gun political record, they could be called out like GOA is these days, as a Republican shill false Flag, if they support President Obama they’ll look confused because they have spent so much time and effort talking out against him.

If they sit it out, they’re on the bench and they lose a lot of political relevance….

Gun Control “Success” Story

This is a great story of how gun control works.

The Secret Service now suspects that a bullet fired in this incident may have hit the White House after a bullet round was found in a White House window, though the round had not yet been conclusively linked to the incident. The round was stopped by ballistic glass behind the historic exterior glass, while an additional round has been found on the exterior of the White House.

Police believe the suspect, 21-year-old Oscar Ramiro Ortega of Idaho, is mentally ill. Ortega has an extensive record, ranging from domestic violence to drug charges. Sources say a police investigation has uncovered evidence suggesting Ortega has a fixation on the White House.

No idea if his mental illness made him a prohibited person under the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968, but his domestic violence, drug charges sure would.

Also its illegal to bring a rifle into DC without a permit…also its illegal to have normal capacity magazines…also its illegal to load it in your car…also its illegal to fire shots in the City of DC. Its also illegal to fire shots at the White House with intent to harm the President.

Of course I found this story from an anti-gun website because they’ll claim that one more law would have stopped this.

I’ll also note this website uses the word “Common Sense” in a very ironic sense…

Typical Case of Bad Justice

This is a big story around here, and it has been giving me a LOT of blog-fodder.

On Sept. 8, Donald Rudolph appeared in Quincy District Court charged with attempting to commit a crime and possession of burglarious tools. At the time of this court appearance, Rudolph was free on bail, awaiting trial on charges that he shot two people with a pellet gun in Quincy Center in April 2011.

At the Sept. 8th arraignment, a Norfolk County prosecutor asked Judge Diane Moriarty to revoke Rudolph’s bail in the pellet gun case.

The prosecutor also outlined the new charges, alleging that Rudolph was harassing a Quincy mother and daughter in an effort to collect on a drug debt. The prosecutor told the court that the family found its cat killed with a screwdriver driven through its head, screens cut open in the rear of the family home, and Rudolph beating on the doors trying to break in.

The prosecutor also revealed Rudolph kept a hammer on him. “He was found to have thrown what the victims initially thought to be a knife. But what turned out to be a hammer, which he admitted he carried in case he needs it. And in case he runs into the police.”

So we have violent assaults, Breaking and entering, killing animals, Drugs, and carrying of weapons for the expressed purpose of harming the police.

And they Let him go!

The defense lawyer also revealed that a state psychiatrist indicated Rudolph should be treated for “bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, and paranoid schizophrenia depression.”

She added, “Your Honor, I just don’t think for Mr. Rudolph to be in Dedham (jail) for the next 60 days is going to help him at all with any of the underlying issues he and his parents have told me he has.”

So he’s also mentally ill, which includes psychosis (ADHD, PTSD, and Depression are a pain and can make life very difficult, but when your mental illness creates hallucinations and terrifying fantasies that’s when people around you start being in danger)

His folks posted bail…63 days later his Mother, sister, and Mom’s Boyfriend were found killed with a hammer and a knife…he was arrested at the scene.

What good do ANY laws do when dangerous people like this are allowed to wander freely? What would he have needed to do to get locked up BEFORE he committed a triple murder?

This is a system we need to fix.

And people, don’t trust the Justice system to keep you safe. Carry your guns!

I just thought I’d point out that while this is not a pro-gun message, it is far from an ANTI-GUN message. He’s talking to troubled inner city youth that has become a sad commonality.

“Put The Gun Down” rings the same way you tell people to “Stay Away From Drugs”. No, we aren’t telling you to not take your prescription medication, nor your over-the-counter cold medicine. No we’re not even telling those of you 21 and older to put down your beers. A person recovering from major surgery taking Oxycontin isn’t an issue here, a person looking to get high on Oxycontin IS.

And hanging out with Jimmy the Pot Dealer, or Jonny the Speed-Freak isn’t a good idea either, because even if you aren’t using its going to look bad when the cops kick down the door.

