Honestly I just skimmed the article because this story of Santa with guns posing for photos is about as boring as they come. Still the anti-rights people are REALLY getting upset by this. This quote sums up my feelings.

Somewhere there’s a right-winger fuming over a Gay Pride Calendar. Who cares if a gun club wants to celebrate a Second Amendment Christmas ? It’s just speech.

That’s about right. These goons are bent out of shape because they’d rather people not like guns, and squirrel them away with shame, rather than such a Christmas Card be interesting and amusing.

Same goes for the people who hate gays. Just like we’re not talking about Santa shooting your kid’s school, we’re not talking about some Bear in chaps waiving his hog in the face of your 4-year-old.

Bigotry is bigotry.

Metaphor

I just found this story amusing.

Months after President Obama beamed in Brookline for a $10,000-a-pop photo op, GOP Oval Office wannabe Mitt Romney is polishing his pearly whites for his own 10 grand picture party in the same tony town….Romney’s camp vehemently denied last night they are ripping a page from Obama’s pose-with-POTUS playbook. They insist what Romney is doing is different.

Yeah, like how Mitt Romney is essentially the author of the Obama Care law he opposes. What he did was different. While Obama was voting “Present” to ban guns in Chicago, Mitt was signing gun bans here in Massachusetts. What he did was different. Obama is a life-long Liberal, and proud of it. Mitt has acres of liberal policy on his resume, but he’s a “Conservative”. What he did was different.

Thanks, I’ll stick with Obama if that’s my choice.

“Gun Death” High To Low

The anti-rights people always mention that places that have liberal gun laws have higher gun ownership and higher “Gun Death”. They then point out that the places in Europe that have banned guns have very low “Gun Death”

Seattle Mariners outfielder Greg Halman was stabbed to death in Rotterdam on Monday and his brother has been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

No clear info if the brother did the stabbing or is just being questioned, but this DOES kinda expose the big lie. Yeah, Amsterdam has a MUCH lower “Gun Death” rate than Washington State…doesn’t make much of a difference if some jerk sticks a knife in you.

The Other Way, Actually

Hunting is a dying tradition. Which is why NRA needs to sell assault rifles and “carry” guns to survive.

First up I can’t speak for the validity of the statement that “Hunting is dying”. Certainly with urban sprawl, and the fact that very few of us hunt specifically for food (Tho I’m sure most of us have Grand Parents, or Great Grand Parents, or maybe even Parents who kept from going hungry by shooting game animals). Its a game, and with permits, classes, diminishing land and crazy regulation, its becoming a hobby that isn’t easy to get into.

Now let’s not confuse the fallacy that the NRA “Sells” guns, but they are spending much more time pushing firearms suited for carry and self defense, and pushing for rights to use defensive guns.

Of course part of that is that more gun companies are getting into the carry gun and defensive gun market because #1. More states are allowing carry, and more people are carrying arms than ever before, and the law is becoming more liberal with allowing for self defense. #2. More modern rifles like the AR-15 can very easily fill the role of a hunting rifle, so if indeed hunting is in decline and guns like the AR-15 are cutting into the market traditionally occupied by more traditional hunting rifles, less of the older hunting guns are being sold.

But also if hunting is getting less popular than defensive shooting, its forcing groups like the NRA which has been maligned in the past as an organization that has hidden behind hunting rather than focusing on the meat of the 2nd Amendment. You see George Washington didn’t cross the Delaware River to get to his duck blind.

The anti-gun groups also hide behind hunting. It was recent enough for all of us to remember John Kerry going goose hunting to attempt to sway gun owners to look away from all the gun bans he supported as a Massachusetts Solon. Last election Anti-Gun candidate Mitt Romney also talked about hunting as a reason to see him as a friend to gun owners. Also last election American Hunters and Shooters was created as a false-flag to get President Obama elected.

“I’m a hunter…” does not mean you support the 2nd Amendment…and in a leading statement like that can often mean you’re outright hostile to the right to keep and bear arms. Joan Peterson claims to not be anti-gun because her husband is a hunter. She supports confiscation of lawfully held firearms, but since her hubby has a couple of duck and deer guns, that means we should trust her, right?

