“Gun Death” Messed Up Mom

Man can’t catch a break with these stories.

A mother allegedly slashed her nine-month-old baby’s throat just months after telling a pastor she could be possessed and might hurt the girl.

Bradie Simpson, 39, of Camdenton, Missouri, was found in woods 225ft from her home as she held the baby covered in blood with a neck wound.

It comes months after the body of her ex-boyfriend, the baby’s father, was found in the same woods last September, reported ABC affiliate KSPR.

At least according to PETA I guess

A federal judge for the first time in U.S. history heard arguments Monday in a case that could determine whether animals enjoy the same constitutional protection against slavery as human beings.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Miller called the hearing in San Diego after Sea World asked the court to dismiss a lawsuit filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals that names five orcas as plaintiffs in the case.

PETA claims the captured killer whales are treated like slaves for being forced to live in tanks and perform daily at its parks in San Diego and Orlando, Fla.

“This case is on the next frontier of civil rights,” said PETA’s attorney Jeffrey Kerr, representing the five orcas.

What’s hilarious is this is obviously crafted as best as possible to avoid it getting laughed out of court, as what’s the difference between keeping a Whale and keeping a dog? BTW I don’t know any PETA members, and honestly I have zero tolerance for them and their nonsense, but I did know some extremist vegetarians in my day, and one thing they all seem to have in common is keeping of pets. It can be VERY easy to anthropomorphize an animal who lives with you, and this is often a common vein in people who claim that somehow animals are people, or so like people that we need to do ridiculous things.

Still they’re talking WHALES not dogs. Only large parks like Sea World can afford to keep Orcas and other large marine mammals, so this can enervate the class warfare that has become very popular these days with the Kill the Jews groups camping out in public parks illegally.

Sea World’s attorney Theodore Shaw called the lawsuit a waste of the court’s time and resources. He said it defies common sense and goes against 125 years of case law applied to the Constitution’s 13th amendment that prohibits slavery between humans.

“With all due respect, the court does not have the authority to even consider this question,” Shaw said, adding later: “Neither orcas nor any other animal were included in the ‘We the people’ … when the Constitution was adopted.”

Well said. I hope this does get laughed out of court and PETA compensates Sea World for their time….and feeds several of their members to the whale.

Double Standards of the Antis

OK so we’ve talked about Joyce Foundation shill, and troll Jason Kilgore and his feelings on Martial Arts. The Operative quote was:

Don’t see a lot of swords around these days. One reason is many places restrict the carry of them. Another big reason is they’re really good for only one thing, killing. Back in the day swords in a similar design to his were issued to ARMIES! Of course the Chinese also were masters of the Bow, but any avid bow hunter will point out that bows and arrows will put some serious meat on the table. I know a lot of shotgun hunters, a ton of rifle hunters, even a few handgun hunters. Know no sword hunters. To be fair I do KNOW OF some people who will hunt wild hogs with swords, daggers, knives, and spears, still most people prefer guns for piggies.

Swords are brutal weapons, inflicting serious and mortal wounds and capable of removing limbs. Heck I’ve reported several recent “Gun Death” stories where a sword was the murder weapon used. Jason Said: “but its a start at self protection. Not as lethal as a gun, but you can’t accidentally beat yourself to death.” That story suddenly changes when a sword is introduced, it’s kinda hard to chop somebody up “Just a little bit”.

BTW there are some interesting philosophies at his Dojo’s website. The beginner’s creeds are pretty basic good-citizenship statements. But at the higher levels there are these:

I know that what someone says does not make it so. I will not let words, good or bad, dictate my actions because I have nothing to prove to anyone. If I am descended upon, I merely have to move or go around the aggression. If they block my way, I have no choice but to go through it.

Hmm, Defense not aggression, and turning away from insults rather than reacting in violence, and avoiding confrontation unless there is no other choice, and when there is no other choice “defend to win”.

Doesn’t sound too different than Col Coopers Principals of Personal Defense. Also to as an anti-rights advocate “I know that what someone says does not make it so.” Takes on an extra level of irony, given that most of the “Support” for anti-rights principals is often based on their say-so and that alone.

So to tie it in, when anti-rights people use deadly weapons and skills for self-defense or for fun it’s just for fun, while if people use GUNS specifically (Remember, “Guns are different because they are different!”) its dangerous and violent, and they are future murderers.

Also note that Jason was doing all he could to push the CSGV “outing” article, but got upset when people discovered he was using both his real name and his screen name as a sockpuppet.

You see Freedom Loving people have standards which is good, anti-freedom people have DOUBLE standards which must be TWICE as good, right?

In closing, be careful with that thing Jason, its dangerous, and I hope you lock it up when you get home, lest the kids hurt themselves! Oh and swords aren’t any more dangerous than kitchen knives…you lock those up too, right?

And Why Do We Have Gangs?

