Morning Update

Got some sleep, probably could have stood for a few more hours but oh well.

Yesterday impressed us all. Mrs. Weer’d was considerably more animated, she is now eating and drinking as well as using the bathroom on her own. She’s actually the least impressed with her progress only because the pain is really taking a lot of the fight out of her. When the pain is worst she doesn’t want to do anything, and when the meds kick in she’d prefer to be sleeping. That’s fine by all of us so long as she gets on the mend as quickly as she can so I can take her home.

According to the nurse who’s been doing such things for decades, the severe pain tends to only last about 36 hours which is right about now, so hopefully today the worst of the pain will subside and the Mrs. will feel more like doing those little things that most of us take for granted, but hospital nurses are rather impressed with.

Also the well-wishes are almost beyond belief (almost because I happened to be married to Mrs. Weer’d and know DAMN WELL she deserves every drop of support, and love!) my email boxes are filled, I’m sure her’s are too. The hit-counter here is through the roof. It really does help very much.

Ok I need to get pretty and catch a train. Have a good day everybody!

Quote of the Day

No link, but do you really need one?

“She doesn’t say exactly how it [Gun Registries] prevents suicide and domestic violence. Maybe it’s so obvious we can figure it out for ourselves. What do you think?” -MikeB302000

Well given that I’ve personally asked Mikey to present me with a single case where a gun registry (either the Canadian one, or the several in the United states, such as the one here in Massachusetts) have solved, or stopped a crime.

What’s obvious is Mr. B is pretty stupid. Stupid people support gun control, because smart people can look at the data and realize that it only limits freedoms and INCREASES crimes.

Of course Mike is most likely just trolling for comments and web traffic (hence no link), that doesn’t seem to be working out well either heh, and how many of those hits are just pro-gun people like me looking for stupid people like Mikey and Jade to step on their dicks?

Yeah.

If You Listen to the Media

They forecast that the Teaparty and other such organizations will lead to increases in Domestic Right-wing Terrorism

Three hostages — two Discovery Communications employees and a security guard — escaped unhurt after the four-hour standoff Wednesday in Silver Spring, just outside the nation’s capital. After several hours negotiating with the gunman, tactical officers moved in when authorities monitoring him on building security cameras saw him pull out a handgun and point it at a hostage, said Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas Manger.

Yikes, Glad everybody is Ok. Why’d he do this? Was he mad we elected a Black man as President? Did he want the Bush Tax cuts to remain permanent? Was he angry about Maryland’s gun laws? Did he not want European-style socialist healthcare?

It wasn’t the first time Lee, a homeless former Californian, had targeted Discovery’s headquarters. In February 2008, he was charged with disorderly conduct for staging a “Save the Planet Protest.” In court and online, he had demanded an end to Discovery Communications LLC’s shows such as TLC’s “Kate Plus 8” and “19 Kids and Counting.”

Instead, he said, the network should air “programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility.”

“Humans are the most destructive, filthy, pollutive creatures around and are wrecking what’s left of the planet with their false morals and breeding cultures,” Lee wrote in a bitter manifesto on his website.

I’m sure they found a John Birch card in his wallet…..heh, more likely they found some interesting propaganda on his video shelf.

Also why are they so liberal with the term “Gunman”?

“I have several bombs strapped to my body ready to go off. I have a device that if I drop it, if I drop it, it will … explode,” the man told NBC.

He said he built the bombs in about three weeks. “I did a lot of research. I had to experiment,” he said.

It does sound like the bombs were not real, or not functional, as it appears only Mr. Lee died, apparently by his own hand. But what do you think was more of a concern to Police, the gun in his hand or the “Bombs” strapped to his body?

And one final word, its hard for a nut to take an armed hostage hostage….

Who Needs a Laugh!

This guy does! How bout some Bollywood Cheeze?

Hells yeah! What I’m pissed is the clip ends before the Victory song-and-dance number (hopefully with 7-8 costume and set changes) begins.

OK I want a song-and-dance now:

I figgin’ need to buy this movie. This number is from “Bichoo” (Which IIRC in Hindi means “Scorpion”) which is a Bollywood remake of my most favorite film in the universe “Leon” Yep the dude in the goofy clothes doing the Caucasian Dork Dance (May I be a tad racist and say that Indian men do a VASTLY better job at emulating the whole “White Guy” stereotypes?….Prolly why RockStar loves Vector so much, dude is so white he might as well be Indian! hehehehe) is the badass freelance assassin, and the lady is the “Young” girl who falls in love with him. Oh and Leon’s plant? Its been replaced by a scorpion.

If any of this makes sense to you, please explain it to me! : ]

I Hope He Tries

For those wanting to read stuff other than brain surgery (I’m one!) have a listen to this one:

I hope he tries, I can’t see how any such attempt would do anything but benefit us kicking their asses in November!

Morning Update

Sorry I didn’t write an update last night, I was planning to, but once I got home, talked to a few more family and friends (attempted to send a MONSTER email out to Mrs. Weer’ds coworkers and college buddies who are scattered to the four corners of the globe, but something kept screwing up, I’ll try that again this morning) I just crashed and burned.

Where we left off, we got word she was transferred from recovery to ICU. Overall the ICU bit is more of a precaution than anything serious. The doctors said she’d be the best looking person on ICU, and I won’t lie, I peeked into a few beds and they were right.