Sorry Ladd, the NRA is more friendly to self-defense arms over “hunting guns” because the word is out that REAL gun owners are all in this game together, and we can’t play favorites on which guns we should restrict and which are allowed, as we know now you won’t stop until they are ALL BANNED!

How it Looks

As many of you may have noticed, I got flamed by Robert Farago of The Truth about Guns. No direct link to the post, but hop over there and you’ll see a certain rubber-duck banner that he appropriated without permission. If you read it its about as coherent as a typical Jadegold rant. Its also as out-of-the-blue as I don’t really read his site anymore because after so many instances of copyright infringement, and general cribbing without attribution, I assumed he was avoiding my site so I stopped my daily scan for stolen goods, and certainly none of you are interested in blog drama.

Still what amused me was what a link from The Truth About Guns looks like.

I run a fairly humble blog here. I also don’t get any ad revenue, so my hits are what they are. Frankly I’m glad to see as many regular readers I have here, and I’m happy when far more prolific bloggers swing by to comment, or link to one of my posts. Still let’s do a little dissect. The peak to the Left is the BACKSIDE of an link from Say Uncle. (You can see the full Monty here…note the spikes this month are either links from Uncle or Tam…).

Now first I’m not going belittle Mr. Farago in his web-building skills. As many of you know his blog sprang fully-formed into the world and was getting big readership from day one. Part of this was because of his Car Site (Which was wrought with many of the same problems his gun site is) and SEO.

It made a big splash, but there are a lot of things missing that come from starting at the bottom and working up like all the great bloggers have done. His site has been running for only a year, and yet most of the readers I talk to have only been following for a few months (and haven’t read long enugh to read his famous contradictory posts say on Open Carry, Mandatory training, or Constitutional Carry, Mandatory Safe Storage Laws), and of course there’s a REASON why Mr. Farago has such a reputation as a plagiarist and a hack.

Unlike in the past where he frequently would crib articles and either not link, or bury the link, this post offers a good solid link to my site. So why a man who brags about the popularity of his site and his massive staff of authors can’t even double my site hits for a day? Also I suspect the massive amounts of “Page Views” are people checking back to look for a scrap.

While Farago and his Co-Blogger admitted criminal Mikeb302000 have given me a lot more credit than due on the so-called Blacklist (BTW North took what was a failed experiment and made it into something amazing! hats off, Brother!) I suspect this big downturn happened after word got out that he was stealing from Tam and Say Uncle, and then lying despite the evidence before him. (BTW when I met Mr. Farago in Pittsburgh I commented on his famous flip-flopping on the gun issues. His answer “I don’t Remember.” Seriously. I can remember being anti-gun, anti-carry, and for mandatory training DECADES ago, and Robert Farago can’t remember his political position last year? That’s a Barney Frank level of lying right there!)

I’m glad the truth is getting out. As for my feelings on Mr. Farago and his organization: I’m not a fan of it. My only wishes for him is that the truth be known.

**Update** THIS is how it REALLY looks. Of the last 100 Visits 76 have come from this Say Uncle post 17 are various people entering the direct URL, and TWO are leftover from Mr. Farago’s little flame. That’s what READERSHIP looks like.

“Gun Death” Suicide

Count the Factors.

A 50-year-old Battle Ground man fatally stabbed himself in front of Clark County Sheriff’s deputies during a restraining order violation call.

People who use the metric “Gun Death” often use suicide numbers as a reason to ban guns. Like people can’t commit suicide other ways. Also those who use “Gun Death” somehow overlook the use of guns as defensive weapons…like say if the person who you put a restraining order against decides to walk right through it carrying a knife.

Those who use the term “Gun Death” want nothing but the worst for us all.

Four More Years

Well this is ugly.

n a conference call this morning, Herman Cain told his senior staff that he is “reassessing” whether to remain in the race. He will make his final decision “over the next several days.”

I’m just going to read this as he’s dropping out of the race and that’s the end of it. I must say, Scott Brown’s turn to the RINO saved me from losing money donating to Cain (didn’t help that Fred Thompson sank without a ripple in 2008).

Still at this point I’m looking at a line-up of RINOs, Anti-Freedom Big-Government Republicans, and Ron Paul who has some good ideas, but ZERO idea how to implement them…and some horrible ideas like his Foreign policy ideas.