I’m amazed by this story:

Gang-related deaths typically aren’t the product of fights over drugs — as many assume — but rather result from grudges between rival gangs that erupt into violence, according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Gang homicides nearly always involve guns, usually occur in public places and the victims tend to be under the age of 19, the agency reported on Thursday in a study that examined 2003-2008 data from Los Angeles, Long Beach and Oakland, California; Oklahoma City; and Newark, New Jersey.

“These incidents most often result when contentious gang members pass each other in public places and a conflict quickly escalates into homicide with the use of firearms and drive-by shootings,” the CDC said.

They don’t link to the actual study, so I can look over the methods, also I’m not familiar with the reporting methods of said crimes to see if there’s any resolution issue with the raw data. Still let’s take it at face value, and say this is indeed true. Certainly I frequently read about gang murders that seem to conform to this.

But why are gangs rivals? Why do they have “turf wars”? Why are there Gangs at all? What do they do?

If this story is to be believed and most of the deaths are a results of the more tribal side of gangs, than the enforcement side, still the fuel behind gangs, and the attraction of young men to enter these groups is the drugs, and the money the drugs generate.

Back in the 20s there were gangs doing the same thing, and they were doing it over booze and gambling. We legalized both and they stopped.

Take the hint.

I have one nit to pick:

DuPriest says he is satisfied with Arkansas’ concealed carry law. Other states have open carry laws meaning anyone can carry a weapon in plain sight. But DuPriest says by carrying concealed, he doesn’t lose his tactical advantage to the bad guy.

“Arkansas is a very liberal state in terms of comparing us to other states. Our laws and statutes are very much in favor of the individual and the right to protect and defend themselves,” says DuPriest.

BS. There are many states that don’t bother with permits, or allow permitless carry if open carrying, and many that don’t require any safety training or tests for their permits. While something may SOUND better or worse, there is no evidence that issuing permits or requiring training has ANYTHING to do with public safety.

That being said, its a good story, also while I’m a Yankee the company Shoothouse USA is known to me, as they’re the sponsors or The Road Gunner Podcast which is a really good podcast.

They Think This is How it Works

Jason Kilgore of the Joyce Foundation has a rather short-sighted Tweet (as if there is such a thing as a “Brilliant Tweet” Sorry even people who I know and love, and consider quite smart sound dumb on twitter)

Austin was at a friend’s house when the boy tried to scare Austin with his father’s duck hunting rifle, police say.

The boy thought it was unloaded, but it wasn’t.

Police say the gun was left out, unsecured in the living room.

For that, Austin’s parents say there is no excuse.

There is no mention of the family who left the gun out…not even their name. So I don’t even know how to look up to see if charges were filed. This is indeed a horrible case. Now first up I assume the gun in question was not a “rifle” but a shotgun loaded with field loads. Otherwise a shot to the head would have been instantly fatal. Also pretty sure its illegal everywhere to hunt ducks with a rifle.

Still I want to focus on Jason’s tag line of “why child access prevention laws are needed” (BTW he had to fragment his statement so he could fit it into twitter. This is why even smart people sound dumb on twitter. But Jason is for-real dumb)

OK so we have a family that has not only their young kids at home, but have OTHER PEOPLE’s kids in their home, and they leave them totally unsupervised, and leave a loaded shotgun lying around.

I’ll make a quick assumption. There ARE people who use long sporting shotguns for home defense, and there are people who think bird and skeet loads are useful for home defense (they aren’t DON’T!), there’s a strong chance that this isn’t a home defense gun, and a better chance that its just a hunting gun that was either intentionally left loaded, or never properly cleared for storage.

Now let’s step away from the guns issue for a second. The anti-freedom cultist’s mantra is “Guns are different because guns are different”, but in this instance we can look at other dangerous stuff you find around the house.

Vector and Rockstar have a young daughter. Their house is FULL of safety stuff to make life safer for a young girl exploring her world. They have gates on stairs and around the kitchen. Cupboards that hold various things that can be harmful have child locks on them, and bathrooms have safety knobs on them to keep them from being opened by curious fingers. Heck they even have a safety latch on their toilet (which can be a pain if you don’t know the trick to open it and you desperately need to pee!)

None of these things are mandated by law. Nor are their any laws that say you can’t leave your chef knife in the play pen.

OK now let’s look at things that there ARE laws for. Drunk driving is both very dangerous and very illegal. Does this keep people with bad judgement from doing it?

Nope!

What helps is the people who are caught drunk driving lose their licenses, and repeat offenders often spend some time in jail. Also we don’t catch all of them, and some drunks get home safely, and other kill themselves and others in accidents.

Life isn’t safe, and the solution is NOT to ban alcohol, or say that people ONLY may imbibe adult beverages in a location where they are sleeping.