That being said she wasn’t going to win any beauty contests that night, she was pretty swollen, will likely have a heck of a black eye, and was generally feeling pretty lousy from the anesthesia, the pain meds, and just the stress of surgery. She wasn’t in any pain tho, and just really wanted to sleep.

Still while we were standing there the nurse came in to give her an evaluation which required her to open her eyes. The nurse asked her to identify us and she did with no problem.

Also we met with one of the residents doing the rounds and they said she was doing really good, and that just all the stress from the medications and surgery would just make her feel lousy, but she should bounce back pretty quickly.

Being that ICU isn’t meant for visitors, and the fact that it looked like her eyelids weighed 500lbs each, we all packed up and went home for the night. Felt like kind of a raw deal leaving her there, but I knew it was the best option.

I just called this morning to check in with the floor nurse. She says she’s doing just fine, and has just been sleeping except for when the nurses have to go check on her. The shift changes at 7, and the floor will conference before 8, so I’ll call back at 0800 to see if they’re going to be moving her, of if they’ll be keeping her there. Then I’m headed back to bean-town to spend the day with her.

Thanks so much for all your well wishes, prayers, support and love, its really meant a lot for all of us. Just like she did when she was in the Epilepsy monitoring suite, she’ll be reading all your comments when she’s feeling up to it, and I suspect they’ll be just as moving for her as they were then, if not more.

Also as of midnight Weer’d World had 362 unique IP addresses (Ok I was using 3 different devices to post updates and keep up with comments, so 3 of those are mine) and 888 (!) page views according to sitemeter. That’s just an amazing level of concern, and thanks so much for all your support.

I may throw some more updates down here as the day goes on.

Time to Get Rollin’

Mrs. Weer’d is the first surgery for the day, so we’re heading out the door very soon. She had a good evening, while I could have slept better, but overall I think we both feel pretty good about things.

Watch below in the comments sections for updates from me. Also for those who are watching this post for updates, if you could keep well wishes to the previous post just to keep the traffic down here.

Again thanks for all your thoughts and well-wishes I don’t think you understand how much it has meant to both of us that you’re out there.

Fair Winds and Following Seas!

Lame Post

My last gun post was Lame. Caleb Has a post up that’s a better explanation of the same video which makes sense as he’s the dude in the vid. Still this quote goes very well with some of the stuff talked about.

Dance with the one who brung ya. I’m shooting a 1911 in that video. The last time I shot a 1911 in competition? July 12, 2009. Over a year ago. Since then I’ve shot only striker fired guns and revolvers in competition.

There are two reasons why I carry a 1911.

#1. While the 1911 isn’t the best gun in the world, and there are plenty of guns that are as good as a nice 1911 for carry, in my opinion there is no BETTER gun. (Whenever I think of switching to a different primary carry gun one big thing that stops me is “But you already have a nice 1911 Commander…) Why spend money on holster, magazines, and training when what you have works just fine?

#2. The 1911 was the gun that got me into shooting, and its a very popular platform. That means that even BEFORE I bought my first gun I had run more rounds through a 1911 and handled more 1911s than any other gun. Also because of this when I finally decided to GET my first gun, it was a 1911 (The Stainless S&W Government model I wrote about before) so when I was determined to get the restriction dropped from my permit (My first LTC was “Target and Hunting Only” because I lived in an unfriendly town to gun owners) I bought a S&W1911Sc as soon as I found one for a decent price.

So while a 1911 has superfluous safeties which can be failure points, I’ve shot these damn guns so often that if something fails on my 1911 its because of parts breakage, not because I didn’t do my part.

Failure Points

Caleb is very humble to post this video:

He’s running a Ruger SR9c Ok He’s Using the Gunblog 9 which is essentially a Glock 26, or a S&W M&P9c but with a Thumb safety (The M&P Pistols can have a thumb safety as a factory option, as well as the magazine disconnect that comes standard with all SR9 Rugers, and both features are completely absent from all Glocks)

He misses the thumb safety on his draw and the results are a VERY slow time from a shooter who a lightning-quick.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE DAO* TRIGGER PULL ON A GLOCK OR S&W THAT REQUIRES A MANUAL SAFETY!!!

Of all the goofy stuff I see in the revolver world, be it the Chiappa Rhino or the Ruger LCR or the S&W Bodyguard 38 they are doing strange and goofy things with the tried-and-true revolver platform which is essentially unchanged for almost 100 years, but NONE of those things are adding a thumb safety.

I will also note that a failure to properly seat his magazine, or a slight bump to the mag release could also brick his gun (Not to mention any of these parts breaking).

I would not carry a Ruger SR9 or SR9c, nor recomend somebody else carry them. I also only recomend the S&W M&P pistols for personal protection so long as they were sold without, or had disabled, the magazine disconnect, and do not have the manual safety. I also refuse to buy the Massachusetts legal Kahr PM9.

Don’t carry a gun with unnecessary failure points.

* I understand that all of the above listed striker-fired pistols do not use a true double-action system.

** Please forgive the author for he carries a 1911 that has a SAO trigger and the necessary manual safety, but also a grip safety that is superfluous, or possibly would preclude the necessity of the thumb safety.
