Seems every anti-right bigot out there keeps talking about the “Gunshow Loophole” which is essentially outlawing private sales, making all transfers through FFLs. Its a bogus law that we could talk about elsewhere (Lets just say we don’t have a “Gunshow Loophole” here in Mass, as all sales are required to go through the state…and our crooks have lots of guns!) but lets look at This

Gov. Deval Patrick’s public safety administration has sat for a year on a request by federal immigration authorities to sign up for a controversial new program aimed at finding and deporting immigrants with serious criminal backgrounds, preventing local police outside of Boston from taking part in it, a FOX Undercover investigation has found.

The U.S. Bureau of Customs and Immigration asked state officials in September 2009 to sign a memorandum of agreement they say is needed to activate the program, known as Secure Communities, across Massachusetts. But that agreement remains unsigned, meaning no police department in Massachusetts except Boston can access the program, federal officials say. Boston police joined the program as part of a pilot initiative.

So let’s get this straight, the Antis want me to undergo a background check if I want to give my wife a gun as a gift, or buy a friend’s unused gun so he can get some quick cash. But if a gang member is caught in Boston, our anti-gun governor wants to do whatever he can to keep said criminal in the country???

International gangs like MS13 have chapters here in Mass. They’re brutal killers as well as engaging in all the cultural niceties that street gangs do. Also a majority of their members are in the nation illegally under assumed names. When somebody under an assumed name bails out of Jail, how do you think the cops catch them?

If they take on a new identity after the old one is compromised, they don’t. Oh and their trademark weapon is a Machete! So Gun control good, Criminal Alien control, BAD.

This is the face of gun control, and why we can’t give the swine that push it quarter!

Also carry your gun people, this is not a safe world we live in, and the “Progressives” aim to make it MUCH more dangerous!

Disappointed, not Surprised.

I grew up in South Portland, Maine. I grew up VERY anti-gun. Of course in Maine EVERYBODY has guns. Hell my house had guns (Dad’s rusty relics of growing up in farm country), just anti-gun meant “Just for shooting Ducks and Deer”.

I’m amazed at how much my state is Slipping. As a general rule stupid laws like this will be deemed unconstitutional…but why give up your freedom for bullshit only to wait for it to come back??

The South Portland City Council is on the verge of prohibiting the possession of non-lethal weapons on public property – despite pleas from residents calling the proposal a violation of civil rights.

At its meeting Monday, the council voted 6-1 to amend a city ordinance to make possession in public places of weapons such as bows and arrows, BB guns, air guns, and slingshots a civil offense. Violators of the law would be subjected to a fine, though they would not be required to hand over the weapon. The council is expected to make a final determination on the amendment at its Oct. 4 meeting.

Seriously, People from Northern Maine always joked that “Southern Maine is pretty much Massachusetts!” Do you guys want to prove them right?

Support Paul LePage for Governor if you live in Maine. He Supports the Second Amendment and is against crap like this!

Bad Idea Car

A guy attempting to sell a Smart Car while talking about all the things it can’t really do.

As a general rule I can’t see how anybody who drives a Smart isn’t an idiot. Because of all the modern crash safety equipment, it really doesn’t get amazing gas mileage for a car so small. Also some of that mileage is from Premium fuel which adds to the cost of a fill-up.

Frankly I can’t see why somebody wouldn’t just spend half as much, and get a Nissan Versa, or Toyota Yaris, or a Ford Fiesta, or other such micro-car, and get a car with slightly worse gas mileage, but twice the space?

Oh FYI I know a blogger who drives a Smart

Let’s just say he constantly feels the need to tell the world how smart he is….

A court has handed down a 10-year prison term to a Hungarian man for the 2008 axe murder of British former model Eva Rhodes over a pay dispute.

And again we see why anti-rights advocates focus on “Gun Death” and other such tool-centric statistics, because does it matter much what this beast used to murder this woman? What do you think he might reach for next time he gets upset.

You could argue he will be an Old man when he’s released….but at 65 he seemed to be able to swing an axe good enough.

Taking the Hard Stance

I wanted to start out with just that photo. I first saw that picture in Elementary school, and it really had an impact on me. Before this life was a game of “Cops and Robbers” where the boys and blue were the good guys and they were after Robbers who where thieves who were bad and wore black masks.

Then we talked about Dr. King being jailed for standing up against the Jim Crow laws. Some times it was important to stand up against the unjust, and sometimes that lands you in jail.

Seems that a bunch of gun owners in Wisconsin (for those not in the know, Wisconsin is one of two states that prohibit Concealed Carry, but they do permit Open Carry) decided to have an Open Carry dinner at a local restaurant. Somebody made the “Man With a Gun” call and the Five-Oh made an appearance, and that’s where things went silly.

The people carrying were armed not only with firearms, but knowledge of the law, as well as the understanding that they might have an inappropriate contact with the police, so some of them had recording devices. One of those recordings is here in MP3 seems to me that both the police and the carriers were professional and polite, but there was a disagreement weather the police had the right to demand ID from people who were visibly breaking no laws. Its my understanding that they cannot, but demand it they did, and two men were arrested for failing to comply.

If they are correct there is no bad that can come from this. The Police will be encouraged to better know the law, people of Wisconsin will be better aware of their rights, non-gun-owners will be more aware of the laws of open carry, and also might have a better idea of how lawful citizens conduct themselves. Even when the police were clapping their comrades in irons did a gun fight break out?

No!

This will be nothing but good for the cause, and my hat goes off to them. I will also applaud their own bravery. Here in Mass no reason is needed for revoking of a permit, so while Open carry is perfectly legal, such an event here could result in loss of ownership rights in the state, and that is a steep hill to climb.