The people Mr. Jackson is talking to SHOULD put down their guns. If they did “Gun Death” would be a rarity in this country.

Now those of us who he wasn’t speaking to, Carry your damn guns…because frankly PSAs like this are feel-good actions that do nothing, and one of these monsters might want your wallet, or think you’re the wrong color for his neighborhood.

“Gun Death” Monster Set Free

Those who use the metric of “Gun Death” imply that somehow if guns are removed from society things will improve. They never want to talk about how our justice system sets violent monsters free.

A 36-year-old Carpentersville man was denied bond Thursday in the beating death of a longtime nurse in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood.

Harris was on parole after serving roughly half of a 30-year sentence for attempted murder and aggravated arson in 1997. Prosecutors said he broke into a woman’s home, beat and raped her over a period of hours, and set her house on fire. The victim was able to escape.

He broke into a woman’s house, assaulted her, raped her over an extended period of time, and then set her house on fire with her inside. He was given 30 years (In his 20s so even if he served the full bill he’d be out in his 50s) he served “Roughly Half” of it, and was on parole when he killed this woman.

What the fuck did they THINK would happen? Also let’s note that this was in Chicago where guns are difficult to acquire (legally at least), and carrying them is still illegal, not to mention that a violent criminal, and one on parole is forbidden from owning, using, or carrying weapons. Hell the party he was at was probably a violation of his parole.

Yet we have a dead woman and a live monster. Maybe they’ll put him away forever now, maybe they won’t and can you guess what he’ll do when he gets out?

When I go to shooting events where I’m surrounded by HUNDREDS of armed people (at some of these events, armed with MACHINE GUNS) I feel perfectly safe because I know the people are lawful people out to have fun.

Guns aren’t the issue, its the violent monsters that society lets roam unfettered.

21st Century Readin’

Oh, I haven’t mentioned it here, but after our weekend up at camp, and seeing my Wife consume books like a fiend on her Kindle I decided to get one for myself. She got the unit with they keyboard, I got the base unit with the “Special Offers” for a cheaper price.

I must say the “Special Offers” is worth the savings. On a normal Kindle when you turn the unit off it puts up some random splash screen featuring odd woodcuts and portraits of classic authors. They really are both lame and pretentious at the same time. With “Special Offers” you have a small ad bar at the base of your homepage (something you spend almost no time on) and when you shut the unit down you get a full-page magazine-style ad for various things (mostly its Amazon Gift cards, ATT Wireless, and the new Twilight Movie) They’re no better subject matter, but at least now they’re paying YOU for stupid splash screens. Also I don’t see a point in the keyboard for how I use it, so a smaller lighter reader is a big plus.

Right now I’ve been chained to Monster Hunter Vendetta and I must say its in every way a more improved way to read a book. Also I found one of the inside pockets in my coat hold my reader PERFECTLY so that’s a huge plus.

Hopefully this will get my dead-ass reading more. I suspect it will.

My First Disapointment

At our Last apartment the Mrs. and I dumped Comcast Cable internet for Verizon FIOS fiber optic service. The Service was cheaper, faster, and despite it using a newer infrastructure far more reliable. When we were first looking at our house I noted the distinctive Verizon Converter box on the side of the house and marked that off as a plus for the property.

So yeah, I love them, its a great service at a great price.

But nothing is perfect I guess. So just now I’m sitting in the armory and I hear the unit chirp. I had my suspicions and I wasn’t surprised to see the “Change Battery” light flashing on the unit. I fished up the Tech support line and talked to a nice gentleman who informed me that battery service was contracted out to an outside vendor and he’d connect me with them. The call connected finest kind, and I talked with a nice woman who got my information and told me my battery was on its way.

Nice huh? Well I’m a little pissed that A) the Battery will be SHIPPING in 7-10 days (which also means this thing is going to be squawking at me the whole time) B) I had to pay just shy $60, and C) its just going to show up at my door a couple of weeks from now.

I’m fine with installing new parts, but Jesus, isn’t keeping the Verizon specific components running on this dog running why I pay them?

Still the unit was in the house when we bought it, hopefully it’ll be 5+ years before it needs to be replaced again.