This tells me the nation is simply not READY for things to get better. Thankfully our current President is anything but a tyrant. He’s a lay-about with little interest in Politics outside of getting his face on TV. He has drafted no laws since he took office, he’s simply a figurehead for the Democrats in power…who are losing power.

Couple that with what may happen if Gingrich, or Romney, or Perry take office. They may draft bills. Bills on the line of Assault Weapons Bans, Cap-and=Trade, or the Patriot Act. They may draft bills, and have partisan support for them.

Thanks, I’ll stick with Obama if that’s the choice you’re giving me. I’ll vote for him next November and hang my head in shame.

Maybe four more years will wake a few people up.

On 9x19mm

I mentioned to Christina last night at the range that 9x19mm is the best self-defense cartridge there is.

Kinda interesting coming from me, given that I don’t actually OWN any guns in 9x19mm. My bread-and-butter is .45 ACP, in my 1911, and my PM45. Why .45? Well it works, and I’m already invested in the cartridge with guns, ammo, magazines, and reloading supplies. Also I have a preference to M1911 pistols, which were designed around .45 ACP, and therefore shoot them the best.

Still the Golden Age of the 9×19 vs .45 war (and the coup that was .40 S&W) seemed to be around WWII and after when ammo was all FMJ and the various full-size guns on the market were American .45s, and European 9x19mm guns. Well YEAH, if shooting only ball ammo .45 will do a LOT more damage than the 9mm (I suspect the flat-point often found on .40 S&W ball will have the most stopping power of all), but we’re NOT! I carry hollow point .45s, and anybody who knows what they’re doing carries hollow-point 9x19mm, and once you get there, and assuming we’re using quality ammo, vs. bargain basement hollow-points, really the question of how the shoot is going to go is all about where your shots land.

So that being said Chance is currently discussing dumping his pocket .380 for a pocket 9.

I’m basically simplifying my ammo stores. I may even dump my 45s.

There is something to be said about that (and also the reason why I got a PM45 rather than the PM9 or CM9, or P9 et al) Why get involved in yet another cartridge when I can carry a full-size .45, and a pocket-sized .45 and get by fine?

That being said if you’re starting from square one, 9x19mm is one of the most common pistol rounds on Earth, and there are few gun makers that don’t make a few guns in this cambering. Every ammo maker makes a few options in 9×19 ammo, and every gun shop and sporting goods store will have ammo to buy.

You can also get just about every type of gun on Earth chambered in 9×19, from the great-big Glock 34, to the pocket-sized Kahr PM9, and everything in between. Also when you compare a 9×19 gun with guns in .40 S&W, or .45 ACP, or even revolver cartridges, you get near identical terminal ballistics, in a smaller lighter package…or in a similar package but with MUCH more rounds.

If I had to start all over again and shrug off the Machismo, I might go the way of 9x19mm for all my defensive guns.

Or maybe I just like 1911s too much and would contradict all my advice about 9x19mm and guns with unnecessary safeties, as well as buying more affordable guns.

A Real DGU

Me: I agree.
Azmat: You scare them off?
Me: I didn’t say a word to them.
Azmat: Your gun scare them off.
Me: Perhaps. You should call the police and report this.
Azmat: Yes, I will. You stay and talk to them too?
Me: Sure.

We told them the story, and Azmat showed them the tape.

Officer 1: They were definately going to hit the place. However since no crime was actually committed, the best we can do is look for them and see if we hit anything when we pull them over. You guys did great.
Officer 2 (to me): You should submit this to the NRA armed citizen column. We can corroborate your story.

This is why I’m terribly skeptical that all Defensive Gun Use stories that both appear in crime logs, or news stories are all of them.

Seems that all parties involved think a robbery was foiled simply because the predators realized that they weren’t the only guys with guns and decided that today was not the day for them to do evil.

No expressed violence, no crime committed, and no police report. Its not a “sexy” news story either, but if he hadn’t shown up when he did, and he wasn’t open carrying, a serious crime may have happened, and a deadly one at that! Also there were no dead bodies, or even injuries (which was one of the major flaws in the Anti’s pet that is the Kellerman study)

Carry your damn gun, you just might need it, and it just might save somebody’s life.