Punish bad behavior, and punish severely bad behavior severely. You leave a loaded shotgun around where kids are playing, you should be in deep shit if you get caught (and I hope these jerks are). But when I’m in Maine and I’m in a house where there are no kids, and everybody is a grown adult who is far smarter than to play with a strange gun, I don’t pass a law that would make me a criminal for leaving a gun on my night stand.

But this is how these idiots think. They think if we make murder or drunk driving illegal nobody will murder or drunk drive, or if you force “Safe Storage Laws” on people everybody will lock up their guns…and when criminals get caught storing their guns unsafely they’ll be punished for it.

Nope, the laws are junk. REPEAL THEM!

Remora AAC

So you remember I got a set of holsters from Remora. The Mag carrier is really the one I plan on getting the most use of is the mag carrier as a way to pack a pair of extended reloads for my PM45 when I just don’t have the pockets for packing a spare mag. Still last night I got home from work, changed into my workout clothes and worked out. I knew last night my duties were to have dinner on the table for when the Mrs. came home and then we were going to pick up an order at Home Depot.

Generally since I know it’ll just be a quick hop out the door, I would generally just throw my PM45 into my pocket….and if I had the magazines the double-mag carrier, and be ready to go. As I put my PM45 into my pocket I was thinking of where I’d throw my extra 5-round reload (Note to people with small autos looking at Remora Mag carriers, the pouch is about the same size as most full-size mag carriers. When I put the 5-rounder into the carrier it SWALLOWS it down to the base pad. This is sub optimal as you won’t be able to get a positive grip on the mag before pulling it free.) and I realized I had a way to carry five extra rounds:

Yeah it’s the wife’s holster, but I don’t think she’ll mind! So I stoked up gun and put it in my waistband.

Just like the mag carrier placing the holster is amazingly easy. I undid my pants, put the holster and gun where I felt it should be, then button up my pants. The holster grips to my pants and my skin enough that it doesn’t even slip or slide with my pants undone! My first big thrill is that with no belt loops you get close to unlimited adjustment. I prefer to wear a gun at about 4:00 behind my right hip, when you have a belt holster you have to place the loops between your belt loops, and a good holster won’t easily slide along your belt, but with the remora I was able to make all sorts of fine adjustments for comfort and concealability. Note we’re not just talking where on your waist, but how the holster rides. If you want to cant the holster body for a better draw or more comfort, you can do that. I also started with the holster tucked so the lip of the holster was just above my waistline, but I adjusted it to give me a bit more of a high-rise.

with the holster set just-so I decided to try a draw stroke. The holster offers good retention but a nice clean release. reaching back I found the re-enforced mouth indeed was still open. Since my revolver was loaded, I quickly unloaded it, and practiced a few draws and reholstering. Reholstering isn’t as clean as with some of the more substantial kydex or leather, or leather with a metal bracket holsters. The mouth DOES collapse SOME but not enough to preclude one-hand holstering, and never once did I need to prop the mouth open when the holster was in my pants. Its just not as rigid materiel as cow or horse hide, or as injection molded kydex. Its not supposed to be. I will say that if you’re looking at a holster from Remora drop the small bit of extra money for the re-enforced mouth models.

OK so the holster works, live ammo back in the gun, gun back into the holster, and let’s cook dinner.

So while cooking dinner I was bending, reaching, and I even had to run downstairs to grab something out of the freezer that I had forgotten, while I was cooking stuff on the stove.

The holster didn’t move. I did realize that I don’t own many shirts long enough to conceal a IWB rig. I’ll need to look into that, but I suspect the ENDO apparel line has an ideal cut for this.

I will say when sitting for dinner and driving to the store I re-thought the validity of the high-rise, the but of the gun was bumping the seat. I’ll wear it lower next time.

The rest is boring, I went to home depot, I walked around, I sat around, I lifted heavy things, I moved furniture and I drove.

The holster didn’t move a bit. And no I wasn’t wearing a belt!

I then drew the gun, unloaded it, and tried again a few reps of drawing and reholstering. Works like a charm.

These are very short tests that I will expand on some. I doubt I’ll be switching any time soon to IWB carry when shoulder and pocket works so well for me….but the IWB Mag carrier has gobs of good potential, also I may consider getting their re-enforced holster with Sweat shield for my commander 1911 just out of pure curiosity. Also the wife is interested in trying hers out, she just hasn’t had a chance to start the field trials.

One other thing. When I had my Kahr in its pocket holster, and the 642 in the Remora I compared them. The Remora is much wider than the DeSantis or Uncle Mike’s holsters I have for a J-Frame. I don’t think the J-Frame model would make a good pocket holster unless you have MUCH bigger pockets than I do.

That being said if you carry a small auto like a .380 or a .32, or maybe a micro-9 like the Kahr PM9/CM9 it COULD be a holster that would work equally as well as a pocket holster OR an IWB. Seems somebody was looking for something like that.

Give them a look, their inexpensive, high-quality, and they work as advertized, which is impressive!

So yeah, awesome holsters.