“Discussion”

It appears that Joan Peterson of the Brady Campaign and the Million Mom March has a new post up. I’ll let her words speak for themselves:

I saw this posted at the place where I exercise. “Where there is an open mind, there will always be a frontier”. This is pretty apropos to the “discussion” that has been going on lately on my blog. My posts have been peppered by comments, some of them quite nasty, rude and inappropriate. Many questions have been asked of me and answers demanded. Often the questions are answered by me but the answers are “unacceptable” to the commenters so they ask them again or ask in another way. So I have decided to play “20 questions.”

Wow, Come down of the Cross, Joan, we could use the wood! Talk about playing the hell out of the Victim card! Especially when she makes it very clear that “quite nasty, rude and inappropriate” include me using the word “Hon” in a comment.

Still a good deal of people have left answers to here 20 questions. You can read them in the comments, but two good sets are by Bob and Sebastian in a Q&A format that is really easy to read. I will first up say that overall I find myself as close to 100% aligned with Bob on the issues any most anybody on the ‘net, so his set sounds about as close to mine would sound, just with a Texas twang. Sebastian and I differ on a number of gun issues, but I must say he also slaps them out of the park.

As for me, I’ll answer just one:

Will you continue a reasonable discussion towards an end that might lead somewhere or is this an exercise in futility?

Seeing as Ms. Peterson has deleted 90% of my comments (All of them reasonably polite, tho I reserve the right to have a slightly grouchy tone to a person who is openly and deliberately misrepresenting the truth so that they may deprive myself, and other good people a protected right…not to mention most of the things she is calling for have been tried here, and in other nations and have been proven failures, and somebody of her position should be well aware of this) and is well aware of my blog which has open comments, and has received very simple questions from people on my side of the issue, that she feels the need to ignore or give very politically guarded actions, I would say this is definitely an exercise in futility when it boils down to an open discussion between Ms. Peterson and gun-rights advocates. I will also point out that Ms. Person is deeply involved in the anti-rights lobby, being a Board member of the Brady Campaign and a chapter President of the Million Mom March. When I myself switched sides from anti-gun to pro-gun it was a difficult pill to swallow, but I was a college student at the time, so I didn’t need to sever any serious political ties to do it. Given that Ms. Peterson is selfish enough to parade out her own dead sister when advocating laws that had nothing to do with that tragic death, I don’t see her as somebody even remotely invested in discussing the issues.

What I DO see as useful is reading the well-written and polite responses found in her comments, as well as reading the thoughts of the bloggers attached to them. I also think it will be interesting to watch the resulting fallout of gun rights advocates accepting her challenge. I can’t imagine she’ll deviate from the “Sad But Predictable” parameters very far, and has already exhibited most signs.

I will say that back when I was much less cynical I played such a game over at MikeB’s blog. He was feigning interest in the issue and asked for the pro-gun people he had attracted to his festering troll-blog to answer a few questions.

I deem my participation as a net-loss on grounds that the answers were mostly ignored, but also a small handful of answers were cherry-picked from the substantial compilation and were misrepresented for his anti-gun spin.

I don’t see Joan Peterson’s behavior to be much different than Sparky’s…but I will continue to read her blog for the purposes of opposition research and furthering human rights, but also to see if her curiosity might not be legitimate.

How’s the Wife?

I get that a lot. Here’s a little story from today. Got a call in the Lab, and the Mrs. was just calling to say “Hi”, but also wanted to mention that she’d heard animal noises from one corner of the house. We’ve heard them before, and I chalked it off to critters running across the roof which is very close to the problem area. I was just about to tell her I’d do a full sweep of the house when I got home when she told me she had gone outside to look for any disturbance, and looked into the crawl-space in the attic to see if any critters or signs could be fine. She declared the house “Clean” of any intruders.

So yeah she’s doing VERY well. Also I’ll add its been 3 weeks since her last seizure. Now that’s a substantial number. I think without a doubt the surgery has done some marked good. The question will remain for some time on HOW MUCH good.

As the surgeon said on Monday: “Everything looks good, and I’m glad we did the surgery.”

H Und K

I gotta be a little bit of an ass and link this post. A chatroom buddy of mine, Suds, just got himself a new pistol. And I’ll first up say he did the right thing, he narrowed down his selection (.45 ACP duty-sized pistols) he then went to a shop that rents guns and fondled all the guns that appealed to him. Guns with adjustable backstraps were shot with all backstraps in place. Of course you know my choice but choosing something different, I’m a huge fan of the S&W M&P45 which also has the advantage of having a standard magazine capacity of 10, making it Mass friendly. Tho I must say I really like the idea of the XDm 45 a whole lot for a nice shooting gun that holds a LOT of bullets but doesn’t feel like you’re holding a 2×4.

He chose the HK45 because of all the guns he shot it felt the best in his hands. I can’t argue that, also his piece came with 4 magazines, and knowing what H&K charges for a mag he got a decent deal on the gun he bought. Still he went and tinkered with it and sent me the link to this video:

Jeepers creepers! That’s that German Engineering the gunnies are always talking about. Lemme link you a video with equally shitty light that shows how to tear down (completely) a pistol designed by a Mormon in Utah, and then copied by the Chinese. Embed disabled

And the 1911 is really quite a complicated pistol when you get down to it. It has an excuse it was designed over 100 years ago! Wanna see a SIMPLE gun?

Personally just can’t fall in love with those crazy Austrian pistols, and the M&P has stolen any interest I had in them, but DAMN they are mechanically VERY simple.
